Has anyone successfully converted their 3G AT TL to a 6MT?

im curious to know if there is anyone who has done this conversion to their AT TL? is this a mod that anyone is even willing to do to their once 40,000 dollar TL? i know its quite a hack job but would it be worth doing?

From my knowledge no one has done this.. From a financial aspect, it makes no sense..

You can take your car to the dealer and do a simple trade..

I'm close to doing it... my mechanic has done it on his 2nd gen TL while dropping an MDX motor and supercharging it. lol, we're gonna discuss it thoroughly.

I would say just trade it in, atleast when you trade it in you will get the brembo brakes and a larger rear sway bar, you will probably spend the same amount of money and have and get more then just a 6-speed

I was in that exact same situation a couple months ago...I had a '04 TL AT and it ended I trade the car at the dealer for a MT and a couple of thousands less in the bank...I mean like 4-5 g's here. At the end is it worth it?...well I love performance and I knew the AT was eating all the potential of the J32..the difference between the AT and MT is almost a full second in a quarter mile race...

i was just curious because i happen to have a used 3G TL 6MT tranny sitting in my garage. i have absolutely no need for it and was going to throw it away since i figured no one in their right mind would be willing to do such a swap or pay the money for it... hmm...perhaps i should just hold onto it. i dunno. anyways, thanks for the insight guys!

Forget the two power adders. Build it right, run a larger blower and push 15psi for the same power you would have with 8lbs+ nitrous. Much easier to tune and safer that way. Besides, you don't want methanol and nitrous together.

I plan on keeping the same blower....... and just running build internals (rods+pistons) with 8lbs..... Your way works too..... lets see what the future holds...

When you are eligible to do so (60 days on the forum and 30 acceptable posts) I would throw it up in F/S in the Black Market in the off topic part of the forum. You never know.

Holy shit....4-5k more for the same year?? Tell me your 5AT didn't have nav and had a ton more miles than the 6MT. Otherwise, I would have expected them to just make a few bucks off the transaction, knowing they could sell your 5AT much more easily than the 6MT.

he did my suspension and ive never seen anybody do it so smooth. If he can do it then i would really consider it aswell. I live about 10 minutes away from his shop.

maybe a type s transmission.

The 6MT cars are more than just a transmission difference. Suspension is tuned tighter (closer to Type-S), and you get the Brembos, too.

Overall, it makes no sense financially, since the desired model exists on the open market. I mean, I did an auto-to-manual conversion in my 1980 Z28, but I went from a 3spd auto to a 6spd manual- there was lots to be gained (8mpg highway, to be exact), not to mention the combo never existed from the factory.

Forgot to mention that my '04 AT had over 95000 miles, my '04 MT have 50000 miles. Depends on the overall condition as well, I had to take out 4g's for the trade and I accepted it. MT TL's are rare in Canada...

All I can say now, performance wise, the AT and MT are in a different league. For me, with the MT, its perfect now.
