Dont listen to the other fools.

the best bang for the buck would be buying a car that actually has torque.

OP, you'll find that Acurazine is full of useless asses. I have learned to deal with their sarcasm and have no problem helping new members even if they may be posting in the wrong section of the forum. The best bang for your buck is definitely a cold air intake. You can see gains anywhere from 35-40 hp + 25lbs torque. Don't spoil yourself and get the intake first. Let it be your last mod. You'll really unshackle the beast. Just be careful with the added power....that's all I've got to say.

Or you can get a jpipe (downpipe) but meh...

I don't know why this stuff happens on every forum. People ask a question and then there's 30 replies. Maybe just Maybe 1or2 are ACTUALLY helpful.

If you want to reply to the topic then please make sure it's on topic and not some b.s lol beans.....

Anyways I own (2) TL's.
I would have to say that for the average person all that is needed is the following.

1) Aem Cold air Intake
2) J-pipe ( xlr8 v1/v2 )
3) Full Cat back ( xlr8 non res / res )
4) UR (xlr8 Stock Diam. pulley)

Optional
Rv6 v3 PCD's ( if you don't care about emissions it's an AMAZING MOD )

With the above mods you will be at about 260whp give or take. Which totally turns the TL into another car IMO , take into consideration that stock 2005 TL 6spd make about 210-215whp.

Just my 0.02.

If your on a budget just watch the black market on here and these items will pop up and grab them. If not contact Josh XLR8 and Rich RV6 for the parts. They are authorized vendors on this site and great guys.

The post was originally posted in the problems and fixes section which is why everyone was sarcastically answering him. OP - best bang for your buck right off the bat undisputed is a jpipe and PCDs (Precat deletes). Together they will run you about $800 give or take. You can see total gains up to 35hp total between those two. Your next question will be which jpipe should I get - it doesn't matter too much, just make sure you get one that has the longer pipe which replaces the 3rd catalytic converter. First generation jpipes were shorter and connected to the 3rd cat; newer generation jpipes have an extended pipe which cuts out the third cat. Your next question will be does a jpipe give you any CELs (check engine lights) since you're going to be removing a cat. The answer is no - there is no oxygen sensor connected to the 3rd cat.

You're probably going to ask somewhere along the line the same about the PCDs and the answer is yes and no. Some people have no problem at all with the included bung holes on the PCDs that fool the sensors and eliminate the CEL while others have problems with this off and on. As for which PCDs to get, you don't have as many options. Just get whatever you can find the cheapest. Keep an eye out in the black market as there are constantly people parting out their cars. Especially this time of the year - after tax time, a lot of people sell their cars or trade up for something newer since they have some money back. Keep an eye out.

Cold air intakes are really what I like to call an audible aesthetic mod for this car. It makes the car sound GREAT, but you will feel no noticeable gains from it if you just plan on doing bolt on mods. If you intend on doing engine work in the near future, a cold air intake will definitely benefit you, but you'll have to go custom and get a 4" intake for it to have any bearing on performance. If you don't plan on doing any engine work, just do the resonator removal mod. This is a box that is attached to your air filter box after a section of tubing that basically restricts the cars inhaling. I removed mine before I got my CAI and I recall my butt dyno telling me that I had a bit more low end torque than before.

Some other things...

Any time you do a mod like these, make sure you reset the ECU. The surefire way of doing this is to remove the negative cable from your battery for five minutes or so and then reconnect. You'll have to enter your nav and radio codes so make sure you have them before you do it.

There is an aftermarket, quality tuning option available for this car called the Hondata Flashpro. It will run you about $600.

We do not treat new members like this, period. If the OP was being an ass or something I can get that but seriously WTF.

Highly disappointed in some of you.

EDIT- reading some other threads where most if not all of you have acted similarly- maybe it's time for some bans to settle some of you down.

i think every member in here got treated like this when they were first new and asking dumb questions. WE ALL GOT THE SAME ANSWER... TRY THE SEARCH BUTTON, GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND, ETC. He didnt bother to search. I mean there is a thread someone that says "newbies read first" or something of that nature. You cant blame us for taking down a way to easy target

Additionally, this was originally posted in the problems and fixes section of the forum and then later moved here to the performance section. Even someone who has never used a forum before can differentiate the sections of a forum and post accordingly.

I'm going to say this once. The 3GTL forum is not Ramblings, the Off Topic section or any other forum that is designed to harass, embarass or ridicule others.

Re-read the rules for posting in 3GTL. If you want to nudge someone to search then do it politely. This forum is information based. If you can't follow the rules, then maybe this isn't the place for you.

So what if the noob posted in the Problems section. Big deal. Torque or lack thereof- was his "problem." geez.

Interesting, glad to see you are following me, i should give you my twitter handle. And where did i "flame" this member? I didnt post any stupid pics or give stupid answers like others. I simply was the one that spoke up about where we all were coming from. If your gonna ban me because i spoke up, then go ahead cuz this site is getting ruined with military rules everyday...Not once did i say search or anything rude of that nature. And as for the questions i asked, maybe i didnt get flamed cuz people didnt think they were overly repetitive. I dont know cuz i dont know which 5 you are referring too. Quite frankely i dont care. If you are going to apply your rules to me then apply them to everybody. I dont know why you singled me out. But im glad i have another fan

OP, there are couple questions you need to answer:

1> daily driven?
2> whats higher priority? reliable hp or more hp?

Either way, I would suggest a SC and some supporting mods....5-7K total and you will have atleast 100 more hp....

(base TL MT comes in at 220HP and S/C with supporting mods will take you to ~320-ish)....

or spend ~8-10K on a turbo kit and you will be around 400hp....

one main thing is putting down the power....i dont think the TL can put down that much power well....hence i recommend the S/C and calling it a day

if you are looking at smaller mods, PCD's/Jpipe/Exhaust will gain you around 25-30hp....intake side mods (port and polish, 3.7 manifold and TB, 4" intake, etc) will gain you another say 20-25hp....tune it with FIC or MS3 and you are good for 60-70hp....SAFE and Reliable
