Official TURBO KIT DEPOSIT THREAD

Quite honestly, the bottom end is the limiting factor on both engines. Making the power isn't the issue. Unless the type S has a stronger bottom end (which it may), the hp will likely be limited to the same number. What you will notice with the type S over the base is quicker spool and slightly better low end.
Hey! Just realized it's you. It was nice talking to you at the meet. I'm a little slow tonight.

Sorry pissed prob wasnt the best word choice. Disappointing it will be to me and i totally agree on the fab and tune process is hard work. I wouldnt know were to begin. I was just hoping to pay a few grand and enjoy the fruits of the hard work being put in just like the base model owners. Besides if it really is only the ecu thats different i wouldnt see the task to be to much more than whats already been accomplished. This is all coming from a complete beginner in the car mod. game so be easy on me please.

Both motors are the same. Type S with a longer crank resulting in .3 litters over base, and hollow cams.
Tranny syncs have been beefed up a bit in the Type S, since the early base TL had probs stripping syncros, mostly 2nd gear. Other than that, if you can make 500 hp on stock Type S internals, you can on a Base..difference is, base might need an extra PSI to match the additional power of the Types S NA.... If type S holds 10 psi, base might need 11.5 psi...but that additional pressure might be risky for the pistons especially, and not the peak power itself.. Note that, these numbers I'm only using as an example, they don't stand for any limits.
I'd recommend tranny cooler on autos regardless of ur boost levels...even if NA
And I hear this a lot...about Type S fitments... Maybe Pass should answer this, but I don't think that's the issue. Its rather the ECU.

i couldnt agree more.... if i still had my type-s i would have DEFINITELY been all over this... this kit will definitely be more efficient on the type-s... the longer crank and larger displacement, will bring the low end in ALOT more that then 3.2L and allow for slightly less boost...
the beefed up tranny is VERY noticeable going from the 3.2L -> 3.5L... my type-s withheld alot of abuse... would still also definitely add a tranny cooler
stiffer engine mounts are a pretty wise investment on this setup... the 5AT guys will have some intense wheel hop/tq steer... those mounts work wonders
All that together, with the proper ECU tuning.. the Type-s will probably produce 40/50 hp/tq more over the base TL with similar boost levels

Hows the 4G treating you BLACKURA_NY? I was wondering how the 3.7 feels compared to your type S before all the mods

For sure. It would be nice to see some turbo TLs at the meet next time and I'm considering bringing the GN but it would be nice to do it in one of the cooler months since I pulled the AC out of it.

I really wish I could add myself to this list but tax time for me means I owe (self-proprietor / contractor)..
I really hope this kit picks up. Have you tried the application on a 7th gen J32 yet? Looks like there's strong interest on the v6 & accord boards.

I'm really sorry to hear this. With all the talk over the years of how so many would buy a turbo kit if one were offered, only to have everyone back out, it's really disappointing. I really wanted to see this thing work. If I didn't already have a fast car I would find a way to buy this kit.
I'm still on the fence though. I learned my lesson with modding the daily driver. I keep telling myself I'll keep it at 3psi for a little extra kick but in reality I would be running 12psi in a month after install. Who knows, it there's still a spot open in a few months I may sign up.

^ .. Rodney.. I'll help you market this kit if it means it stays alive.. at least time enough for me to find a better job or hit the jackpot playing bingo.. lol.

I remember when I first joined A-zine. A turbo kit was one of my first questions. I'm so glad it's finally happened...to bad I don't have $5,800 to shell out. Guess I just have to wait.

Same here. I may end up buying one even if it doesn't get installed for a year or so. My luck is never this good but I've interviewed for a positon within the same company that pays nearly 45% more. If it happens, I'll definately buy the turbo kit just to support a vendor. Though, with the way things usually work out in my life, instead of getting the new position, I'll probably get laid off from my current one and be on unemployment lol.

100 more hp and it won't cost you an engine in the near future is worth the $1,300 extra.

to make this kit at a 4500 price tag would require an incomplete kit or cheaper parts which would cost more headaches over a period of time as far as perception i dont think we percieved anyone ,but in case we did our sincere apologies..

Rod, i wouldn't let this get to me if i were you....while ppl backed away due to the shock caused by the price, and its understandable to some extent. sometimes things just go beyond reach even when they're the best of the best and you want it badly, but a stumbling block such as money doesnt allow you...it doesnt mean that kits can't be made and wont be sold... the feedback ur getting right now is from this forum alone.... there's plenty of other TL owners out there that dont even know about this yet.... not everyone is on a forum, neither as a member, nor a guest just roaming around reading stuff...bcs, while ive had my car for almost 6 years...i was never here, never a guest, never a member, untill this last june...so you see, there's many more like me out there... but word spreads, and soon enough, more interest will show up to your door. so hang in there bud.
if i didnt have the SC, id be the first one to get this, and id prob put a rush on it too... but with the experience ive had, im just so fucking determined to max this thing out to its peak, and ive narrowed it down to another $1000, which includes fuel upgrades and a/f/t control... at the same time, i know i will make more power with ur turbo, with my setup...but from having so much failures its caused me to shell out too much money... i went through 2 motors, one was rebuilt twice!!!...i dont wanna say any more.

^^ J and R are not in Cali... East coast bud... Anyhow, I'm glad to see HiSpeed on here...he's still on the quest for the ultimate sleeper. The only two Turbo'd TLs on the west coast, and in Norther California!? Insane... Like Opel said, don't let it get ya down, people will come around soon enough.

Ihc. I agree with what your saying but a piggyback and a tune can be had for way less than 1300. And I know that some people are going to talk about r&d which is worth some money. But that's why you add a reasonable profit Margin to the cost of the kit.
I'd like to see a breakdown of namebrand and actual parts used to create this kit.
I may end up building my own kit and buying their map

I think once people see one or two members have this kit and run it daily and see if there are problems or not as a result of having this kit you will have more people knocking on your door. Also just because people have been saying for years that they went a turbo kit for our cars doesn't mean they have 6 grand to fork up. Id be interested in a couple months from now and after I see other people running it to be honest.

Was thinking that I could then save and buy the off the shelf items as I get the money banked.
I am agonizing over this at the moment. If this is going to be a one time run, I'd hate to miss out.

x3 on wanting the kit for a TL-S. If i still had my 04 TL i would already been on this list but i sold and bought a new one. Like everyone else said dont give up and let the word spread for those on the V6 forums to figure a way to use your kit on their cars or for more of us that have the money to fork out and get it. I have read the turbo thread from start to now and have been all over wanting to put this on my car.

I think the demand is high, but the price is what is lowering everyone's interest even though many won't post it. I mean even when the S/C came out, the price tag was hefty and not many people purchased it. Everyone on these forums has been waiting for this turbo, by now everyone on these forums (old and new) has spent money on truly worthless options (but fun) such as exhaust, CAI, body kits, j-pipe, pre-cats, 3rd cat, etc... By now most have already spent thousands on there car. Now when you give them a turbo so late (theres already a new model thats out for the TL) with a high price tag, many people won't budge. And I completely understand how you got the price and whatever, but wish it was "affordable".
If somehow you put it for $3000, everyone will be on this especially when you put it for the Type-S. $3k may take awhile for a few members but by Christmas you'll have at least 30 buyers.

I think people see the blower for $4000-4500 and think "Oh I will just throw that baby on one weekend" I looked around for weeks for a shop I trusted my car to, and overpaid to have it done right.
Making a FI kit that adds 170 WHP to any car is going to be expensive and wanting to cheap out is counter productive. Getting a kit for 3k that blows your engine and you are out an engine and the down time if the car is your daily driver. Look at what a M3 cost to turbo.
I bought my car brand new so I guess I see $6k as a smaller % of the cars value. Those who paid 11K for the car see the price of the kit as more than half their cars value where I see it as more like one fifth.
