How to UNLOCK the speed limit 135mi/hr??

Damn it kid, how old are ya?!? you ARE noob... but not because you can't drive but because you still think its a great idea to go over 100 on the fwy... yes most of us've probably done that or more... but even if ya get there in <3 hrs LA-SF... what happens when anything goes wrong? blown tire (100+ not fun), another driver swerving into your lane,... cross wind @ 130+ will probably be enough to move ur TL to the next lane or off the road...
.....but if your use to doing that kinda speed then, go hit the oval Willow Springs... it'll cost 10x less then the speeding ticket and if ya crash, your chances of walking away are much better..

I have lived the last 3 years in Germany with my 07 TL Type S 6MT and have never noticed any governor or speed limiter while driving on the Autobahn. While I rarely got the car over 120 mph, the few times I did open it up, the TL easily reached speeds well above 150 mph with no problem.

I've hit 160 on my CBR and it felt ok. did about 140 in my WRX a lil scary. 115 in TL and i just didn't like how the car felt so i think 135 is good enough for the TL, just seems like a large sail at that speeds to me.

Some things need to be cleared up.
5at TL-S are limited to 133-135mph depending on who you ask.
6mt TL-S are limited to 155 according to most.
The base is supposedly limited to 155 also but I've touched 160mph on a downhill part at 3AM. Could be speedo error, who knows.
The manufacturer can't allow the car to go faster than the speed rating of the tires by law. Checking what the Tl-S 5at comes with vs the 6mt may answer some questions, I honestly don't know what the tires are rated for. Even back in the '80s cars had limiters based on thier tires. My turbo car pulled like a freight train to 124mph and then it felt like you hit the brakes. The tires were rated at 124mph. Not a coincidence.
To those people acting like a street race from 0-60 is more dangerous than going 135 down the freeway need to wake up.
I'll never test the top speed of the TL again but I want to know that it will do 155. I did have that one in a million scenario when my girlfriend was bleeding out, losing consiousness and I had to get her to the hospital in minutes. I'm not proud of what I did but there were some spots I hit 165mph in the turbo Porsche. Not likely to happen to any of us in our lifetime but it's good to know the speed is there. Of course, using the top speed just to use it is bad.

That's another point, the stock TL's suspension is no where close to being up to the task of 100+mph. Stock, it has some nasty gremlins that will show up when you press the envelope and you'll be out of control before you know what happened. With good tires and /or very high speeds it will hit the rear bumpstops in a hard corner which is instant oversteer. This is why I won't go any lower in the rear than a-spec. I experienced this enough with the stock height.

by the time your radar picks up his signal. He already has you clocked.
driving that fast is very irresponsible. Unless your at a track.

I felt more comfortable doin 185mph on my gixxer than any vehicle i have been in goin 120mph...
of course i was 18 and i dont plan on doing it anymore. wife, kid, and family are more important now
^ TL luver is right, I have passed many cops doin 130+ and they dont even budge. guess they would rather me kill myself than them "chase" me and cause me to get into an accident.

Leave it on the track if your going to be pushing anything over 85 mph or so. Too many variables in an uncontrolled environment. Sorry. The credibility of this discussion went down the toilet as soon as people started talking about how to get their car over 135mph on public roadways.

I want to know the car is capable of 150+ just in case even if I never plans on hitting it.
There are times when over 85 is acceptable. I cruised behind my friend's Z06 at 2AM at 110mph for 3 hours straight on the way to Vegas. We passed maybe 2 cars the entire way and the average mph for the entire trip was 101mph and 27mpg. IMO, this is much safer than going 90 in a 65 during rush hour. The problem comes from knowing when to use it and when not to. I generally go the speed limit or 5mph over and I drive like an old man as I'm told but there's a time and place where you can safely have a little fun.

Ok. I'll rescind some of the poignancy of my first post, since you are correct in your statement. However, I still have reservations going much over 80-85mph, especially in the dark! I'm sort of a sissy-lala when it comes down to this kind of thing.

Agreed. We did it that morning in the dark but the freeway was very well lit and I kept a good 500' of following distance from the Z06. As we came up on towns we knocked it down to the speed limit. I don't mind putting my life at risk but I couldn't live with myself if I hurt someone else.

You realize that the RSB with no other mods will make it more unstable at high speeds.

I was also curious about this but I just recently got up to 110 or so and realized that the TL is not meant to be a high speed bomber. Mine is even a TL-S and I don't think I would want to go much faster based on the fact that should I have to maneuver for one reason or another, I don't think the car would stay its course...
I miss my old M3 already...and it's only been 3 days
It would do 172 mph GPS verified at 7300rpm. Not bad for a 13 year old brick

There are times when it's necessary to go fast, as I hate cars has shown. Doing it for kicks is pointless. You want to see what your car can do, take a driving school in your own car, or take it to the track/drag strip.
My insurance is high enough as it is, I don't need threads like this giving insurance companies more reasons to jack it up higher.
On another note: If I'm doing 172 mph and I'm not on an enclosed airstrip I'm not taking a photo for memory.

I too am a firm believer in not pointlessly hauling ass on public roads.

I don't believe there is a track in America that has a long enough straight to get these cars up to 135 mph, let alone 150+ (as mentioned above, maybe a big oval)
I have been on the track at Portland International raceway, in my Audi, not the Acura, and only hit 110 mph on both the front and back straights.
And a drag strip is even shorter.
I agree that getting up to speed is a lot more fun than holding a high speed, but that cornering on the edge of traction is even more fun
Comparing the TLS to my 2005 Allroad: Allroad was confidence inspiring at all times. My TLS is scarry when you put your foot down. The front end wants to track wherever it gets the best traction. Not the kind of car you want to be pushing hard without a lot of training in at high speeds.

Meh... we all KNOW it is stupid, dangerous, and reckless (If you don't, then you probably shouldn't own a vehicle). But we all HAVE done it for whatever the reason.
For those preaching... it will fall upon deaf ears.
