Got My Electric Exhaust Cutout!!
Hey guy just got my electric exhaust cutout done today here some pic
I have really test the car yet cause is kind of late and is way too loud so I donno how is the performance but is very loud but some of you guy would not like the sound(1K ~ 3K Rpm) cause I dont really like it either but after 3K Rpm that is sound like a M3 with magnaflow
Here is some picture
didnt take it too well hope you guy dont mind
I was planning to put the cutout b4 the 3rd cat but after tested is damn slow(no back pressure at all) so right now is behind the 3rd cat
this is a picture im wiring the wire

I put mine behind the resonator where the 3rd muffler used to be. I also have the magnaflow resonator which I think helps make it a bit quieter and also sound nicer.
With the cutout open, you can really feel the lost of low end torque, especailly when you are still N/A, but if you step on it, you will find the RPM going up faster in the higher range. I usually keep mine closed or 3/4 closed for city driving and open it up on the track.

This is basically an exhaust cutout that has an electronic controlled butterfly. When the butterfly opens, exhaust gas by passes the muffler and thus exit the exhaust at a higher flow.
Since the cutout is adjustable, this means the loudess of the exhaust is adjustable as well.
People have claim to see up to 30hp increase on a turbocharged or supercharged vehicle (Not on the TL). I will dyno my TL soon to see what's the power increase is like.

Well a easy way to explain is their is a stright pipe, and u can adjust it .
why i want to do a cutout instead of a whole exhaust systems is cause I want to keep it quiet sometime

Think is should be fine after i got my pully, just open it after 2500-3000RPM

please post your results...
I've never seen a forced induction engine realize any significant power gains from exhaust mods.
The only benefit I've seen is quicker spool up time and reduced turbo lag.
This thing looks like a noise maker that reduces torque... Not sure why you'd want it.

Your engine cover always looks real nice in the pictures..wonder what it looks like in person..anyways
nicely done but I would only see or think to see these on highly modded cars like for forced induction and big blocks. open for racing/ closed for emissions

Yea the exhaust dose look like crap need to paint it all black later.
Smog check? just close it, just like a stock exhaust it will have little leak but I think is should be ok if no just get a plate and cover the cutout area

Yes it's ugly but that's how your stock exhaust looks like...lol
As for smog, just close it or install a cap. Can be done in 10min.
Performance wise, the exhaust cutout is exactly the same as any other exhaust mod out there even including the comptech exhaust, it's pretty much useless on N/A TL. Maybe a little bit of HP increase in the top end, but nothing spectacular.
As for sound, the exhaust cutout does allow you to adjust the loudless of your exhaust. The sound will also be affected depending on where you install the exhaust cutout.
Lastly, everyone is always trying to make the exhaust as free flow as possible, the exhaust cutout is pretty much as free flow as you can get but still retain the factory look. It will also allow you to pass emission. Of course, a free flow exhaust does not always increase performance. Try installing a 3" straight pipe exhaust on a stock TL and you will hate it because you won't have any low end torque.
The exhaust cutout allows you to adjust it on the fly which I believe is the best of both world. When you want it loud, it will be loud. When you want it to be quiet like stock, it's just a press of the button. And for the people who have the supercharger, it does increase performance. Lastly, the exhaust cutout is CHEAP. What can you beat that?
