Greddy EvoII w/ different setups to lessen drone/noise
Bold is for the lazy people that don't want to read my entire post.
I got an issue I was hoping you guys could shed some light on. I know its been discussed before but searching AZ via Google isn't that helpful.
Anyway, I've been in the market for a catback exhaust for awhile now and out of all the ones out there, I really like the Greddy EvoII's appearance. I've seen/heard it on a TSX before and it was pretty damn loud! I've seen the YouTube clips and sound bytes too. I've also explored a custom catback but purchasing mufflers/tips on their own is already about $500.
Now, I've also read that the installation of the J pipe and test pipe reduce the drone at idle. I've also read up on the Aero AR25 resonator that everyone is talking about. Would this replace my test pipe? Does it reduce the drone at idle? Will this setup still be insanely loud at low RPMs? Is the EvoII really raspy? Do car alarms go off when you start the engine? Haha
Also, I've read that after "break in", the EvoII gets "quieter".... approximately how many miles does this take?
These are the different possible setups I can do:
1. Jshift J pipe, Jshift test pipe, Greddy EvoII
2. Jshift J pipe, Aero AR25, Greddy EvoII
3. Jshift precat deletes, Jshift J pipe, Jshift test pipe, Greddy EvoII
4. Jshift precat deletes, Jshift J pipe, Aero AR25, Greddy EvoII
It would be helpful if you guys could use the above combinations and rate the audible noise inside the cabin on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the loudest. Please make your scale relative to each other. For example: #1, IDLE 4, LOW RPM 7, 4k+ 8, WOT 10
Maybe a template you guys can copy and paste:
IDLE, LOW RPM, 4K+RPM, WOT

ATLP J-pipe + GReddy Evo II
Idle: 4
< 2.5k: 4
2.5k-3k: 7
> 3k: 5/6
WOT: 9, and quite intoxicating.
As you can tell, cruising down the interstate isn't the quietest thing in the world. Also keep in mind that with WOT, you get a lot of intake noise...man, WOT sounds soooooo good

the drone at cruising range is a BOMB...
OPTION 4... that is the ideal setup by far, it is similar to what I am running except I am single exit, NO RASP, minimal drone at the BOMB range, I can hold a conversation with the windows down, does it set car alarms off, if I tap the gas near a car yes, but if I am just cruising by no....
OPTION 3 - SUNNY201, I installed this entire setup on his car, from the outside, no audible rasp, does it sound like a turbo skyline, HELL YEA minus the BOV... is it intoxicating yes, does it drone yes, do I suggest an automatic car do this setup, I personally wouldn't... but wide open it is intoxicating aswell

Hmmm alright.
Its really a 7 at 2.5-3KRPMs?? You may have just burst my bubble.
Well, I'll most likely have everything in #4 except the catback so... unless theres any reason to remove any of those components, I'd go with #4. I guess I could always install it and hear for myself. Then sell it if its too loud... PITA though

I did the ATLP J-pipe and the Aero Resonator at the same time it it really reduced the drone. Actually it moved the drone towards the trunk and not directly below the cabin. It sounds really good in my opinion now. It was really loud prior to that though, I will honestly add another resonator in the next year to quiet it down alittle more.

I'm glad you had this thread. I am SO undecided on which catback. I'm waiting on ATLP, but time is getting too long. I love the GREDDY but drone I don't need. And the XLR8 is also an option. Anybody with the XLR8 can give us some feedback?

Yo did you see my other thread? I think I'm just gonna go custom. $850 shipped for the Evo2 is an sweet deal but its wayy too loud.
Maybe when I gather all my shit together, I can just buy double and make two. Then you can drive over to IL again and install it when I get mine done. Haha

I have the Greddy, its not that loud lmao. Why get a exhaust at all if you don't want to drone, or it to be loud. Might as well leave it stock. Honestly the drone isn't even that bad and it gets less after break in time. Before actually deciding I think you should either drive a TL with the Greddy or ride in a TL with the Greddy before making your decision. I really wouldn't rely on youtube for a proper listening. But that is just my

Ahhh didn't even look to see where you where from lol. Never heard it on a TSX but more than likely is probably pretty loud. I thought there where a few members on here that had the Greddy that lived in that area guess not. Come down to STL and you can hear it haha. Honestly its a lil on the loud side but after break in period it's really not that loud anymore, and the drone isn't that bad to where its unberable to drive. Get the Greddy and just do the Aero25 resonator everyone who has done that said the drone is damn near quiet than without it.

I heard it in a TSX, and it's a completely different sound (4 vs. 6). godfather2 can offer his thoughts on this, as well. It sounds better with the V6.
As for loud, it's a matter of relativity. Is it louder than stock? Yes. Is it too loud? No. It's nowhere near as loud as the Mustangs and trucks in my neighborhood.

I agree with Jay, I don't think it's that bad, but maybe I'm just used to it...loudness/raspiness/drone/tone is all very subjective.
You have to hear it for yourself IMO
...come down to STL, Jay and I will give you a ride

I never said their wasn't any drone.... I just implied that imo it wasn't that bad and overall break in time the drone doesn't seem to be that loud inside the cabin. Sure it is there but its not that bad. The simple aero 25 resonator would fix if not fix it well enough to where the drone would be significantlly reduced. For everyone wanting to get a exhaust why even bother switching out the stock exhaust for anything? No matter what exhaust you get whether it be prebuilt manufacutured exhaust, or custom you are going to have drone.
Maybe not as bad but you are still going to have it. Just the price you pay for one modding a car ,and two having parts on the car that are not stock from the factory. I also just have the Greddy catback exhaust. I don't have the j-pipe, test pipe, or pre cat deletes. So as far as what the drone is with those I am ignorant to say the drone is any louder or any different. But riding in another members car who has the j-pipe, test pipe and the same exhaust drone was not significantly louder to where I noticed it.

That doesn't help me out too much in IL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Evo2 from heeltoe is $850 shipped. Jump on that if thats what you want. Cheaper to go custom but I guess as long as you're under $1000, you're ok. Money doesn't seem to be an issue with you, Mr. CF-engine-cover-that-costs-the-same-as-my-entire-catback!!
