I'm considering this little mod as I'd like a more aggressive sound, but I don't want any raspiness in the sound. Is it louder at freeway cruising speeds? I don't want much of a drone there, either. I'm hoping for a deeper sound, but with some bite under heavy acceleration. Is this the result of this mod?

yeah I have an AEM intake.. i don't think it drowns out the exhaust because the exhaust note dies off after 4k rpm, and thats when the intake becomes loud. I might be wrong though because I haven't heard a stock TL with a deleted mid muffler so can't answer you on that one...

Hrm..are you satisfied with the loudness? Maybe the exhaust, not the engine, will be a bit louder if I get an intake? I still feel its a little quiet, dont you?

good info. I did this to my S2000 (it only had the resonator, then the two mufflers) and the sound was very nice. A slight rasp, but definitely noticeable over a stock exhaust.
TL is up next....maybe tomorrow if I have time!

If the difference is as subtle as it seems to be, I wonder why Acura bothered spending the extra money on the middle muffler. I am getting quite tempted to do this, once I find the time.

just did it today! So far I love it. One of the guys I work with noticed right away. He said at very low end RPM's from outside it sounds a bit more bassy, then into a smooth sounding G35 or 350Z sound, then back to a stock volume, but deeper sound.
The guy at the exhaust shop did an amazing job, even welded a hanger on there to keep the exhaust from moving around. It was a bit more than what I expected to pay, but oh well! If I didnt get any performance gain, it sounds better to me, and I shed some dead weight of an already heavy enough car.....

it was around $55 with tax and all.... I have taken all my cars there for stuff like that, so I trust them and dont mind paying a bit more. The S2000 i took to a small corner shop, $35 for a resonator-ectomy and I had to go back 3 times till he got all the welds right and there were no holes.

In a mild defense for the shop, its much more difficult on the s2000. I remember a bunch of s2000 guys came in once to get the resonator removed and the first two that i did were a pain in the ass. 3x is excessive though, so good call on going to another shop.

After looking at this picture I'd like to know if you have a strange exhaust note now. From where the original pipe cups the new welded pipe you will have a lip on the inside which will cause exhaust flow turbulence. I had the muffler shop expand the end of the welded pipe to cup the existing pipe but slip inside on the outlet end.
Users planning on this mod, please take into consideration.
Ask to have the inlet end of the new pipe to be expanded to "cup" the old pipe that had entered the mid-muffler. Have the other end of the new pipe slip inside the tail section exhaust pipe.

not that there is only one right way, but that is how i would have expected the shop to do it...expand the ends to fit over.

i just got this mod done and its a real nice sound but the sound dies off at 4000rpm. and sometimes its louder sometimes its not.
the sound is amazing at 2500-3000 rpm.
my muffler shop dude said why dont i swipe the mufflers wit resonators that kinda sounds weird? when i told him i want a deep growling noise similiar to the infinitis he suggested the resonators.
anyone know if it will sound good? i thought resonators cut fown sound??
remove the mid muffler now if u want a nice cheap mod the mid muffler weights like 20 pounds. if u need a good shop in queens ny pm me i know a good shop for 40 beans flat

nice....I'll have to see if he would redo it for me at a small fee....otherwise, I'm not too worried. It sounds great, and no one sees it. Im sure its still flowing better than it was with the mid-muffler there!

Just ordered my exhaust from John @ Hottexhaust. Great Customer service! I like everyone else ordered the 14362 mufflers and he suggested the 12640 resonator. He said that this resonator gets rid of the drone. A little more expensive, but the wife would be upset if there was drone. Should be to me next Thursday, and in the exhaust shop next Saturday for mid muffler removal and install of Magnaflow.

Sound. I love it. I think this is the way the TL should have come stock. Similar note to a G35, but a lot more refined and subtle. Fits the TL personality perfectly, compared to the stock exhausts that emit no sound what so ever. The tone is similar to that as the G35, or the Fx, but much smoother and quieter. There is no drone at highway speeds, no rasp, no rice sound, and no rattles.
If your looking to keep the car stock looking, but you feel the stock exhaust is just TOO quiet, and want something a tad bit louder but not something where the wife, girlfriend, neighbors would instantly notice, this is for you!

My resonator part number is 10436. The 14" is 10416, and the 18" resonator is 10426.

I ordered the 10416 magnaflow resonator. I have my mid-muffler deleted already and it sounds great, but I wanted a bit more volume. So now I'm waiting for the shorted 14 inch resonator to come in and I will get that installed and let you guys know how much of a difference it makes. Wish me luck1

probably but if you kept the stock mufflers it wouldnt be fun to go from 2.5" down to the oem muffler inlet.

I was thinking the same thing, 2.5" the rest of the way back. I'd like to find out how it sounds. I'll see if I can make some time to have it done. Maybe I'll have another sound clip up by wednesday of the 2.5" rear section.

So I just received my 14" magnaflow resonator. I had the mid-muffler removed and retained the stock pipping for everything else. Now this will repalce the stock resonator, which i believe is 22". It will go on tomorrow, hopefully it will sound just perfect, and please dont give me any rasp!! *Cross fingers!*

Well, I got it done. I dont have a before clip, but I can tell you that the before sound is very subtle. Having the shorter resonator helped lower the tone down a little bit and make that "roar" a bit more noticeable. Sounds very similar to the G35, but still not as loud. In my opinion its perfect! Love the way it sounds in the tunnel, or under a bridge. I would highly recommend this if you have done the mid-muffler delete and want a BIt more volume. This is the perfect in-between. No drone either.
