Hey people, so first off thank you for all the advice. The Air intake arrived for my son's tl and we got busy removing the bumper, intake resonator, and installation of the new intake

Where's the vibration mount?

Toddrod 07-02-2018 10:29 PM

Sorry I'll need to be educated, what's a vibration mount?

There is usually a mount welded to the tube right above the filter that bolts to that empty screw hole to the left of the airbag harness.

It's a far way from there though, this CAI is by far the highest sitting one I've seen.

Did that come as a kit specifically for the 3G TL? Or just a bunch of various pipes/clamps you have to fit together yourself?

Also looks like an engine bay cleaning is next up on the list haha

Looks good. Hopefully you're not paying for his gas with that MOD...lol

yes this kit was specific to the tl. I was a little surprised at the final location of the filter, I thought it would seat a bit lower than it does. And thank you for info about the vibration mount, the kit came with 2 separate clips, nothing welded to the tubing though.

One question, "Why?"

I got about 5F-10F cooler intake air temps when I installed a CAI on my 3G. It was nothing more than a tube fitted for the 3G from eBay for like, $30, along with a cone filter. Obviously the actual power gains there are so marginal that they probably wouldn't even show up on a dyno. But hey, for the price it was a good mod

The real question is how much he paid for it. Those injen and AEM intakes that cost a few hundred bucks are a total waste of money IMO. I only did it because it was cheap.

Hmmm, given the layout of the OEM CAI, I'm having a difficult time wrapping my brain around how that might be possible. Not saying you're wrong, just that I don't understand it.

hey yeah I paid around $80 for the intake. Could not justify the price for the injen brand. I understand with the cai we are not going to get significant horsepower gains, my son just wanted to get a different engine note rather than the stock set up. Bang for buck we did pretty good.

Tell your son to hang onto all of the OEM parts; when the time comes to sell the car, if he reverts it back to bone stock the resale value of the car will be significantly higher.

yeah we've boxed all the stock parts for the airbox

I made a few changes all at once, so it could have been a combination of them or just one having more of an effect than another. I installed the CAI, wrapped it, and removed the rear plastic panels around the windshield wipers which increased airflow in the engine bay. Also, the stock intake has the filter housing in the engine bay which could increase heat soak.

The weight difference was significant which was one of my primary purposes in replacing it. If I were to purchase another 3G for some reason, I probably wouldn't bother.
