I know you have only had this done almost a week, but did you notice it right away the next morning or is it just something that starting happening a day or two ago.

Maybe the hanger or the resonator might be slightly touching part of the underbody panel or a heat shield, and the reason it might be going away is because the muffler heats and up and the hangers (rubber) become a bit looser giving you just enough of a gap between the two points. Either way, I dont have a rattling sound. Get it checked out.

To tell you the truth I noticed it 2 days afterward. This is probably because when I do start the car my music is normally on a high volume and I didn't notice it till then. Any ideas? I'm not sure if they put one of these hanger things on that I keep hearing about. Would that correct this buzzing/humming noise?

I don't have this problem either and I did have a hanger installed on mine. There was one on the mid muffler so I had them put one on the part they welded in.

I might have to slide my ass under there tonight and see if they put one on. I was too interested in the NFL Preseason report on TV to go in there and hoover around them. If not I have a 1 year warranty on their service.

Some say that the mid-muffler delete can be loud to them and i was wondering if i kept the mid-muffler but replace the resonator with a magnaflow one. Will that work out fine?

I think it was either you or someone else already asked that in this thread. I don't think anyone has tried that yet. Why don't you give it a try and find out. The mid-muffler deletes some of the deeper tones from the exhaust, so I don't know if you will get any benefits from just removing the mid.

I tried this already. I did not find that it was enough of a difference, so I went with the additional smaller resonator.

Rhaspy!

So my wife says she wanted to take the car out for some groceries. She drives away and I hear the most unpleasant sound. Rhasp! It didnt sound so bad IN the car, but when your hearing it from the outsidfe it gets worse.

From the threads that I read before, It seems the sound gets louder by the day. Apparently, mine got worse.

So I bought a Maganflow resonator and will put that in this weekend.

BTW, I was the idiot that took out the mid-muffler and the resonator.

I don't mean removing the mid-muffler. I mean keeping the mid and only replacing the resonator with a smaller Magnaflow one

Thats what I was refering to. I think either you asked before or someone else requested info. But no one responded then.

Go out and try it and post back on how it sounds.........

But like I said above to your post "The mid-muffler deletes some of the deeper tones from the exhaust, so I don't know if you will get any benefits from just removing the mid" even if you add the magnaflow, the mid will still be there to remove the tones it creates.

i dont think that will make much of a difference. give it a try but be prepared to make other exhaust plans as well

But do you think it will increase back pressure and reduce performance?

Swapping either/both of those components will most likely do NOTHING to performance. They are straight through in stock form, and straight through in aftermarket form. Just go get it done, you wont regret it.

Just had this done yesterday...mid-muffler delete and Magnaflow 10416. Sound is JUST RIGHT. Like everyone else has said, it sounds identical to a G35. I'd put it somewhere between the coupe and sedan as far as loudness. Cruising in 5th or 6th on the highway you cannot tell any difference from stock but if you drop it down a few gears and drop the hammer to pass you will definitely get some attention. Bottom line, I LOVE it.

If you're in Pittsburgh and want to get this done head over to Midas on McKnight Road. There's a guy there who works everyday except Friday who does really nice work. They don't stock stainless pipe so he used aluminized but pretty much guaranteed it would be rusted in 3 years. He kept the lenght of pipe he used to a minimum and suggested in a few years that I pick up a piece of stainless and keep it handy so they can do a quick swap when the aluminized rusts out. For anyone in the Northeast I suggest picking up a stainless pipe and taking it with you the first time. Live and learn on my part as I didn't really think about that.

I saw something in one of the earlier pages about removing the mid-muff and using 2.5" piping all the way back. Did that person do this?
This is kind of a basic question but what is the diameter of the stock piping? 2"? Will increasing the diameter to 2.5" make that big of a difference?
Also, I live in New England...are stainless pipes that much better?
Sorry for the string of questions but I am about to have the mid muff removed this Thurs of this week and want to call the shop soon if I want to make any other adjustments.

Removing the resonator and mid-muffler completely and replacing it with the straight pipe will get you rasp.

Remove the mid-muffler, and replace the resonator with a magnaflow and you will get heaven. I believe the stock pipping size is 2.25, so as long as you replace it with a pipe in similar diameter you should be fine. Anything too big/small might cause unwanted turbulence in the pipping.

Update on my experiences. First I was in line to pay exiting a parking garage tonight and noticed two teenage kids in a vert mustang staring over at the car. I get up next to them and the one yells over, that thing sounds awesome....I never heard a TL sound like that. Nice to hear that it sounds good outside the car as well.

On the way home I was next to an 06 G35 coupe for about 2 miles with a bunch of red lights. The sound really is identical taking off through about 3000rpm then the TL seems to mellow out while the G35 is still pretty aggressive to the point where it starts to drone. I'm really glad this setup does not do that. As far as loudness, the TL setup is just slightly quieter than the stock G35 coupe. Overall I think both sound great but this setup is more refined which fits perfectly into the TL's character.

wow...you guys freakin rock! thanks for pioneering this project. before i bought my TL, i was heavily considering the g35 coupe because of the freakin sound! but wow, the TL with a g35ish sound...nothing beats that! so anyways, i went to performancepedder.com and looked it up and they don't have it. but i went on ebay and performancepeddler sells them on ebay...wierd. anywhoo...i'm buying mine right now. 55.31 and free shipping. i'm gonna submit 50 flat and see if he bites. thanks again...i'll update once i get that stuff done.

Quick question. Right now all I did was replace mid-muffler with a straight pipe. I like the sound, but I'm sure I'll like it even better with the Magnaflow resonator. Now when I'm doing about 80 in sixth gear and the RPMs are at about 2700 I hear a little too much engine noise than I'd like to hear in this car. I really want to do the magnaflow mod, but my question is how much louder would it be at 2500 through 3000 RPMs? Does anyone feel that it's too loud for cruising?

In that case you probably shouldnt do the magnaflow resonator. It will increase your engine noise, but not really by much. I could barely tell a difference.

I removed my resonator and replaced it with a straightpipe, and removed the midpipe and replaced that with magnaflows.

My question is this: I want a deeper noise and a sound more similar to the G35. Has anyone replaced the 2 mufflers in the rear with something else (like magnaflows)??? Maybe that will give the sound I'm looking for?

I replaced my resonator with the Magnaflow 27", and replaced the mid muffler with straight pipe. I replaced the 2 rear mufflers with Magnaflows, and it idles with a rumble, sounds pretty aggressive from 2000-3000, but the best sound is around 2500. There is none of the obnoxious drone that most people have with the shorter resonator. Let's put it this way- my wife likes the sound of the car.
