Home made intake
I bought my TL-S used and the previous owner installed a shoddy home made intake. I hear that installing a CAI or SRI are not worth the money for the small gains and the OEM intake is a good design and I'm better off spending the money on another mod ( like a pipe.) So here's my question. There is no way I'm keeping this intake in my car, should I spend the money on replacing the OEM or should I go aftermarket since the OEM is already gone?

I'm going to take a picture and post them for reference. It's just very poorly made. He glued together maybe 70 dollars worth of spectra parts from autozone.

I don't mind spending 200 to 300 on a new intake. I'm mostly wondering if I should replace the OEM ( with or without the resonator) or if I should get something like the AEM v2 or the secret weapon SRI.

A CAI probably only gets a few HP, but they do sound nice. I've got no regrets spending ~$170 on mine.

my 3G came with a AEM CAI. At first I wasnt too impressed when the prev owner popped the hood.
but after cleaning the dryflow filter I'm happy with it. Super easy and I dont have to worry about buying any air filters. B2 maintenance is a piece of cake!

Thanks for the replies so far. I dont see why pics are needed in order to suggest going with a stock or aftermarket intake... I have these two pictures. I'll add more tomorrow with it uninstalled, showing in detail how bad it is.

For Sale and/or Want To Buy belongs in the Black Market, so if you've got parts to sell post 'em there, not here.

$30k car, and that thing gets put on! Anything would look better than that; Hp gains are minimal at best so it really doesn't matter what brand you go with. Search and you'll find tons of topics on AEM V2, Injen, K&B Typhoon, Takeda, DC Sports...ect.

wow. that looks nasty. well i didnt buy a name brand but i got a cai from an ebay seller and when i picked it up he pulled ot the measurements in his laptop and i saw the whole thing being made with a cool machine in like 10 minutes, then he gor a brand new filter and that is what i got, he even offered to install it at no charge but i wasnt driving my car, a buddy took me there. i know a lot of people talk s**t about ebay intakes and all that but i really felt this guy knew what he was doing and i have been running that thing for over a year with no issues. 300+ dollars vs. 40$ of course i went for the ebay one, so OP if you dont care about the brand go for this ebay guy if interested i can try to find the seller in my item history on ebay, but if you also rather pay 300+ bucks for a brand name sticker on a tube that does the same as the ebay one please disregard my advise. oh and by the way my intake looks nothing like the sig saw cuts on that thing...lol

ouch. yeh that intake mod looks horrible. Look at the black market. some people should be selling intakes for like under 200 and they are brand name(good quality pipe+warranty+CARB legal sticker - u will need that depending on your state or you will get a ticket) but overall most intakes are all the same and provide barely any gains but different sounds.

Wow...that is a half-assed attempt at an intake. Personal opinion is to go with the AEM V2, I have one on my car and I love it. I will tell you it's probably less hassle to just get an aftermarket intake rather than trying to install an OEM one...based on taking out the stock one before (can be a PITA). ecsmotorsports.com has good prices on the V2 also

If you really want you can spend 250-300 for a AEM or Injen but they have cheaper ones like DC sport intakes for about 160. save yourself that extra hundred or so and go invest that into another part of your car

I've looked into the V2 but the AEM website says that it does not fit the 07 TL-S. Am I looking at the wrong one?

Is anyone familiar with this the typhoon intake from k&n, the one that's a cai but can be converted to a sri?

Not seeing a huge issue with that, i know its not a cold air and a short ram is pointless but its not the autozone cheap-o. Just the filter is. They sell these things all over ebay. I do admit the vacuum plugs are a little ghetto but hey it worked.
