FYI J-Pipe owners
I searched no dice if a repost my bizzzad.
Soooo I was changing my 710 today and while I was under my car I gave it the quick once over just to make sure things were kosher. I noticed well yeah that my j-pipe is scratched LOL but on one side there was black markings on it.
Staring at it for a while I noticed that there is some black plastic.....lets call it a protective cover but apparently its flush with my ATLP J-pipe. Well im far from a genius but heat and plastic never is a good thing.
I trusted my installer because he has done this install many many times and If it were dangerous im sure he would have mentioned it.
Im just wondering if anybody has noticed this or even knows there is a possible fire hazard under the car. Im in Virginia and the weather is pretty mild so i cant imagine any Southern state owners with heat being in traffic.
So without hesitation I grabbed a steak knife and hacked a strip off. Problem solved.
Sorry for the camera pics but they are clear just not big.

was that completely shielding the j-pipe before you hacked it? Either I didn't have that or didn't re-install it. I still have a plastic shield just to the left under the driver's seat but it isn't making contact and I don't have any melted goo on my pipe.

My j-pipe is nowhere near any of the underbody plastic panels. Funny thing is, I don't see how anyone could install the j-pipe incorrectly, either. Maybe the plastic panel was put back in the wrong place?

well it wasn't shielding as much as just resting against. If that answers your question.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing too about how can it be installed incorrectly. I also dont remember that panel being taken off or moved during the install but I could be wrong.

C'mon bro you can say I did the install ... And no I don't recall the plastic cover 2" away being an issue... Now if you cover was against the jpipe that's a different story... Because I've never seen that
culd be jpipe was bent over due to bottom out
But um glad you noticed tho, but I doubt it would cause a fire risk, more like the plastic would just melt right on to the pipe similar to what you just had
Ps. Before anyone panics, the cover he speaks of is the one bellow the trans... Not a part of the lower diffuser or the bumper

So yeah first 3 pics show that before I hacked it off it was touching flush against the pipe. The pipe is not bent at all. Its just a slight scrape and I heard it when I did it.
I hope i didnt cause a panic just double check and see.
