Happy march!
Alex got it right, ive been DYING to drive the car since putting it away. This is my first winter with it garaged, but ive been working like a mad man on it. Many surprises to come this spring (and not just performance mods).
Ive done some PnP work for a few friends and local folks this winter and have gotten nothing but compliments but regrettably there are still no concrete dyno numbers. Perhaps this will change this spring....
But I will say that everyone has loved their TL more who had the supporting mods to take advantage of the PnP work. Sure, you may see gains with "just a catback" or "just an Intake", but pair a bored throttle body, jpipe, precats deletes, lightweight crank pulley with a PnP'd Manifold and Runners and you'll be plenty surprised. This isnt the first mod you should be doing to a stock car, but once you've made the investment in other parts its beyond worth the investment IMO.

I'm just trying to see the dyno results before I really look into something. I'm young and don't have a ton of money so I need to see the proof beforeI invest a ton of money into a set of mods. Especially if I can't do it myself. If you don't install precat deletes will all these PnP'ed parts will it make the performance suffer?

^^^ lol no....
these are fairly cheap (I have an extra set of runners + manifold coming up for sale ) Also just by installing them you will see good amount of gains....if you pair em with exhaust and intake components....you will see huge gains.....that's what Gerz meant, i reckon...

From my "butt dyno" experiences driving 3G and 4G's TL's with PnP work, that would seem in-line with an otherwise mostly stock TL. More details please! What other mods did he have to support the increased CFM? LINKS!!!

Too bad you don't live any closer Andy! (I live in Windsor, across the border from Detroit MI)
My school has a dyno and we get free pulls. We even have an engine dyno =p

i have an auto too. i think its still worth it. down the line there is a lot of things you g=can do to make this car faster even with an auto tranny. i also thought like you first and told myself i didnt want to mod it because it wasnt worth it but there are a bunch of guys out here with really fast auto cars. its up to you. do you think you are gonna keep your car or not. i kept all my stock parts so if i ever decide to buy a manual or even a type s all my stuff will simply be swapped out to one. i think i will get a type s later on when they really go down in price. so far all my mods should work just fine on one.

btw when i swapped my 2g to a manual, i gained 40hp and 40ft lbs of torque to the wheels across the board, so it does make a huge difference in the tranny selection

but it is your main limiting factor as far as how much power you can put down on a regular basis, and still having it be reliable (which with keeping the motor N/A it should be able to handle it without too many issues [it might have some issues if a stroker motor is put in, but then you are starting to put down some really good power then though)

yup that is true i never said the 6mt didnt make more power i know it does but i think its still worth modding my 5at. like i said if i really get tired of it i can get a manual type s later when price goes lower and i will at least have cai, v3 j-pipe, light pulley, and cat-back right off the bat to put on it. but if i do this mani p n p i dont think it will fit on a type s right?

yes the mani wont fit a type -s but you can always sell it on BM and buy another one for your type - s ....
also...the auto does have limiting factors but these mods to make it a hella outta faster than stock auto....

Right now I have the V3 JPipe, CAI, and mid muffler/resonator delete. My deposit has already been made for the V3 PCDs so when they come in I'll throw those on. Should I get a cat back next or pnp my manifold/runners?
#191
I'm gunna defintetly pick up a catback asap. I'm still deciding between the pulley and a lightened flywheel. My clutch slips a little, so when I do get a clutch if my flywheel has heat spots all over I might pick up a lightened flywheel as well.

so basically just plan on getting a new flywheel anyways; and chip in any extra you might need to get a light weight one

I pulled on the short run since i was already down shifted he probably wasn't using sports shift, and the car kept going in a higher gear instead maybe?

All motor
definitely honked to 3 he knew what it was. Also had a 75 shot on board but never hit it. My car was on a different set up back then.
