Exhaust install without lift?
 

I have a full ATLP system to install (J-Pipe, Race Pipe and Cat-Back). My original plan was to use a friend's lift to do the install but he currently has a project car on it that's in the middle of a bunch of work so the lift won't be available for awhile. So, not wanting to wait much longer, and not wanting to pay for having something installed that I can do myself, I was wondering if anybody has installed these parts using jack stands.

I realize this will make things more difficult in general, but would it be a bad idea? Worst case is I wait a couple months and use the lift, but like most of you know, having parts just waiting to get installed is torture!

I installed my j-pipe, race pipe, and catback all by myself using a jack and jackstands.

Wear gloves or else you'll get cut, and expect it to take you about 3 hours for everything.

I have done many installs with no lift. its easy.

working on a car with jack stands is so fun. Too bad you didn't live closer I would have helped out.

Is thier no welding? Like installing those falenges or something?

No there are no welds just little room to work with and if you have a breaker bar it would help you as well.

How hard are the deletes to install?, and If I am installing just the precats/j-pipe/3rd cat delete and no catback, does that work out just fine with the stock exhaust? do they just bolt together? or...? thanks

Thanks for the input guys. Always good to get the info from people who have done the work.

As for the install. Are there any little tricks or tips? Unless I'm missing something, it seems pretty straight forward, just bolting the pieces together (with the supplied gaskets). I have done a decent amount of work on cars/trucks but this will be the first time really doing anything with the exhaust.

The nuts holding the j-pipe to the precats are a PITA to remove, as well as the nuts around the 3rd cat. You might not be able to do them by hand with only a wrench (I wasn't).

Everything else is pretty straightforward.

The bolts were what I was worried about. Not being able to use my friend's garage, and lift, also means no air tools. Think I'd be able to do it with hand tools if I hit the bolts with some penetrating oil ahead of time and use a breaker bar? The last thing I want to happen is have half of the stock system off and not be able to get the rest off.

Also, any need to put loctite on the new bolts or are they alright without it?

A breaker bar should be able to do it. Loctite isn't really necessary. I didn't use it and haven't had any problems, and all my bolts were just hand-tightened.

go to home depot and buy sum 4x4 wood and drive ur car over that and get underneath

Thats where a breaker bar/t-handle comes in handy. Craftsman 15" did the trick, nothing fancy, just need some leverage.
