hey I was wondering would it be better if I simply remove the mid muffler, or if I replace them with the ones from magnaflow? Im almost certain that I'll replace the resonator with the 14" magnaflow's, however Im not really sure what to do about the mid mufflers.

Although my question might be a re-post, but hey, Im too lazy to navigate through the 9 pages of text to find out if someone else has already asked this b4, so can anyone be kind enough to answer/reanswer for me.

Another thing, should I decide to replace my mufflers with the ones from magnaflow, which type should I get? can anyone point out from the type from Hottexhaust.

Finally, Im also considering to replace my current, squarish muffler tips with the one from MOMO to give my car the quad exhaust look, is this even possible?

Sorry if I might've accidentally asked utterly silly questions, heck, Im not the brightest when it comes to cars, but I certainly want my TL to look stylish

From hotexhaust,

Product Name: 14" Body, 2-1/2" Round Resonator ProductID=10416

This is what you need.

Remove both resonator, and mid muffler, and replace resonator with magnaflow, and mid-muffler with straight pipe.

Those momo tips do look nice, something I was looking for. I might give that a try. Have you found anything else similar to the momo's?

Been looking around and well its not like I didnt find anything, I found out that both magnaflow and borla also have their own products. However so far momo seems to be leading the race between the three; could be my taste, but I find momo's design to be the most exquisite of all.

Anyone else here ever given a thought of giving your TL the quad exhaust and has any other piece of useful info to share?

And btw, will removing the mid mufflers affect the car's perfomance or anything else? There's got to be the downside of removing them or else they wouldnt even be there in the first place.

I've thought about running twin tips before. It will bet tricky finding ones that will fit into the cutouts well enough to look good. I've been throwing around the idea of making a set but I'm probably not going to have the time to do that. ali_enterprisees was going to look into this about a year ago but then he went to iraq.

Can you remove that Momo emblem in the middle of the exhaust that connects them? Also, whats the diameter of the tips?

Do I need to buy two of those 1/2" round resonators?? And one 14" body?? What do I need to take to the installer, and what do I tell them exactly??

^-no, probably not. i had both "resonators" in for a while, sounded good...then just took one of them out and it sounded a little deeper. having another magnaflow on there bring it down just a bit. both sound great however

yeah i bet that would be very raspy. removing either the resonator or the mid muffler would give it a better tone though, and a pleasant one at that

no...and take out the 3rd muffler, otherwise i dont think you will notice much of a tonal difference. i think Dave just means the car will sound bad with both the resonator and mid-muffler out

The 'downside' of removing the mid muffler is that the car will no longer be as quiet, it will be louder. Manufacturers want their entry level luxo cars to sound quiet, refined kinda. Enthusiasts want their entry level luxury sedan to sound and perform like a ferarri.

I had mine done for fathers day. My fiance ordered the mufflers(magnaflow #14632) and took it to a performance shop for the install while I was out golfing. I had already written up instructions for the install previously for her. They left the stock resonator on and replaced the mid-muffler with straight 2.5 and ran 2.5 to the Y and then used 2.25 to the new mufflers, keeping the stock tips. Sounds awesome! Not too loud, not too soft. Im really happy with the way it turned out. =)

So I just got my Magnaflow 14" Resonator in today. I'm gonna go to a muffler shop tomorrow and have them remove the mid pipe and replace it w/ a straight pipe, then remove the stock resonator and replace that with the magnaflow. I'll post some before and after clips, but it'll be crappy at best (I'm going to use my phone to video record).

That's true...
I actually look forward to a little engine rumble so i can hear/feel when to shift. The engine is so smooth and quiet, I have to watch he RPM gauge. I look down every once in a while and I'm cruising at 70 mph in 4th... burning at 4500+ rpm.

This isnt necessarily a reply to you but rather advice for those who are worried/sensative to an increase in noise (for long trips, say). If you want this done, have the muffler shop put flanges on the exhaust pipe and resonator. That way if you are going on a long road trip and dont want additional cabin noise, you can just bolt the resonator back onto the car and enjoy the increased exhaust note just around town/normal driving.

So I got it done yesterday...I removed the mid resonator and replaced that with an aluminized straight pipe, and I removed the resonator closest to the front of the car and replaced that with a resonator from Magnaflow. It sounds a lot like a G35 between 2,500 and 3,000 RPM. Below 2000RPM, it sounds like stock.

I paid around $50 for the Magnaflow and $95 to the muffler shop. I don't have video clips yet, but I do have before and after pictures of the installation. I'm too lazy to post them up, but I will if there's enough people who are interested in seeing pictures.

I got mine done too. Removed the mid muffler and replaced the resonator with the magnaflow 14". Sounds like a G35 and have absolutely no droning! Very nice!

Going to get some sound clips soon.

Magnaflow is definately the way to go if you are looking for more of a performance sound out of your exhaust. I love how mine sounds now.... BEEFY!

if you are having a hard time finding someone who wants to part with their OEM system you can call up comptech and see if anyone have them their old system. k6biv (a member on this forum) gave his system to comptech and was nice enough to..let me take it from them so i would have an extra one laying around in case i got tired of the magnaflows.

Thumbs up Removed mid muffler today

Hey guys. Well based on you advice, I had a shop swap out the mid muffler for a piece of straight pipe. Cost me $30 bucks and I have to say it really is the way the car should be from the factory. Very subtle but exactly what the car needed. No drown, no rasp. Now it sounds like an engine instead of just a rush of air without sound. Resonator is still in.

i had the mod dont today; mid muffler removed, replaced w/ straight pipe and resonator replaced w/ 14" magnaflow. sounds good, wish it were just a tad bit louder. i've noticed one problem though, as i was driving home, it started to smell like something was burning. dunno if it was a problem w/ the welds. any ideas?

Probably just the new resonator breaking in, should be normal. Give it about a week and if you hear any un-normal sounds, or rasp, it might be the welds or the install.

Ok so does the mid muffler delete sound more like the G35 coupe or the G35 sedan? The coupe is louder than the seden. So which one?
