so bringing this thread back to life....
here is what am using:
Samsung Galaxy Note to a Screen in my dash
OBDII adapter plugged in
Torque pro app
Here is a shot of the screen from this morning's drive....this is all CITY driving, speed limit is 45 and i was doing around 55-60....
I have attached the complete log (.csv - opens with excel) as a zip file if anyone is interested....I saw am not logging the Engine Rpm and added that PID to log....will have another file tomorrow morning....
as you can see from the Absolute Throttle Position my foot was off the gas....the instant MPG will confirm the same....
in the pic you can see engine rpm but in the logs its missing which has been added

^^^ Yes....I was looking into that when i had my iphone....guess you didnt see the first post....
the only thing is its very bloody expensive...
the app is 40+ taxes and the PLX system is 150 + Shipping....so you are looking at around 200 bucks....
this bluetooth device was 20 shipped and the app was $4.95....plus you can customize gauges in this app and log which i dont think the Rev offers....i think dashcommand supports that and is another 10 bucks...

Ahhh. So I'd be better off getting a cheap Android tablet. I looked at the compliant scanners and saw they were so expensive...

I'm sure I can find an Android tablet for ~$150-$200.
Why does it need a data plan?
Do I need to read and not scan this thread again?

^There seems to be a lot of companies that use the same chip for the scanner. But that's where the similarities end.
Some are much faster then others. At least that's what I've read. That's the difference between a $20 adapter and say the $100 Kiwi.
Not saying a $20 adapter is bad (I'll probably order that ELM327). Just there are differences.
Anil: I just put in a bid on an HP Touchpad.

i like how it is not as am mainly using it for the "cool" factor and logging....while driving you barely see the gauges....i have it setup to the OS starts logging as i start my car and stops when i turn it off....and if the car doesnt start back up in 10 minutes (if you stop for gas) it emails me the logs which i just peruse at my leisure
EDIT: NOT STARTING A GB !!!
but if you guys want, i can talk to the vendor and see if he can setup something for us folks....we might need couple people who are willing to order but everyone might be able to save around 10 odd bucks

Reviving an old thread...
Anyone know if the scangauge (mentioned earlier on) or any other solution can output transmission fluid temperature? I have a 2006 TL, which i'm assuming does NOT use the CAN protocol (my understanding is that 2007 _may_ use it, and 2008 it was required), and most gauges that put out trans temp seem to do so using that protocol.

2006 TL does not use CAN. It's ISO9141, but something like trans temp is not a generic OBD2 parameter, so the device would have to support enhanced diagnostics. I'm assuming you have an automatic? Because there is no temp sensor on the manual trans, so you can never get trans temp through diagnostics.
