Full exhaust combo

Hi, I am relatively new and have just fallen for tuning my car even if it isnt that fast. but know it has potential and letting it show definately makes me happy.

anyway I was wondering on what you alls take would be if I got the

ATLP race pipe
ATLP v2 Jpipe
ATLP base catback

and should i delete the 3rd cat? im not sure what this means i think it means to take off the third cat converter cause ive been reading a little. but arent i replacing it with the race pipe?

what would be my hp gain? i current run low slow 16s and would want that to change.

and my friend thinks i should get new headers but i dont ever see much of that on the forums

pretty sure you can't change headers in 3g TL's

i'm in a similar dilemma. i think i'm doing the comptech exhaust system + Jpipe. and that'll be it all. when you remove the pre cats it doesnt pass smog and you replace it with race pipes as I seemed to have read. please someone correct me if i'm wrong.

yeah other inputs would be nice

so what else could i do for a better hp gain along with what im doing?

AckTL05 11-07-2009 03:11 AM

our cars are CARB(california air restriction board)..Depending on what state you are from, I am from NJ you will be fine with removing the third cat. You can replace them with a high flowing cat as well. The J pipe is basically headers for our car. It goes pre-cats to J pipe to third cat to catback. All depends what sound you want and what you want to do with your car. I am S.C and dont want precats becuase it will lower boost. ATLP and XLR8 J pipes are the best, I have XLR8 with a rv-6 third cat delete and a comptech catback. If you just going to do bolt ons get intake/j pipe/third cat/catback/UR pulley( I have a new one for sale) it is 6 pounds lighter then stock and will free up H.P. and you will see a change in reving quicker. All those mods are fairly easy to do and gain MOST h.p. via dollar. Other then that you can go all out and get a S.C. or Turbo.

johnjohn1206 11-07-2009 02:36 PM

whats the difference in the ur pulley? does it help add any power with the setup im getting?
and instead of doing a cat delete im just going to add the race pipe
its only like 100$

johnjohn1206 11-07-2009 03:39 PM

by the way im interested so hit me up

TheChamp531 11-07-2009 04:09 PM

Our version of "headers" are the pre-cat deletes.

UR pulley will not increase HP, but "free" up 7-9 HP.

J-pipe is the best performance upgrade (XLR8 one especially)

Almost any catback will show same gains.

Low 16's = you're doing something wrong. Stock 5AT goes high 14's or low 15's.

johnjohn1206 11-07-2009 09:55 PM

then what is better? a pre cat delete or race pipe?
and what does free up mean?
my launch is very bad im probably going to go to the track again and work on it

AckTL05 11-07-2009 11:21 PM

free up means that our stock pulley is 8 pounds? the UR one is one pound? so turning 8 pounds is a lot harder to start then one pound...Hence why it revs quicker. Which is why it makes the engine work a lot easier which "frees up HP" which is almost like gaining HP/speed. Your basically just recovering lost HP, I have one for sale if you would like, brand new stock diameter.

johnjohn1206 11-08-2009 09:38 AM

ah i see thanks for the explanation. what brand?price? ive been talking to this other guy

and how does it work well with the full exhuast im getting?

TL|GTX 11-08-2009 11:23 AM

wow low 16's that a 4cyl tsx. But ya u should get atlp j-pipe gives u 1 of the most gains next to pre-cat deletes, and atlp catback, or greddy evoII catback.

if your going to do that then do the 3rd cat delete. you will still pass emissions test as long as you leave the precats alone. 3rd cat is inbetween the jpipe and catback.

johnjohn1206 11-08-2009 10:32 PM

what about me? with my setup should i be doing the delete or race pipe?

your setup looks fine. 3rd cat delete is replacing the 3rd cat with a test pipe or race pipe / straight pipe.

i would start with a j pipe and third cat delete and see how much of a gain you get.

and if u want to contact me about that pulley xiomaro@gmail.com

how does changing the precats change emissions? i'd imagine removing-3rd-cat/racepipe/testpipe would fail emissions.

if i get the comptech system doesn't that include a more efficient 3rd cat anyways? that's what most of the pictures look like?

type-s'er 11-16-2009 11:59 PM

you'll probably be looking at a 20-25 whp top end gain with the j-pipe, race pipe, and cat-back
and to clarify, "third cat delete" is replacing your catalytic converter (or third cat) with a race pipe, which is a straight pipe, or test pipe, which is a slightly resonated pipe (the pipe has a larger diameter than race pipe)
you could also replace your stock cat with a high-flow cat from Rv6 but that would be more costly and provide less gains.
