swoosh's build thread....the HIGH PROTEIN DIET !!! (Updated Pics-Page 74-7/12/15)
Inaccurate has been a great mentor for me and has had me thinking, "why am I carrying around soooo much junk that I do not use"....finally I decided to pick and choose and drop all the weight which am not using....
Why High Protein Diet you ask?
Well I will try NOT to lose any luxury function of the car, I like to enjoy the music and the AC and like to mod my car with the heavy Aspec lip, roof spoiler....so all that stays, hence the car looks good, at the same drive drives like no other
Update 1: Already done mods and weighing her - Page 1"
Update 2: Gutted Trunk and Rear Seats - Page 3"
Update 3: Gutted Interior + Racing Seats + 2012 Manifold and TB - Page 18
GOALS
The most important thing: GOAL !!! without em, there is no point....so here are my goals....
By Spring 2012:
1> Get to 300WHP
2> Drop down ~250-300 lbs off the car
By Spring 2013:
1> Get to 350WHP
2> Drop down another 150-200lbs of the car....
So I will be ~350WHP mark and 500lbs lighter....this should make an interesting combination for a NA engine....i doubt this has been done before....
CURRENT SITUATION:
So now we know the goals, now you gotta know where you are....
Sitting @ 3760lbs (See below for more description)
Sitting @ 270-ish whp (am totally assuming this number, dyno coming soon)
Performance mods on the car:
AEM CAI
Oversized AEM filter
Insulated Air Intake all the way
Bored Throttle body (71.xx/68.xx)
Bored Moore's Over sized Throttle Body Spacer
Bored P2R Throttle Body Thermal Gaskets
Ported and Polish Intake Manifold
Removed Butterfly from the Manifold
Ported and Polished MDX Spacer
Ported and Polished Intake Runners
Ported P2R Intake Manifold Thermal Gaskets
RV6 V2 PCD's ceramic coated inside out
Custom True Dual Exhaust
UR Crank Stock Size Crank Pulley
Innovative Engine mounts
MODUS OPERANDI
Since Inaccurate has documented his DIET with all the weights sooooo well, I will be going by his listed weights....Personally am tooo careless and will miss many things hence wanted to follow his list....You can find his latest list here:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=946
So well, lets get to it....
I went through a weigh station and the weight of the car with me in it was 3760 lbs....Note: This was with me in it, a full tank of gas, filled up windshield water reservoir.....
Here are some weights:
1> I weigh, 180lbs with a standard deviation of 1 pound.
I have done some mods like Inaccurate has which are:
2> RV6 Precat delete (incl race pipe & misc brackets) - 14lbs
3> CAI - 8 lbs
4> Front damper - 7.5 lbs
5> UR crank pulley - 7 lbs
6> Engine bay panels - 6 lbs
7> Innovative Engine Mounts - 2.5 lbs
8> Hood Insulation - 1.8 lbs
If you total all the weight loss mods done (which were done for some other purpose entirely ) we get: 46.8 lbs
I weigh: 180 lbs
Weight of the bare car (if these mods were not done) aka starting point:
3760 - 180 + 46.8
We get a starting point as: 3626.8 lbs. The reason am eliminating my weight is because i do not think i want to drop any of my weight, I worked out hard to get here LOL....
Time to redefine the goals, doncha think ?
By Spring 2012:
1> Get to 300WHP
2> Drop between 3376.8 lbs and 3326.8 lbs
By Spring 2013:
1> Get to 350WHP
2> Drop down to ~3100 lbs
REVEAL THEM DAMN SECRETS
So how are we gonna get there ??? Will tell you my plan for this Spring:
I want more ponies:
I got the JnR ECU, which should be coming my way in the next few week....I am hoping it will help me get to 300....
FAT TIRE
With the weight loss here is my plan:
1> Reduce fuel to only 3 gallons at a time
2> Reduce windshield water fluid down to 1 pint
3> I barely use the rear seat, its in mint condition !!! time to go !!!
4> Empty the darn trunk, EVERYTHING GOES !!!
5> Lightweight battery....
6> Still debating on the floor mats/all season mats....if they go, the carpet goes....of maybe a new lightweight non-OEM setup ??? we will see.....
If I am able to do this, I will have lost 250 pounds from my "starting point"
To get the starting point for the engine (HP), i will be going to a dyno soon....

Here is the weight loss itemized deduction (taken from Inacurate's list)
STARTING POINT = 3626.8 LBS
WEIGHT LOSS
14.0 RV6 Precat delete
8.0 CAI
7.5 Front damper
7.0 UR crank pulley
6.0 Engine bay panels
2.5 Innovative Engine Mounts
1.8 Hood Insulation
------------------------------------------------------------
46.8 Lbs TOTAL
ESTIMATED DYNAMIC WEIGHT REDUCTION
----------------------------------------------
105 Dynamic weight loss from UR Pulley
---------------------------------------------
105 Lbs DYNAMIC TOTAL
ESTIMATED WEIGHT
------------------------------------
3626.8 - 46.8 = 3580 Lbs. Static
3626.8 - 105.0 = 3521.8 Lbs. Dynamic

Nice outline! This will be fun to watch.
Who will be tuning the JnR ecu since you're in KCMO? I posted a thread on KCSR and was unable to find anyone in the area who is able to tune the Megasquirt system.
Also, there was some discussion on V.6.p.com about the MDX spacer on the Accord J30 and a couple dynos that showed a loss of top-end HP, but a gain of low-end TQ while using the spacer...what's your opinion?

They are coming LOL....in the plan....i spend this years "car budget" waiting for my tax returns now LOL
Thanks gwiffer....
I am trying to see if Andy (gerzand) can help me with the tune....he is in Ohio but lets see if we can figure something out
About the MDX spacer....i do agree....I have the MDX spacer pnp-ed to match the manifold and runners (2mm per hole bigger, each hole is ~46.xx mm in diameter)....i do experience some high end power missing....and noticeable power missing....
the only reason i still have it coz i might get cams in the near future and want to see how it will be with the cams....if it helps overall am gonna keep it, else toss it and add to the weight loss
i was getting a good deal on that but well didnt go thro....but yeah thinking about the CF hood or going ghetto on the hood LOL....
in all seriousness i would like something like this:
a little....i do feel some vibrations (on the front bumper) which were not there before i removed the damper....these come at idle...it did not affect the drive-ability at all....
Thanks bro....yeah anything to go quicker

I was thinking about this....had a conversation with Andy on the same topic....tooo much air is bad remember LOL....the only plus side is that its wayy lighter....
Also on the cams, am thinking of going all the way with the Bisi Stage 2....yeah it will be very aggressive but i guess my only way to get to 350....The type S cams will provide gains but not as much....
I will be upgrading to titanium springs and retainers...these will be light weight (now weight difference might not be too much but) dynamic weight loss will be a lot....

I have Ty...thought about em, but recently i spend more than a grand on tires and powder coating....will be running the tires down and getting some new rims tires....
my setup is sitting at 50 lbs (per rim/tire combo) and even if i get the traklites (14lbs) and tires (~26-27 lbs)....i will be saving only 40 lbs....this will come in handy in the later stages....
Trying to bro...hahaha....thanks man
hahaha....
well the rear seats are listed at 36 and the seatbelts for the rear seat at 8.5...totaling 44.5 lbs....and the front damper at 7.5 lbs....total of 52 lbs
Thanks bro

Once those tires need to be replaced, I can totally see your car sitting on some RPF1s with beefy tires

Ravi....i agree with you bro....just when i was down in Austin with my trunk full of my stuff, i could feel the additional 80 odd pounds slowing my down...acceleration was gone, so was gas mileage....

I like your way of thinking swoosh. get rid of the weight, add some beefy cams, and enjoy some all-motor goodness!
if/when you get the Bisi cams, I hope you write a thorough review on them. boost is pretty fun, but there's something about an all-motor Honda powerplant that gets my blood pumping.
as far as the wheels, you can't go wrong with some RPF-1's. they're probably one of my favorites when it comes to rims that are track and weight-conscious related.
good luck, and I'm excited to see how it comes along.

Lightweight wheels made the most noticeable difference in my TL diet. RPF1's are awesome but I was also looking at Kosei K4R. They look great, weigh only 14.8 lbs for the 17x8 and are reasonably priced at 199 per wheel. Check them out on tirerack.com. I have not seen them on a TL yet...

. . . . . . . . .
-------- The TL Diet: Woo Hoo, What a Ride !!! --------
Thank you for appreciating my work and having trust in me. So many people have "rolled their eyes" at my diet (click here) while failing to recognize or appreciating the positive aspects of it. The early years of my TL Diet were truly some dark days filled with mostly ridicule and snickers.
While accepting credit myself, I wish to give credit to those that helped me. I wish to give credit and thanks to the forum moderators for allowing my Diet thread to remain open thru the dark days. A very special thanks to csmeance (Moderator) for cleaning-up my Diet thread and giving much needed protection to the thread.
At one point, I had to plea with moderators (via PM) to please leave my Diet thread unlocked. I reasoned with the moderators that there would come a day, maybe years from then, where Acurazine members would begin to adopt my Diet mods once the value of the car dropped low enough. It is heart-warming to see my vision and hopes come to fruition.
I also wish to thank those Acurazine members that have displayed support of my Diet. Thank you IHC (I Hate Cars) for your open support of my Diet. Especially those members that supported me in the early years (the dark days). It took a lot of heart for those members to openly support me in the dark days among all of the ridicule that was being displayed. A special thanks to member "pohljm" for encouraging me to create my TL Diet thread in the first place.
Ha,ha..... GOOD LUCK WITH THIS ONE
Once it "gets into your blood", there is no cure for the illness. You will live from one "weight loss" fix to the next fix. Diet Junkie. You will begin to lose interest in building-up the motor because you will see that it is MUCH easier to increase the acceleration via weight lose than N/A mods. You will become addicted to the feel of the lightness..... the ease at which the car will quickly accelerate, throwing the car around like a rag doll, and the neck snapping braking with the lightest touch on the brake pedal.
And heaven forbid if you ever become addicted to the "Zero G-force Feeling" (click here). This was my downfall. I fell deeply in love with the Zero-G feeling and became deeply addicted to the feeling. Even to this day, the Zero-G feeling is my life and my passion.
I can see early signs of the illness befalling you ---->
"with my trunk full of my stuff, I could feel the additional 80 odd pounds slowing me down....... acceleration was gone"
But on the bright side of things...... Don't worry buddy. I got your Diet fixes planned out.
Please keep in mind if a person is to become a hardcore Dieter, they need to learn to compromise and sacrifice for the Cause. It ain't about what rims will look pretty. It is all about what is the lightest rim that I can find for a realistic price (not a $2k per rim price tag for a CF rim) that has my correct offset and bolt pattern.
Wilson, What you mean by "only"
When you remove the back seat, the loss will be 54.2 Lbs.
36.0 Rear seat delete
8.5 Seatbelts for rear seat
6.0 Rear seat arm rest
3.7 Rear seat insulation
When referencing my list, you will need to carefully read thru the entire list to pick-out all applicable items. Because my list was created using an evolutionary process, many items are broken down into sub-components. For example with the back seat, I first removed the "Rear seat arm rest" before removing the entire back seat. Thus, the "Rear seat arm rest" became an embedded item in my overall list. Then when I removed the entire rear seat, I did not want to disturb the current list and just added the weight of the seat in it's current state (without the arm rest).
What does "Fat Tire" mean?
The MID's "Miles To Empty" will become your new best friend?
Each day, I perform a check-point to fine-tune my fuel level. Along my daily route, I know where I should be hitting the "O Miles To Empty". Some days I hit it sooner and others days hit it later in my commute. By doing the daily check-point, I stay within about 0.1 gallon of my target fuel level. When I purchase fuel the next morning, I know that I need to get 1/10 gallon more or 1/10 gallon less according to where I hit the "0 Miles To Empty" the evening before.

The "Dynamic weight" is taking into account the benefit derived from the rotational mass reductions. Thus, the "Dynamic weight" is what an oem TL would need to weigh to have the equivalent acceleration and deceleration. And, with everyone's interest in WHP being to determine acceleration abilities, this is why dynamic weight should be used to calculate the equivalent WHP.
To calculate the Dynamic weight, we need to first separate the dynamic item(s) from the static items. This separation is done to prevent "double dipping". As an example, if we are going to be using the dynamic weight equivalent of the pulley, we can Not also claim the static weight of the pulley in the overall calculation (see below).
STEPS TO CALCULATE DYNAMIC WEIGHT
---------------------------------------
1) Remove *all* dynamic items from the static total
46.8 Lbs Total Static - 7.0 Lbs UR crank pulley = 39.8 Total Static Loss (without dynamic items)
2) Add all dynamic items back into the total, but using the dynamic weight equivalent of the items.
39.8 Total Static (without dynamic items) + 105 Dynamic weight loss from UR Pulley = 144.8 Lbs Total Dynamic Loss
3) Subtract the Total Dynamic Loss from the curb weight
3626.8 - 144.8 = 3482.0 Lbs. Dynamic weight
ESTIMATED WEIGHT
------------------------------------
3626.8 - 46.8 = 3580 Lbs. Static
3626.8 - 144.8 = 3482.0 Lbs. Dynamic
After you remove the rear seat, kiss your stereo Good-bye. I pissed in my pants the first time that I drove my car with the rear seat removed. Massively loud road noise coming from the rear wheels. Beyond your imagination.
This gets us back to that conversation about being dedicated to the Cause and making sacrifices. Kiss your stereo good bye. Listening to your radio and talking on the cell phone are Not compatible with a hard-core Diet. You will need to re-adjust your lifestyle to suit the TL Diet. After removing the rear seat, it just gets louder from there as you progress towards the Full-Bore Diet.
I use an iPod. I love it. Spend some money on high quality ear buds and you will soon forget that car radio all together.
PS - Get a mascot. And you can't use my Terminator mascot.

When you remove the back seat, the loss will be 54.2 Lbs.
