Just removed intake resonator!!

Hey everyone. I just had the intake resonator removed from my car, Well I have to say I can tell a huge difference in the response time now.. also if I get on it//it really sounds good. Just want to say this is def the first mod that should be done if you are working on a small budget. I have to get a K&N AIRFILTER BUT NO one has any in my area. Anyone know where to get one for cheap??

try amazon.com but in all honesty you won't gain much power from it. You will save some money in the future from just re-oiling the filter vs. replacing the filter. Just be careful while re-oiling! The recharge kits are meant for 5 applications so don't use the whole darn thing!

I'm sure they could atleast order the filter for ya there. Just sayin or anyplace online would carry a k&n filter that u could order u'rself.

Agreed more noise! Although the reason I did this is to remove the bog I feel at low throttle. This def improve the throttle response. Personally a simple diy and happy all around.

I'm getting ready to do this in a week or so. I decided against a CAI or SRI since the power gains are so small. I'm not expecting any kind of noticable gains; just an increase in sound. I've taken the front bumper off for my A-Spec install and it's more of a pita then anything else. The instructions in the Acura eStore are a pretty good guide for bumper removal to anyone doing this mod that hasn't taken the bumper off before. I have the Acura service manual and the illustrations in the A-Spec install guide are much better in my opinion. Also, there are some pretty good "DIY" threads on here too.

I agree with the K&N filter being more of a long-term investment than more of a short-term gain in HP. There is no question that K&N produces bad products but I do believe some of their claims are a tad misleading. However, you will notice your car will "breathe" a lot easier than with the stock filter. I've always bought them for my cars because, I must admit, I think there is negligible HP but nothing to write home about and second, as long as you properly take care of them they can last a very long time. I bought mine at Autozone. I had to special order it but it was like $55. I'm not sure if that's too expensive or not but, hell, the OEM filter has a list price of $27.57, though you can usually get them for about $20.

Is there no question? Or is that just the general consensus?

Has anyone found independent research online for automotive air filters? I've been looking but I can't find any information like you can find for oil filters and oils.

So you felt a huge difference in power by removing a piece of 3" pipe. The stock intake tract is not a restriction, removing it does nothing for power besides the slightly cooler air. It takes close to 30hp to feel a difference in a 3,500lb car. If you gained anything it would be less than 5hp. I've already done this mod and all I got was noise.

^^^hey hey hey...that's not fair! We don't all have a 10 second weekend car!!!!

It sounds cool which makes us think it's going faster. But hey...when people ask if someone's boobs are real I always say "if I can touch it, it is real".

Either way, free mod...psuedo cold air intake and as mentioned...K&N saves you some bucks in the long run in maintenance costs.

Nothing wrong with it, I have it done too. It just misleads people saying you gain a ton of power when it's doubtful it's measurable. Good point on the boobs.

For this cat, it wasn't totally free. They removed the front bumper and now has an SRS light. Don't know if he fixed that.

Hmmm...wonder if they disconnected a light or something?!?

Matt, I gotcha. Was just teasing...was kinda thinking it turned my car into RWD when I removed my resonator. Then I realized I was going in reverse.

Thats funny.....HUGE GAINS from resonator removal lol. I have removed my front bumper many times and looked over that resonator box a lot. It actually seems that Acura put a lot of time into designing that. I say this because its actually designed to pull cold/fresh air into the intake box and quiet it down at the same time. I removed my bumper with intentions of removing that but after seeing how its routed and exactly what it does I left it in. Believe it or not its kind of similar to a ram air system (in a way). Without it I would imagine your pulling in warmer engine bay air. Sure your car might sound cooler, but thats about all.

Another thing that I found interesting is that after looking over the K&N filter that came in my recently purchased Type S is that it almost seems more restrictive than the OEM filter. Im not claiming this to be an accurate test by any means but it sure was interesting to say the least. I had the clean K&N filter and new OEM filter side by side. I would blow air through the filter to see what I felt on the opposite side. Believe it or not no matter how hard I blew I could not feel any air go through the clean K&N filter. I then try the OEM filter and no shit I could feel air flow right through it. Not only that, but the OEM filter has significantly thicker filtering area which means it has a lot more surface area for air to pass through. Again, I have no data to prove this, but from my own personal test the OEM filter out flows the K&N, filters much better, and has much greater surface area. K&N filter bye bye :-)

you are correct. the stock paper air filter outflows the throttle body.

I also left the resonator in place.

You fail. Even in your other threads you literally fail, spelling, grammar and your car. Stop trying to rice out your car. You will however see much more power if you just run your intake without filter, gives mad air flow dog.

I apologize, had a long day today, Normally I don't say or respond to any thread if I'm not helping or giving advice. Anywho, you may say you feel the difference probably because of the sound or that you are driving it a little more aggressive instead of your normal driving behaviors. Neither way the intake tube is still sucking the same amount of air, nothing is forcing it in, if anything you should be loosing power because it's now sucking hot air from your engine compartment. Look man, this is a Tl, not your riced spec v or that nissan you wanted to trade for, keep it classy, enjoy it and leave it alone unless your going to do real mods worth doing like a J-pipe or a non-ebay exhaust.
