J-Pipe bang for buck?

J-Pipe bang for buck?
Hello, I need your opinion on this, I've been on the fence about his for awhile, of all the threads I've read this is the bang for your buck mod. However I remember reading one thread where someone said they put on a J-pipe along with a cai and didn't notice any difference, I assume on the butt dyno. To those who've had it replaced, do you notice a significant increase in power or just moderate? I have 5AT. Or should I save up even more for a J-pipe and pre cat deletes, but on a stock exhaust? Thanks.

yes.
15 horses for $470, where as a cold air intake cost $300 and only gains about 2hp.
you'll be happy.
for what its worth: the jpipe was my very first mod.
I loved it. dont listen to ppl that talk about bottle necking. its okay if you have stock exhaust. hell, i still have stock exhaust.

As long as you go with one of the newer jpipe designs I say they are for sure worth it. Like the RV6 V3 and new ATLP V2 which both are a long tube design and eliminate the 3rd cat.
I was super lucky and found a used V3 and got it for $250 shipped to my door!!! I also have a 6mt Type S so my car might see more benefits compared to other TL's. The car always feels super peppy regardless of the outside conditions and it pulls real nice all the way through 100+mph. I changed nothing else on the car as far as mods go.
I say fore sure get the jpipe or wait it out and try and find a used one on the black market. Worst case if you dont like it just turn around and sell it.

I got my Rv-6 when the presale was happening so mine was about $423 shipped. I instantly noticed a difference in power. It's definitely worth it. However, I had a moderately open exhaust before I had gotten the j pipe so I also got an extremely annoying rasp so I'll have to take care of that soon.

I would love to do PCD's and a Jpipe but that would net me right around the $900 range not including labor. I wish I could drive someone's car with these.

Even some pcd's with all other stock exhaust would be a big change. I never ran my hi flow cats until I had the SC so I can't say for sure how good it feels on a NA car but I gained 50-60 HP from the cats, ATLP j pipe with 3 rd cat delete, and cat back with the SC.

I had an 07 TL-S 5AT and my first mod was AEM V2 CAI....fail. No power just sound. Next, I purchased the RV6 V3 Jpipe....POWER!!! At a complete stop when I floored the gas, the tires will SMOKE!! Not a little but a lot. Also I went to use the paddle shifter and shifted from 1st to 2nd at 25mph and chirped second gear. After, I installed the ATLP V2 Quad Exhaust which was great but not nearly as noticeable as the RV6 Jpipe.
I later sold my CAI and Jpipe and ran only the ATLP V2 quads and it felt similar to the jpipe with a little less tq. Get the Jpipe!
Edit: The PCD's are the ultimate best bang for the buck as stated above, but depending on where you are, you may not be able to pass emissions. Our vendor Richie V6 (RV6) sells both PCDs for emissions and non emission states.

Haha...you'll find all the info here on the forum with a few searches. Check out our black market section below. You may come across a good deal. Just be warned when a good deal comes up, they are usually gone within a few minutes. I found out the hard way several times...lol. Alot of members sell their old parts when they get ready to sell their cars. I sold all my power adders and my DVD setup in my TL in about a week or two.

Yeah thanks, I already checked and I dont' see any good deals. Even if it's around $300 it's usually scraped but I still have to buy new bolts, gaskets and possibly repair the flex pipe adding more to the costs. So would you guys suggest that I save and get them both then do the install, or get a jpipe and wait for the PCD's?

I never did the PCD mod, but I'm sure it really wouldn't matter if you got them both at the same time. Either Jpipe or PCD will give you guaranteed power you can feel. Then just save and pick up your next mod!
From what I read the Jpipe install is easier than the PCD. I installed mine in the driveway. Should be less than an hour and presto you have a genuine extra 15 whp...lol!!

I'd wait for a good deal whether its a combo deal or just the j-pipe or PCD alone. I waited for a few months before purchasing my set up and ended up with a combo of ATLP Quads v2, ATLP J-Pipe v2, and ATLP Race pipe for $1000 + local pick up. Install is very simple, just dont forget your best friend WD-40

richie sends new gaskets.
I believe they are stock Honda gaskets.
he provides anti seize as well.
I work for a geophysical company.
I'm a geo tech, I apply geometry to seismic data to help clean up the images so that other scientist can look for oil.
basically, i'm on the computer all day.

There's an old thread of a guy on here with PCDs and J-pipe going through a stock exhaust and I loved it. Idle was almost stock-like and it only got louder when on the throttle but retained the deep sound.
I only wish I had done this many years ago. Mine has to pass smog for the first time next year.

I like it. I know you titled it "rasp" and I hate rasp but that sounds good to me. I'm very conservative but that's something I might actually do. The only thing is, the 6mt will always sound better with exhaust than the more constant rpm 5at.

Why would that change?
Everybody likes either 1.) the "new, latest greatest" J-pipe, or, 2.) the one they already bought.
Truth is they're all pretty similar. This one is maybe a little better here, that one is maybe a little better there. I can't see how any of the common J-Pipes currently available can be a "bad" choice.
