Rwd TL?

Ok. Let's be realistic. The TL is just a car. Who gives a crap on what kind of engine you put into it. FYI. All the coolest cars already have borrowed drivetrains from other brands. The Audi R8's drivetrain is sourced from a Lamborghini Gallardo. The Lotus Evora's is from a toyota camry. Even volvo and VW share the 5 cylinder engines across many platforms. If you want to put a LS V8 engine in a TL I say go for it. A car is a car and an engine is an engine.
I myself know that I will be keeping my TL forever. And this is something I've always thought about doing. But I am going to wait until my j32 dies on me before I replace it. So in the year 2026, after the car has been long paid off, has 315000 miles, and leaves me stranded on the side of the road, then I'll do this. IMHO I don't think it would be too much trouble. The TL kinda already has a tunnel for the driveshaft. Relocate the gas tank to the trunk to make room for a pumpkin, maybe some extra cutting to make room for a tranny, and woolah. Plus by that time noone will remember the TL. But they will remember how good they look when they see it.
I think the VQ engine from a 370Z could fit longitudinally pretty well. They're compact. Put a supercharger on that and call it a day. Plus the new rev match feature is pretty slick. Or the Ecoboost engine from the new taurus sho. Can you say AWD? Plus a little tuning and you can get 500hp easy. But by 2026 there may be some way better options available.

I know Acura rear wheel drive platform was been canceled as a result of the financial crisis a couple years ago, so hopefully they find a way to restart it

as crazy as this sounds, there's definitely a possibility that it could happen.
ie: the last issue of Honda Tuning I got had an AWD eg civic coupe with a 621whp b20VTEC, using the drivetrain from an old civic wagon. also, there was a 99 coupe with a full s2k swap in it. had to use a driveshaft from a 240.
but hey if there's a will, there's ALWAYS a way, imo.

Just like with anything, anyone can give their opinions and speculate on this and that and etc. This idea has probably been thought about by MANY people. The bottom line is MUCH RESPECT to the one who accomplishes the FIRST RWD TL!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure it will be MINT!!!!

That's what I meant when I said that people will be pleasantly suprised to see a 3G TL on the road 15 years from now. Because they are the sexiest gen TL ever made.
Then put a V8 in it and do a nice smokey rwd burnout and a stoplight and people will be like, "FUCK!! What the hell is that? A TL?!?!?"

great concept. i personally cant fathom the idea of spending that much on a TL when it would be cheaper to get an M3 lol. but everyone is entitled to their own opinions so if its what you really want to do OP, then go for it
i hope its successful because that would be a very unique car lol

I would rather have a rwd tl then an m3. Its just different
. I love my TL, rwd is the way they should have been sold. There are lots of cars that are faster than the TL and have better handling but in my opinion, the 3rd gen TL is one of the most beautiful 4 door cars ive ever seen, why not make it rwd to play with the big boys?

3rd gen TL is the sexiest, sharpest looking car on the road with a style that seems to be timeless.
it suuuuuuuucks that honda loves FWD because this car in a RWD or AWD platform would be the best thing on the road in my opinion.

you guys may hate me for this but I wanna revive this thread. Every single bit of this thread makes it a great one. There's funny moments, casual haha moments, even some straight up in your face moments. I wanna hear if the OP actually did the rwd conversion. It's been 6 years since he posted. Either he's blown his engine or trashed it. Any news would be good.

If you're going to the trouble and expense of switching to RWD, might as well do an LS swap while you're at it.
Honestly considering going with an LS swap in my G35 if I can keep a/c. So much more room in the engine bay too.

I always thought about this idea and eventually fantasized about the concept of doing this but keeping the car as stock as possible. Of course it's only a fantasy for me as many others before mentioned that time and money are two huge limiting factors. But the idea started off with a 2008 TL-S with a RDX drive train mated to the stock power plant.
Then I started to run off on tangents and thought about integrating the stock forced induction system from the same RDX into the TL. That was years ago. Now, Honda has given birth to a V6 turbocharged engine and their AWD platform has grown so it's gotten the dream a little bit more closer to life but again the time and money plus finding someone crazy enough to do this for you if not doing it yourself. It'll probably set the wallet back around $30,000 just to follow the criteria without considering the overhead on this kind of project.
An LS swap TL-S would still be impressive though, and might not dig into the wallet as deep.

Umm... Ok...
Ironically, my name is Wes, and I am an uncle to my bother, Kevin's children... I've been to Irving, TX a few times, and Drew Brees is the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, where I grew up... LOL!!!
