K&N intake hissing

Hello,

I go to my intake installed 2 weeks ago , I hear a bit of a hissing when i press on the gas consistently. Im wondering if this is normal , I know its supposed to make a blowout valve kinda noise when it changes gears but it happens before that. Thank you in advance.

This is a normal issue with the AEM V2 as far as I've read. Mine makes a hissing sound in the low RPM's as well.

Does it fade after 2-2,500RPM?

This is normal with every cold air intake on pretty much ne car...i dont think the "hissing" ever goes away (at higher rpm's) but is drowned out by other sounds i.e. engine

I have had a "whinning" sound that progressively becomes higher pitch during normal driving until the AT shifts into the next gear and it starts again. This condition started ever since I installed the K&N Typhoon. At first I thought it was coming from the radio but the whinning continued when the radio is off.

Are we all talking about the same issue? Any one else experience this? If so, what is the root cause? Thanks.

CAI dealer install

I purchased the AEM for my Accord but was quite disappointed with AEM tech support and unit's sound. With that lessson learned, I decided to try a company that is well known and respected for years, K&N, for my Acura TL.

Due to all the concerns about warranty and some dealers telling me they would cancel my warranty, I got one local service manager's blessing to install it prior to. In fact, one of their mechanics entered the conversation and even volunteered to install it on his lunch hour. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised and let him install it on the spot. No receipt since he did it on his lunch hour for $25. Talk about luck. No challenges from the dealer on any warranty/service work since other than the 'whinning' sound.

The K&N has a very robust design. I am still not sure about the 'whinning' sound that increases in pitch as I accelerate. Keep in mind the low to high frequency sound increases until shifting which starts the process again.

Any thoughts or comments on the root cause guys?

Just to be clear, this "whinning sound" is easily noticed by passengers in the cabin.

Who else is experiencing this condition?

I'm pretty sure this hissing sound you're talking about is completely normal. This is a normal thing to happen on all honda/acura cars after you get a cold air intake. I have a Fujita CAI and my intake makes a hissing sound at low rpms.

Seems like every CAI on the TL makes some kind of noise that doesn't sound "normal" to people. I've read most if not all of the threads here on this and I don't think the cause has ever been explained. Also, it seems like there are mixed opinions, which is expected, on what the noise actually sounds like. For me, my AEM makes a squealing noise (like a squealing belt but not as loud) under light throttle in the 2k-2.8k rpm range. Slightly more or less throttle and it goes away.

The first thing I noticed when I installed the AEM was that when you blip the throttle in neutral, there's a quick screech sound. Not a big deal. But then I found out later about the squeal I had and started reading up on it. Again, not sure if what I have is what others are referring to as the "whistle". Also not sure if some people are referring to the sound of air pulling through the tube as a whistle either (that "whoosh" sound).

I'm going to try the AEM V2 since it's reported not to "whistle" although one member recently posted that his V2 does. But, not sure if it's the same sound that he's referring to. I'm interested to see/hear the results from the V2 install but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much.

It sounds like their is a tradeoff for every mod. The question becomes is one willing to give up something Honda controlled or eliminated for a potential performance increase. Every mod I have made resulted in an unwanted characteristic... and yes, even with the RSB... but I live with it.

Sounds like an opportunity to exercise that Acura warranty.

My K&N Typhoon is Quiet

My k&n typhoon is quiet. You don't even notice it until I get on it. Then it makes a deep throaty sound. Now if you pay close attention at idle it sounds a little heavier but nothing someone would notice if I didn't tell them I had a CAI. Other than that nothing.

Yeah I get the same with my AEM intake. it's like a slight hissing/screech. Only when increasing speed slowly at low RPM's. I thought it was a problem myself but I guess not hah.
