Has ANYONE ever successfully installed an AEM FIC in their '04 TL?
This is getting annoying and extremely stupid. no matter what i try i cannot get my FIC to work. i followed the instructions to the point and it was only able to run the car n feel some kinda power and gain around the block and that was it.
the instructions tell u to add a resistor in the o2 circuit, which later on i found out it did not work as specified in the instructions and sends a CEL with NO o2 signal bank1 and bank2, i bypassed that option.
the next thing was the crank sensor. we have two signals going to the ecu from the sensor. the instructions did not specified which signal to intercept. later on i figured out it was signal A.
then the MAP sensor was also giving a CEL with intermittent voltage coming from the sensor. i had to bypass that too.
after i fixed all this crap. the car started and idle and i was able to take it around the block after doing all the calibrations, adjusting fuel maps, etc.
the next morning when i started up my car and got all cylinder misfiring and random misfire codes. i unhooked the battery, reset the ecu, clear the codes, reloaded new maps, then it run ok for about 5 mins. when i tried going WOT the CEL started flashing. all the same codes came back PLUS "Camshaft position Sensor "A" circuit intermittent" code came up.
so last night i went to aempower.com and read that AEM stated that they have had issues with many cars giving engine misfiring when intercepting the CAM or CRK sensors. so this morning i removed the CAM sensor wiring and left it as factory, straight to the ecu, reset everything again. started the car and it was still misfiring. so i went ahead and did the same thing with the CRK sensor circuit. reset everything, clear codes and started the car up and the car ran even worse.
i ended up plugging the comptech ACM back in and the car runs great now, except for when i try to go WOT and sometimes it backfires like crazy but this is bcuz i have RDX injectors that are not calibrated and im running the stock maps.
with all this being said. wth didnt AEM put an instruction together just for the ACURA instead of making the instructions universal to all the cars this FIC can be installed on.

That's interesting. As I said before, the person that has mine has sent his harness to Paul and initially is being told that the fly connectors are bad. Didn't mention anything about my rewiring for the 06 to 04 differences.
When I pulled my FIC it was working fine and has been on the shelf for about a year. I used it for maybe 1000 miles so having the connectors go bad surprises me but they were of horrible quality from the start.
If I hear back from tloveit!, I will let you know.
As far as specific instructions, no, there isn't any since this is a universal product.
EDIT:
BERT, I see you lurking. You had that config!
EDIT2:
This is going to be a stupid question and please take no offense, but do you have the vacuum/boost line connected to the FIC?

it seems like there is no signal going to coil number #4, i read of other products in their webpage requiring firmware updates to get coil #4 to work but our part number was not listed. idk what else to do. last week when i called aem the guy wasnt very helpful and he seemed in a bad mood, idk if i wanna deal with them again over the phone.

HERE KN_TL, this is a known issue with AEM that they cannot figure out.
http://forum.aempower.com/forum/inde...20515.120.html
my next step is to check if the voltage the stock ecu produces over 5v at any giving time. if so then this FIC is not good for the 04-05 TLs and they need to upgrade the hardware so that the FIC can send out a voltage higher than 5v to the ecu when it is required.
i will get to the bottom of this! LOL

There are at least 4 of us here that ran the FIC with no problems. The 3 turbo's that J&R delivered were FIC based and another with an SC also ran it. I am sure there are more.
All 4 have or are going with the new MS3. Two of us were 06's, one an 05 (SC) and I think the other was an 04.
So this has been done, just not sure why you and the person I sold mine to is having issues.

I got a AEM FIC with a boomslang harness siting on my shelf. Bought it for my 04 accord but decided to let it ride on the stock ecu.

so a little update: the voltage coming from the ecu to the crank sensor is always around 2.48-2.51v. so there is no issue with the voltage signals.
i ended up flashing the FIC completely and reloading a new firmware, then i loaded the new calibration software, set everything up again. plug the FIC and started the car right up. no misfire!, drove it for about 15min doing pulls n every now n then i would get the CEL flashing for less than 2 seconds n it would go again.
i drove back home, took a shower, went to start the car and it started misfiring right away set the CEL and it was to where it was before. i called AEM n they asked me to do some logging and email it to them. so i will be doing it this morning.
btw im in OHIO.
