Mid Muffler Removal QUESTIONS!

I've been reading on other threads

NOT a TL btw.

so basically all i need to do is remove the mid muffler nd leave the resonator for the deeper sound like the g35?

PLEASE PLEASE post step-by-step pics of how to do it, write it down,
explain, w/e there is that is necessary for me to become 100% familiar with what can be done for that kind of a sound without any raspy sounds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I-k9M1Fu08
According to the person who posted the video, his car is BONE STOCK and all he did was remove the mid muffler. Please, if there are any pictures of a before and after a mid muffler is removed... please post!

Thank you!

I just took mine to a local shop and had then remove the mid muffler and replace it with a length of pipe. Cost me between $35 & $50 .. can't remember. Took 1/2 hour.

I kept the muffler in case I didn't like the noise.

if you just take off the mid muffler it wont sound like a g35. this is called a stage 2 exhaust. if you want the sound of a g35 you go for stage3 in this stage you take off the mid muffler and resonator and replace with a dynomax resonator it doesnt cost that much to get. you can also watch videos on youtube. hope this helped

Here you go...

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ht=muffler+mid

Should answer all your questions regarding the mid-muffler delete. I just got mine done this weekend (Stage 2 - mid muffler delete, removal of stock resonator, addition of Magnaflow resonator). I paid a little more than everyone else; around $180 for everything. But that's the best I could find up here in the NW. Hope this helps. BTW, it's definitely worth it if you don't want to invest in a new exhaust system.

edit: Sorry just reread your post. You probably already read the post I linked. So step-by-step (at least for Stage 2)

1. Shop will cut out stock resonator
2. Shop will attach Magnaflow resonator
3. Shop will cut out mid-muffler
4. Shop will run 2.5" piping (aluminized) from the new Magnaflow resonator to fill the left over space from the deleted mid-muffler.

The following is directly from AZNBO187 and is CORRECT!

So I took the time and made this post so all of the new people don't have to go through 20 pages of discussion.

So far, there are 4 stages of this exhaust mod.

Stage 1.
Least noticeable in exhaust note increase.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe. Everything else remains stock.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $30-$60 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 2.
A tad louder than stage one, a bit more pronounced tone.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Magnaflow resonator part# 10416.
Magnaflow resonator is a 14" long resonator, which dampens and changes the note of the stock exhaust a bit more, thus you get a bit more loudness/tone.
Cost: Magnaflow resonator costs around $60. Install ranges from $60 -$90 w/ aluminized pipping.

Stage 3.

(Tone result TBA)
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Dynomax resonator part# WLK-24215.
Dynomax resonator is a 12" long resonator, which is a bit shorter and less dampening than the magnaflow resonator, thus it should give you a bit more loudness/tone than stage 2.
Cost: Dynomax resonator costs around $40. Install ranges from $60 - $90 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 4.
Loudest setup out of all 3. Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.
Stock exhaust.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $40 - $60.

Note: If you live in a climate that is prone to rain, snow, rust, Stainless steel pipping is highly recommended.
This also does not prevent you from passing smog, as it does not alter the characteristics of the catalytic converters, but it does not mean that this is street legal either as it does alter the stock setup of the exhaust.

A good muffler shop will have the straight pipe in stock. All you should need to provide is the new resonator (Dynomax or Magnaflow). GL!

^^ Yes, you will be able to pass emissions. The only way you would not be able to pass is if you change the pre-cats, which is where the O2 sensor is; other than that you are good to go.

Thanks for posting this! I'm thinking about removing the mid-muffler on my AV6spd coupe. Does anyone have a sound clip with the mid-muffler delete and one of the many J-pipes? MY exhaust note is slightly louder than stock and very minimal backfire when it's quiet (1 - 2.5k RPM) with the stock exhaust/RV6 J-pipe/test pipe. I'm interested in the mid-muffler delete; should make it noticeable that the exhaust isn't stock

I read this thread and it motivated me to do it.. I just got back from the Muff shop..

They charged me 25$ to delete the mid-muff.. It sounds pretty cool, but barely noticable.. like BARELY.. so I am goin to find the dynamax res and have them install it for another 25$..

I just googled muffler shop in CV, and it came up with a bunch of places..

I called around and this guy was really reasonable..

Sams Muffler & Radiator
225 Beyer Way
Chula Vista, CA 91911

Super nice people.. So yup they only charged me 25$ If I was smart I should have gotten the res first and only had to pay 25$ once for the install and midmuff delete.. But I wanted to see if it was gunna be too loud first so I went with this setup.. So my dumb ass is gunna have to pay twice.. Im def getting the dynamax res tho.. LMK if you wanna meet up or whatever to hear it, im in east county all the time.. I go to SDSU..

HEY PUFFPUFF!

i live in burbank, ca.
kinda far from sd so i won't be able to head down there =/ but when you get the dynomax in, PLEASE let me know if the check engine light goes off or not.

btw... 25 bucks is HELLA CHEAP! it's 60 for the mid muff delete/straight pipe and it's 100 to add on the dynomax. rip offs T.T

O nd... here you go

Thanks for the link, but no your CEL will not come on.. I am positive about that, there is nothing that would cause your CEL to come on.. The o2 sensor is before any of that stuff..

ps- (CEL=Check Engine Light)

So what do we here at Acurazine call a Stage 3 exhaust that has the 3rd cat removed as well? Also, i would assume that this would fail emmissions?

^^ As I stated before, you will NOT fail emissions with the 3rd cat delete because there are no O2 sensors in the 3rd cat. You will ONLY fail emissions if you delete the pre-cats which have an O2 sensor. And even then, if you get an O2 simulator you will be able to pass.

You also have the option of running , no mid and an Aero AR25 resonator.

I currently have a base 07, running Aero AR25, no mid, and TypeS catbacks, and I tell you.. it sounds sweet.

I am not so sure this is true.. For sure there will be no CEL, but im not positive you will pass emissions, as the catalytic converter is an essential piece of the exhaust system..

^^ You're right. You will not pass emissions with the pre-cats deleted. I got emissions and CELs confused, go figure ha. You WILL pass emissions with the 3rd cat delete though since the pre-cats do most of the work

Well went from stage 1 to stage 3 yesterday.. didnt really make that much of a difference IMO.. Sounds ok though.. Def wanna upgrade to ATLP though..

Oh BTW Choiboyy.. No CEL

There are alot of videos up showing the sound of exhaust but I dont think they depict the sound accurately.. So I will be doing a short clip pretty soon just for the hell of it..

When adding a dynomax/mag res & the mid delete, do you need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer or just run it a few times for it to recalibrate. Also, since the car is under warranty, if I have to carry it in, will it void it or possibly get a bunch of bs thrown back at me. Thanks!

I dont think you need to recalibrate the exhaust, its not really changing anything performance wise.. Just makes it sound cooler.. lol

And Warranty wise, it will obviously void the warranty on your exhaust but you should not have any issues with any other problems. FYI I took my car in today because of heater problems, and they said nothing about it.

BTW.. A little off topic, but they gave me an 08 TSX loaner.. This thing really sucks.. Slow ass hell, feels cheap.. like a TL imitation.. I dont even wanna drive the thing..

it takes a few days, maybe a week or so to let the new resonator "break-in". my stage 2 wasn't sound too good in the first week or so... now it's been 7 months and it sounds a lot nicer than first week, i do realize that the hotter the exhaust is, the louder it will sound, weird.

Sounds good to me. The last car I had, if you changed anything you had to disconnect the battery for a few hours. With new tech, things are better...most time

I just did the mid muffler delete, got a thick 2.5" stainless pipe and got it TIG welded at my speed shop (for Chicago winter road...) and in combo with the ATLP Jpipe and racepipe the sound is just where I want it, def not drony or high pitch, real happy it with the mod!! I posted it to.. (taped the camera on the back bumper haha!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqTJFcW8kfs
