How to fit performance parts in your car for the trip to a mechanic/jack?

I assume you guys don't have jacks in your homes so... How in the world do I fit a catback, a j-pipe, HFPCs, and lip kits in my car so that I can get them installed?

I'm speaking hypothetically here, and am also curious what my fellow members here did. I was thinking letting the j-pipe stick out the sunroof, feed the catback through the center truck/rearseat hole, and don't know about the lip kits...

I suck at Tetris

You just confused the hell out of me.

Jacks? I think most members have jacks to work on their cars.

I got my catback in pieces. Take them one at a time?

i have and 04 Accord Coupe and had my J-Pipe in my back seat. The PCDs can easily go in your trunk or front seat. You might be able to either put your passenger seat all the way forward or reclined all the way back.

Then place the catback in the back seat and the j-pipe on the front seat.

Have the large items shipped directly to their address.

Or go out and buy a jack and stands. One trip to the mechanic would pay for it.

hahaha this thread cracked me up LOL....

OP most items will fit your car....jpipe/pcds/coilovers/brake setup.....the only place where you will face an issue is catback exhaust/lip kit....

i remember buying my lip kit in a meet in KS and driving back to STL....i fed the lip kit from the trunk to the cabin and it fit well....

most vendors who sell catbacks ship it in parts downpipe/mufflers and tips/etc....so this way you can fit your exhaust in the car as well....

If you buy our XLR8 exhaust you can remove it from the box and put it in the trunk since it's comprised of multiple pieces, not a single unit.

I fit everything in my car just fine once I got rid of the boxes.
Just use your spatial sense to make it work.

i stuck my comptech catback through the hole that connects the trunk to the rear seats. the mufflers were in the trunk, mid muffler in the hole, and tubing came up to the shift knob. used lots of towels so the interior did not get damaged. the catback was all one piece, easily 8 ft long lol or at least it seemed like it

I don't think you should have any problem with j pipe, or pcd. The cat-back you will need to take it apart and open the little box in the back seat to fit it in. U can put the mufflers in the trunk and have the pipes go through the little box straight out. It will reach all the way out to the armrest so just use a towel or paper to put under it so it wont dirty your car or scratch.Slow down when cornering and you should be fine to the shop. I drove from ORL to Miami to pick up my ATLP cat-back using this method, 3 hrs drive no problem at all as for the A spec kit i installed at home so idk how that would fit.

If you have a shop doing the work why not just have it shipped to their shop originally, saves the hassle. Just have shop order for you.

I would totally do it myself if I had the time to learn it and do it on a couple others first. Because I don't have the time and the connections to learn it, my perfectionism forces me to choose the next available option of getting it done outside professionally (I can't afford to live with a missing nut here and there or knowing the fact that I tore off way more than I should have from the car).

Not everyone is as mechanically gifted as you, Swoosh .

EDIT: Oh may I add I have no tools other than a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife and a 6-headed screwdriver... Q_Q

I'm a perfectionist as well and I'd rather do the work myself and make time for projects so I have the peace of mind knowing that I did something the right way. shops can get it done faster, but how would you know if you were missing a bolt here or there after taking it to them?

acurazine is the only resource you need to do this. true some jobs require a second set of hands, but it's not necessary to be taught this stuff by a person there with you. we all share our experiences on the forum, so don't overlook all the support you have here. don't be afraid to ask questions, get your hands dirty, etc. start off small (intake, LED conversion, etc)

if you're set on taking it to a shop, make sure you go to the right place. there is much research and time that goes into picking a good shop as well. good luck

cracked me up !!!

i rather mess my car up than others dude LOL....

and am not mechanically inclined....gave me the goose bums when i saw majofo's timing belt change thread LOL....and i took her in hahaha....

but things like exhaust where you have to unbolt a bolt and bolt it back on....i think give it a try at home....whats the worst that will happen ?

you will sound like a 87 civic dx with a hole in the muffler on your way to the shop right ?

^i'm with swoosh.

it really only requires basic tools and knowledge to DIY with these bolt ons.

i knew next to nothing about this stuff when i bought my TL a few years ago...but after everything i've read and learned from this forum...i've been able to do everything myself. exhaust/pcd/jpipe/intake/puddle lights/body kit and the list goes on and on.

it's a rewarding feeling knowing that YOU did it. plus you save loot and learn as you go. take that knowledge with you and help others.

you can do it. just have the poper directions and some confidence. if you don't have the tools needed, go buy them or hook up with a friend who has the right stuff.
