what kind of gains and improvments can we see from this? does it work for the j35?

NAiL05 08-15-2009 01:14 PM

Revs higher. Usually they are lighter. Nice if they made a cam for this car too. It would utilize it nicely.

phee 08-15-2009 03:18 PM

should fit all j series engines befre the 4g

car wont rev any higher without rev limit change. but these will prevent valve float and probably increase efficiency in the higher RPM range.

also give you some mis shift protection

Pointless if ur not gonna rev higher, and even if you got a management and remove rev limiter to a higher setting, it goes beyond this...stock setup is good enough for at least 8000 rpm, going higher would require balancing the crank...then you need to change crank & cam timing...and blah blah blah...

U can gert cams made...they're called reground cams...pretty much a stock cam, filled lobes with weld, and ground down to bigger lift and duration, whatever it is u want...this becomes a whole bigger process...port the heads, bigger valves, to take advantage of all this

NAiL05 08-15-2009 05:45 PM

Does anyone reground our cams though? I havent seen a manufacturer yet. I dunno if that is a possibility might need to experiment with some. I wouldnt get these unless I had some sort of cam though honestly.

Opel when you talk stock setup are we talking engine as a whole or components only such as cams etc...But I assume your talking engine as a whole.

I forgot the name of the company...I will look into it again.... But they don't make reground cams for specific cars...they measure ur cam..then weld it, and grind it down to ur specs, such as higher lifting lobes, and longer duration.....slight prob with this is, that over time they start to wear out. (I honestly wouldn't mind it if they lasted 2 years or so)

What I meant, u could rev to 8000 the way the stock head is setup...without needing to change valve springs and such...and if u wanted to go higher, valve springs isn't the only thing ud wanna do, just like I mentioned in the previous post...crank balancing...

But honestly...this can get so costly, when u can just simply lower compression with a set of forged pistons...forged rods...arp head studs and rod cap bolts...and boost the living crap out of the motor..ull make more power than u can handle...

For someone who is into NA setups, then yes, you benefit from these things, rev higher, balance the crank, port ur heads, bigger valves, valve springs, cams, increase compression, etc.

U can however benefit from cams, with boost..and bigger valves...but geeez, just up the boost a little

Woops web cam makes em I think they sound pretty good but you have to tell them what kind of build it is and make sure they send u the grind sheet they dont like to do that. For some reason they like to hang on to that info. I paid 400 a cam so 800 total

phee 08-17-2009 05:33 PM

is that why you have a CEL?

and what do the gains look like
?

ethenol 08-17-2009 05:50 PM

Have CEL for other reasons. Don't care bout numbers but My friend has an Audi v8 S4 and we are dead even when I have cheater slicks on. Without them it's all smoke into third. S4 is modded. He runs mid 13's if that helps. Runs real rough when it is cold and the fucker stinks like an old school muscle car. Not ur everyday driver mod. Tuning is posing a prob still working on that.

phee 08-17-2009 06:03 PM

are you a 6 speed?

ethenol 08-17-2009 06:17 PM

yup

Understandable. Time to research some interchangeable cranks if not just strengthen the OEM one. I am goin the all motor setup. Debating whether or not to make ITB's for this car and gotta figure out how this would all work out lol.

Nice vids ethenol. I wonder if you can adapt an FIC6 to tune it out but we will see.

there was a time when i was into NA, and honestly, its fun...but due to lack of tunable piggybacks at the time, i couldn't do much,.... about the crank, not so much a stronger crank, just need to balance it for the extra reving, say at 9000 rpm lol...
ITBs are deff cool, and i think they're doable. get some bike TBs, delete the IM , fab some longer individual IRers and have them stick out the hood :)

Exactly what I was thinking. I was thinking about just getting some ITB off like a honda cbr600rr and making it work on my old h22 setup in my accord. Never got to it but might try it out for this one. Should be fun. I would try the nsx crank but might have to do some measuring first. My friend has a spare c32 just laying around lol or maybe it was a c30 i need to double check.
