My review of AEM CAI
My review of a AEM cold air intake on a ’04 TL 6speed ( 22k ). Car also has A-Spec suspension and 245/45/17 Conti eXtreme’s on stock 17” rims.
The install was pretty straight forward and except for a tight work space and improper tooling, the install took just under 4 hours. It really is amazing what you pull out of the car, the old intake has to be 20lbs of plastic. My setup has the “last page “mod, which was completed the following day.
While the installation was completed 2 weeks ago, I only had 3 days to test drive/check out install till I had to travel for business. I came home to some pretty cool Chicago mornings. The car is totally Jekyll and Hyde. Below about 3000rpms it “stock quiet” and it’s very mild mannered. The car seems the same down low, maybe just a little easier to drive away in first gear.
Above 3500, it starts to get throaty…………….and from their on up it just gets mean. Imagine that great v-tec growl but a good octave lower. The car seems to rev a lot quicker; it lunges towards the redline. In stock form, chirps into second were easy and 3rd gear chirps were do-able, now it’s normal in everyday driving without much effort.
Another benefit is much better pick up in 5th & 6th gears. I’ve noticed that when I’m cruising in 5th at about 45-55 ( trying to save a little gas, yeah right, not with this thing growling away ) the car has much better pick up than stock. And as mentioned above, it also seems to be a little easier to launch in normal driving ( sometimes this takes a little too much concentration than it should to be smooth ).
Overall I’d give the AEM CAI 2 thumbs up.

Cold Racketeer
cant wait to put mine in. was going to try it myself but i realize now i'd spend about as much in tools (i dont even have a drill any more) as I'd spend to have it installed... LOL
it's sitting on my couch. looking pretty but not making much noise yet.
