Mufflers Being Installed Tomorrow

So you may have read my past post of having a custom exhaust being installed because my mechanic needs cars to train with his new "Blue Torch" Exhaust bending machine. So the trainer was there today when I stopped by. He told me to NOT change the piping diameter because it will actually decrease the horsepower and back pressure. He said he does not understand why people do this. He ordered two SS Mufflers for me and said he would take them to the Y Pipe, without changing the diameter. He also said to remove the resonator, mid muffler, or both. I said I would research/......Should I take both of them out or a specific one? Does it matter? All i am being charged for is the shops "cost" for the mufflers$225 total. No labor costs for me. I figured why not...I can always sell the mufflers for more later....I will be sure to post pics and sound bytes.

And most people prob wont like the look I am going for...i ordered the mufflers with the 3.5 slanted opening. Someone else on here had them and I though it looked better than the stock tips.

I needed to keep the stock mufflers as is because I will have to get them back on when I turn the car in off of lease....

I'd go with a larger diameter after the Y.

Unless you want a raspier sound leave the resonator in there but take out the mid muffler.

Thanks Subinf. Does it really matter what kind of free flowing muffler I pick...They are all the same arent they? I forget what this guy ordered for me. I know they were expensive. I just was picking out the look, tip, etc.

I just dont want a real high raspy sound...so from what you say, I will leave the resonator in and take out the mid muffler...correct

not really, most of them do pretty much the same thing. and I dont know if a search will turn up much info on using different resonators. you will probably be fine sticking with the OEM. another alternative is using a dynomax or goerlics resonator.

Lembowski, thanks, I did read that however. But I am still looking for sound clips that work on the different options of removing different things...etc.

Hey I want to change the diameter on my piping, I hardly need any backpressure on my car. FI. I live about 1 hr from King of Prussia mall, so let me know if they want some practice, and to eliminate the y bend in my car will help alot. I would like 3" pipes all the way.

yes and no....i think cross sections are the best thing ever but you dont see many of them. flowmaster and magnaflow have a free flow design, though achieved through different means (which affects sound). other mufflers might only go for a tonal change and have a lot of shit in the way of the exhaust, etc.
