Need help with fabbings SC CAI... what am I missing?

So I'm clear... It looks like all you need is:

- 135 3" silicone bend, seen here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-25-...spagenameZWDVW

The throttle body measures 2.65in... Just clamp it on?

- Any old 3" CAI kit to hack up to make work... I'm thinking this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-...m320265822368&

assuming it's 3" pipe. You need the 1/2 nipple for the CCV... so that's key.

I may invest in some better clamps (stainless t-bolt) and a better filter too.

... Hacksaw to trim the piping to fit, and I might get a Greddy CCV can to go with it...

Anything else, reccomendations from those who have been down theis road?

Haven't done it, but some of the parts/pipe for a "build your own CAI" can be found at AutoZone, etc.

make sure to check where the 'arm' of the CAI will bolt on to before you complete the build. besides that you're good. Oh, i think my CAI measured 3.25" just fyi.

Hmm.. have you contemplated cutting down your aftermarket one (aem, injen whatever) to fit the S/C ?

Ive only owned AEMs and their shape is slightly different from others, and i believe i've read success stores (maybe bklynpanman) cutting up AEM cai's, and still being able to mount them to the cars frame with their original vibra mount and have it fit pretty well...

I've seen some guys cut up their AEM CAI's like Allon said. You will want a certain bend to it to make it through to lower bumper area. If you want I have a generic TL CAI with K&N filter. It looks like this:

[/QUOTE]

Either way I think you will want something with a bend like that so try finding one similar to that.

I bought blnkypanman's SC. It came with a modded AEM. Don't like it... It's got a hacked up look to it.

I'd rather try my hand and make one myself.

Being brilliant, I sold my Fujita... Didn't think I'd want a SC CAI. Of course I do now.

Josh, that looks pretty good actually... I'll send you a PM on that.

Ok, the elbow you are looking at is too small. The elbow needs to be a 90 degree 3" inch piece. It needs to be a multi ply to keep from collapsing and 3 inch to fit the CAI you are using. I bought a 98 accord 4 cyl intake and cut it to fit perfectly behind the bumper. By cutting the intake I was able to reverse some of the bends to work perfectly. If you need any more help i can post the pics of my set up. I also got 2 strait silicone pieces to connect the pieces of intake tube together. You are right that the TB is not exactly 3 inches round, I used the rubber piece connecting the TB to the Ice box and put it on the TB to make the 3 inch elbow fit snug.

Elbow too small...? It's what Actros and Ussi used I believe:
Edit... oops, I meant to post a link to a 3" elbow:

Post some pics... Sounds like I'm almost there.

Here you go. I used the 90 degree elbow but 135 should work too.

^Thanks for the pic... I got no such thing as a "local fab guy" around me...

Why would you run the p2r spacer with the SC?

all my parts cost a total of 30 bucks + 45 for the filter, all ebay intercooler piping. i am using a 5x9 AEM dryflow filter, rather than the standard 5x5 too.

unfortunately, i dont think you TL guys can fit a filter this size, due to limited space. i think thats the reason they dont have a V2 available for the 3rd gen. its too bad cause i did feel a difference going to a bigger filter. plus the sound bumped up a notch too

so,,, silicone elbow, 2 pipes (sorry i forgot the degree's needed) a couple of clamps and reuse the comptech hose fitting, thats it.

and for the breather tube, one brass nipple is needed. i just drill a hole directly into the silicone elbow and installed it with a washer and nut.

It might fit. Since I am sending my headlights out I thought I would start this process.

My breather tube needs to be much longer unless I do the brass nipple Idea from above. I might use the 130 bend then hack my AEM into three pieces. The part with the nipple, the part I am throwing away and the part that goes down into the intake.

1 more thing....

If you are going to cut up the AEM use a 3.25 bend. Getting my K&N filter on was a b.i.t.c.h.

I found the 3 inch elbow was to large to fit the TB without a spacer to fill the gap. Looks like other people just clamped it down.

I am going to try and reuse the AEM breather nozzle so I have to go with the 3.25 bend.

I still can't get the K&N filter on but since I have no headlights or the bend piping project is on hold.

Did you find the CAI woke the SC up a bit? I am assuming this is only for sound because the comptech was shielded. I can't believe how hot the SC makes things.

The CAI made the car much meaner. For one the whine is alot louder, second the car seems faster. All that cooler air combined with the less restrictive elbow has to make more power. My car sounds like a F1 car at WOT. With the exhaust you have you can really exploit the full potential of the supercharger with the less restrictive Custom CAI. I think the 3 1/4 inch tube is going to be too big but check it out.
