1 delete mid muffler
2 delete mid muffler and use magnaflow resonator
3 delete mid muffler and use dynomax resonator
4. delete everything and use straight pipe

Thanks, I was always curious about what the different stage setups were.

I'm not sure what you else could have expected.
That has to sound horrible... If I'm reading correctly, stage 4 = straight pipe from the cat-back, no resonator, no mid-mufflers, no rear mufflers.

Wow. Way to take a brand new TL-S and, ugh ... Your car, your money for sure. I guess "good = loud". I'm sorry dude, that's just dumb, and illegal, and noise polluting.

This is the first time I have seen anyone try to place a "staging" level on an TL exhaust effort. Personally, I think staging levels are more appropriate to actual tuning (like turbos) rather than exhaust but this is the Internet so I guess you can attempt to coin any phrase you want. I just don't think anyone would want this verison of a stage 4 modification

didn't someone already try the "stage 4" on the 3rd gen TL already? I remember reading it in one of the "deleting midmuffler and replacing resonator threads" ...

Kennedy...actualy i do have the rear mufflers theres only a 4 foot section of straight pipe. next time know the argument before attempting your final closing.

ndabunka...FYI i didnt stage the exhausts, look at the 28 page thread REMOVING YOUR STOCK RESONATOR.

heres the thread,,,there is a videoe clip of a mid muffler delete/resonator delete on page 26

I think that he retained the rear mufflers. I remember reading the other "exhaust stage" thread and none of those included removing the rear mufflers.

I can't imagine anyone would remove everything from the cats back and replace with straight pipe.

hmm not sure then...you might want to try to put an aftermarket resonator (dynomax or magnaflow) back on if the raspiness is too much. That setup seems to be one the that works best.

Gee, I wonder how I screwed up the arguement.

I have a set of NIB Magnaflow's (mufflers, resonator, and Y connector) for sale, all NIB. Just picked up a used Comptech exhasut never even had a chance to get it installed. Interested?

to me

stage 2 is the dynomax resonator
and
stage 3 is the magnaflow resonator

oh, and stage 4 is putting a civic pea shooter exhaust

i would like to see this list validated and confirmed anywhere else except on a thread that someone here started.

like mentioned above, "stages" on a car should really only refer to a turbo setup. I've only been interested in the import scene for about 15 years, so what do i know right?

lets see... that's 1, 2, 3 instances of sarcasm in one short post. nice!

I also had deleted my mid muffler and resonator. Liked it alot. Sounded raspy @ 2.5k rpms. A sound clip of my setup is in that 'exhaust mod stage' thread posted above^ page 22 or somthin. Then I got my magnaflow mufflers 11365 I think - longer than the standard 14" setups that p'ple have and I am extremely happy with it. No mid muffler and resonator with magnaflows is the way to go IMO. I'll post some sound clips after I get my rear end fixed. Its mashed up from an accident a couple weeks ago.

i don't think stages in this instance refers to actual stages or progression (i.e. w/ turbos, clutch kits, etc.). It's more a categorization for sound stages. For instance, stage 1 offers the least sound change, stage 2, a little more, stage 3 offers more than stage 2, and stage 4 is the loudest. I doubt there are any gains to this because the piping under the car remains the same.

I am confused, what does having an S have anything to do with it? you need to add resonator back in to get rid of the rasp.

drdug27,

Can you please let me know before you put the resonater whether the sounds get better or not? I want to put flanges for this mod and I don't feel spending too much money to put flanges on both resonator and mid muffler. I was thinking to delete both resonator and mid muffler and replace them with straight pipe and flange them. Thanks.

if you like a more raspy note just use the straight pipe. when its cold and around 2500rpm its sounds raspy but when i open it up it sounds amazing. probably gonna putt the dynoma reson on though.

check this thread page 22..they have all the sound clips on it

Why the flanges? when/why would you revert to the stock setup?

Well, just in case you want to sell the car in the future.

drdrug27,

Thanks for the link. I listened to it before and it's hard to make a decision just by listening from the video clip.

so yea....stage 4 gives u a really bad rasp somewhere around 2.5-3k rpms....i had it for about a week and then went to stage 2 which i somewhat liked it but then i heard about stage4 and i am totally happy with it....the sound i believe gets loouder on the stage 3 as time goes by....

result is dont go with a stge 4 unless you want to tune your car alot....thats what i think at least.....my 2 cents...
