Hood spacers/JDM hood tilt
Hows it going azine... just wanted to see if anyone has done this mod..I had it done on my da9 jdm b16 swap.. pretty much just had spacers on the hood hinge and tilted the rear up at an angle... it helped get hot temps out of the engine bay... any piks or diy write ups would be good... I searched but nothing came up

Look up the ultimate cooling mod, all the venting without the spacers.

1" Spacers I got on ebay for $10, more than likely not gonna keep them, but it was a fun experiment for the mdx im issues.

funny thing is that most people that do things like this have a stock engine lol but when i say something like this I'm sure somebody will respond with "my engine is not stock it has an aftermarket intake and exhaust"

which will bog down the engine.
so, the dude was thinking correctly when he wanted to vent the hood to get rid of all that hot air.
however, tilting the hood looks ghey.
like, the TL got into an accident or something and the hood doesnt line up.
if the OP wants to vent the hot air, he can do the Ultimate cooling mod, which creates holes in the windshield cowl to vent hot air.
or ,
he could add functional vents to the hood.
these two options look better(subjective) than the tilted hood.

Be creative, I haven't seen a single TL with a custom hood yet with custom vents... If you're going to do it, don't use the heavy hood.

^the hood isnt that heavy.
and the Houston crew has a TL with M3 hood vents.
we're creative and innovative.
more people need to be creative!!
some one in our crew was also thinking of doing the jaguars supercharged hood vents.
and some of the aston martin hood vents are aesthetically pleasing.
get creative guys

Lol so I knew people would have some stupid ass comments to leave and yes one of the posters pretty cleared it up.. I was thinking about this instead of hacking up the hood vent area I dont need it to look jdm or whatever I was thinking about it having purpose... displacing the heat that our cars seem to make alot thank you guys for the input though

First it looks extremely stupid on a tl.... Second nothing about raising the hood makes it JDM...The ONLY practical purpose this serves is on drift specific cars. We all know that does not pertain to us with our fwd... I had this done to my Silvia but ONLY because it was a race car designs and built specifically to drift. The ONLY purpose it serves is to help cool the engine when the car is sideways and the radiator is not getting air flow so the air flows over the top of the engine and cools it. Please stop thinking that being a follower makes u JDM cuz u r not

last night i decided to leave my hood unlocked, not completely open but just popped up and drove around to see if this would maybe make a difference in anyway
i feel like im gaining power and the throttle feels stronger in a way
is this because my intake is set up as short ram?
engine feels way cooler than it usually feels
how bad do you think im effecting the aero dynamics?
it srsly feels like the car pulls way stronger

You didnt gain power; just reduced the sluggish feel from the heat soak.
Uh duh its going to feel cooler because you have it pop open and its cooler at night.
It affects your areodynamics. You want to reduce and cut through air flow, but what you did was diverted the flow and probably restricted or delay it due to the firewall and cowl and not to mention depending on speed that hood could have pop loose and slam straight into your windshield![No No](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/nono.gif)
I am no expert so its jmo, common sense, and the little information I know about general areodynamics principals. I am sure someone with better insights on areodynamics could correct me and/or add on.

and i dont think it would cause the hood to pop off, and if it does it would just fly off like gta right?

lol. Drove 20 min hood propped and it felt the same as the hood closed and you were driving for only 8 mins.
It's going to be the same propped or closed.. LOL!

Same here, because it doesnt do shit for cooling the engine. Anyone that has done this experiment by using spacers alone have found that the operating temperature increases, not decrease like most think it would. I'm going to post a quote from nasioc forums to give you an idea of how it works.
"At highway speeds (40MPH+) the air goes into the engine compartment and out the bottom of engine bay pressurizing engine compartment a bit and that is not what you want... Having a vent on top of the hood just behind the rad works the best along WITH the hood spacers to lower under hood air pressure and allow more air IN and through the front, which is what you want"
Essentially the flow of air reverses on your ass at around 35+mph. So you'll see it working as you think it would/should at the stop light, but not once you get moving.
As for safety concerns, here's another quote from the nasioc forums
"the big issue with raising the hood is that it will become a guillotine during a front end collision. open your hood and look at the hinges. you will see interlocking hooks on the hinge and the hood. this keeps the bolts from sheering and the hood being pushed threw the windshield and into you noggin. raising the hood will keep these hooks from interlocking and many times people use low grade longer bolts along with the spacers causing a HUGE safety issue."
My friends and I tried this back in high school. Did not work, never thought twice again about the mod. Hope this helps some of you.

I've been thinking about doing this eventually to my TL when it warrants such a mod.
I'm thinking of doing it , clean & unique.
Unlike my turbo built civic, which I have the down pipe exiting through my carbon fiber hood...........
