How to UNLOCK the speed limit 135mi/hr??

Anyone know that? For a 07 TL type-s A/T

I tried to reach the maximum speed for my car, and I found out that it was 135 mile per hour then the ECU will cut the oil...

It's funny that the base TL's don't cutoff until 140+ I think,

Um, I don't think the ECU cuts the oil. That would result in a simultaneous and catastrophically epic destruction of your engine at 135 mph. IIRC, the cars are DBW, so the ECU just cuts the throttle.

Only way to go around it is an ECU reflash I think, but those aren't cheap.

Has nothing to do with the dealer.

The ECU cuts the fuel at 135Mph because the Type-S' 5AT is sourced from the '05-'08 RL which is also governed to 133Mph.

My first question is why? Unless you can drive on the autoban why?

I think 135 mph is more then enough. The car feels weird at 100+ already and you want it to go even faster?

I heard from a guy in a auto shop told me that I can add a "chip" to somewhere to unlock the speed limit...

The 06 six speeds don't cut out until 155+. That's a scary speed to driving the TL at, the six speeds do have stiffer suspension and sway bars, but 155 is scary going straight. ( I hear). Also the CHP use planes on hiway 5 that track you and ground units who make the stop, not a good place to be doing top speed runs. The plan spots you and times you from one mile marker to the next figuring your speed, they like to use the freeway over passes since they are easy to see when you cross over.

There's no such thing as a "chip" for our cars.

As for getting rid of the speed limiter...

And I heard from reputable shop, Jotech, that they could try to tune my car.

Sorry, but if there's no "chip" for these cars. If there is, you'll hear about its breakthrough on AZine first.

I usually drive fast on freeway 5 because that straight road is very boring to drive. I got the passport 9500i which is really helpful always remind me at least half mile away before I see the CHP.

Been tried & done, AFAIK.

I believe it's also been shown that a lot of important features like TCS & ABS are removed.

yup no chip for out cars. the only chip i can think of for a j-series is this one http://www.aemelectronics.com/series...a-j-motor-1112

however, since we all have dbw the above chip/ecu cannot be used for our application without custom speedometer, cable conversion. even with it TCS, and ABS would be lost.

Look at the KPH lines on your speedometer. Then you'll feel like you're doing 200!

Seriously before you get yourself or someone else killed I think you can live with the limiter.

Unless you're doing 135 on your daily commute, there is absolutely no reason to remove the limiter. Do you drive that fast normally? Is this a routine? I sincerely hope not. Do you know what your car would look like hitting anything @135mph?

Not to mention what YOU would look like.......you'd be in more pieces than the car. Please drive safe.

I'm not gonna lie I took my car to where it doesn't accelerate anymore once on a similar road which was straight as an arrow with 0 cars. Doesn't mean it's okay.

I believe there was a thread like this before, someone stating the governor limiting the speed around 130-140ish on the 5AT TL-S.

1 mile every two seconds is 1800 MPH but 135 should be closer to a mile every 27 seconds.

No offense, but I find it a bit strange you're giving him criticism on speeding & what he'll look like in an accident when you're one of the most active topic starters about what car you just street raced against.

Hey, you can always buy the performance chips on eBay. They add 15 HP and increase mileage, it also destroys your rev limiter so you can go 200 MPH which is our true form of the TL.

There are computer add-ons that will allow you to go past the 135 that is limited, but why go that fast on a daily commute? Granted we all want to go faster but is it worth the risk to yourself and others? The limiter is in place to keep people such as yourself from killing other folks. Have you ever driven past 135 and see or experienced what can go wrong? DO you know what to do when something does go wrong? 98% of the population doesn't and that 2 percent that does will go past 135 in something designed to go past that and that doesn't have a limiter.

y do u need to go more then 135 mph? unless ur running from the law, or running from a crazy x-girlfriend, then theres no need to go that fast. Besides it's all 0-60 times, any modern car can reach 135, it's about how long it takes to reach it, that matters.

None taken. Thought I don't reach speeds that high, if you think about it, the damage @100+ is really negligible. Meaning crashing @100 or 135mph will yield the same result so you're right.

i'm not going to argue about crashing at 100 vs 135, they aren't the same, but both are most likely going to kill you. However, the time you have to prevent that crash is much lower going 135 than 100, it's pretty low at 100 too, but lower enough at 135 to make a notable difference.
