Should I remove my resonator? (New TL owner)
Hey guys, I'm a new TL owner just bought my brothers 04' TL 6spd MT. I love the car to death and I wanna just start off with some basic cheap modifications to begin with that won't cost much or anything. Iv been reading a few of the threads under performance and mods and I noticed some guys have been removing the resonator (not actually sure where it is yet but from what they said its not too difficult) I'm not a gear head, or at least I wouldn't consider myself one. The dilemma I'm having is that, from my understanding the resonator is connected to the intake, and iv got a CAI. My question is because iv got the CAI in my car, will I have to remove it (the CAI) and if not will it still be worth removing?

If you have a cold air intake system then you are already not using the stock intake resonator. When people refer to removing the resonator, that implies they are using the factory air box.

Oh ok well that's usefull lol. I didn't do much research on it I just noticed one guy said he had to pull off his bumper to remove it and something about this intake so, I wasn't too sure what would be entailed. Basically I'm trying to get a more gnarly sound on the car and, is like to eventually get around 400hp in it. It's going to be stepping stones till I get there so, I'm just trying to figure out which direction I should head in

If you have a CAI you have no intake resonator, unless your brother just changed the tube going from the TB to the air box to make it look like a CAI. There's an exhaust resonator but without that it sounds like a Civic with a fart can. You can go to a smaller resonator for more tone if you want. If you just want a little more noise for something gnarly straight pipe the mid muffler for a small amount or straight pipe the rear 2 mufflers for a lot.

400HP is useless in a FWD car. And the amount of money you will need to spend to get there will be huge. My comptech S/C TL made 350 WHP and felt like more then enought. The torque steer is just stupid. If you want to build a car with 400WHP I would look into another platform. JMO

Comptechtl2367's name says it all TheDangler... A comptech supercharger. Here is a link to heeltoeauto's website if you really want to go that route.
Bear in mind you'd have installation charges in addition to the sticker price.
Heeltoe is a vendor here on this site, so I'm sure they will treat you right.

For just bolt ons, pre cat deletes, j pipe, catback, ported intake manifold or 3.7 manifold, ported/larger throttle body, ported heads etc people have gotten near or over 300 whp which is pretty close to 400 at the crank. I wouldn't do much more than that for fear of blowing the trans or other reliability issues, plus massive torque steer. Just my .02 modding this car coming from something with 450HP as a daily driver before this, it's never gonna feel fast unless you boost the hell out of it. I'm sticking mostly to suspension mods so I can drive it like a go kart.
