It's Been a while...time for a change? Maybe?

So I owned my car for almost two years now. It's a 2005 TL 6MT with a DC Intake and straight pipe. Overall the car has been great. However, It's lost its charm to me....I feel that its sluggish, only makes me smile certain days of the week..I just want more.

I was originally thinking of just saying good bye to the TL and going to a 335i or a M235i or something with more of an aftermarket platform..but.. ilove the way my TL looks. I love the way the 3rd Gen TL's look, with the body lines and overall menacing appearance, especially in Silver and at night.

I recently got a new job at a dealership, I'm a salesman and its a fairly small dealership but with amazing inventory and amazing techs and two BMW master techs and a Porsche Racing engineer who is amazing at welding.

Given that, would it be doable to do an AWD swap for the TL? I wouldn't stop there, I'd rebuild the motor just for durability and i'd probably have a custom turbo setup built for it as i'm not really a supercharger kind of guy. I know its doable for the turbo, but I don't know much about the AWD aspect.

Could I just get a totaled out 4th gen SH-AWD and swap the drivetrain? Keeping the stop 3.2 and tranny but adding a more beefier clutch?

I wanna be the first to own a AWD Turbo 3rd gen TL and anythings possible right?

I don't want this brushed away. I would love for us as a community to get together and think about it logistically and see what options there are that don't involve me selling my car and getting a 4th gen.

Biggest obstacle would definelty be the computer..is there any way to just code it to accept that theres an extra two wheels driving the car too?

Thank you for your input

Pretty sure your BIGGEST obstacle would be your wallet. I am sure its possible to custom fab something, but will have to become a drug lord to fund the project.

Working at a small dealership, as a salesman, working off commission. Good luck funding the project. Keep us posted!

Much better choices out there that would give you what you are looking for, for a fraction of the cost for this project.

might as well just move into the 4G SHAWD with 6MT and then turbo that.
or you can get an RL and swap the clutch over from the 4G SHAWD TL.

Both of those would be easier and less costly than creating an all wheel drive solution to the TL.

SH-AWD swaps are gonna be popping up in the near future IMO, SH-AWD enabled vehicles are becoming beyond cheap. Almost picked up another RL last week for $1000, just for the hell of it

Keep the TL as a daily and buy an M235i and go Pure Stage 2. 2014 M235i won’t break the bank. The 2 Series is an absolute BLAST. My M240i runs deep 12’s with just a piggyback/intake. Gonna do a catless DP and Burger’s meth kit this spring and have a solid upper 11 second car, with four simple mods. Sucks no one has cracked the DME on the b58 yet. A flash is needed badly, then hopefully we can trade the meth for e85. Luckily, the 235i has the n55, and while the n55 stock turbo is more limited, at least it’s flashable and with a PS2 turbo ugrade and supporting mods, they’re very fast.

N54 and N55 is the most under rated motor from factory, 300 HP lol yeah right it more like 300 WHP stock. How much usually for the Burger tune? which one better between JP and Burger? I saw several 335i goes into 11 secs

B58 is even more underrated. Not sure what JP is, but most Burger JB4’s run around $500. B58 cars in stock form make more than the N54/55. The early (‘07) N54 cars and late (‘13-15) N55 cars were more underrated than the middle years. An X-Drive M240i with just a JB4 and downpipe can run 12 flat, maybe upper 11’s in perfect weather at a fast track. The slightly heavier 340i (with 15 less hp stock) can do very low 12’s with a JB4 and dp. Takes a bit more mods to run those times on The N motors. The RWD models lose a couple tenths but are a bit quicker on a roll. A bone stock RWD 240i makes around 330-335 whp and the 340i, around 320.

The N54 is still king when it comes to making big (700+) power on an aftermarket single with supporting mods, but once the B58 DME is cracked, it should exceed it. I think Big Boost is pushing close to 600 whp on a 240i with Stage 2 turbo, meth, JB4 and exhaust. Once they can run port injection with a flash tune, the mighty N54 will fall. But the DME is highly encrypted, so it could be a few more years.
