Dynomax 24215 vs. 24234 ...what's the difference?

This may fall under the heading of "the only stupid question is one that goes unasked", but...

I'm thinking of adding a 12-inch resonator & don't know if there's any differences between the two Dynomax units that seem to be the most common ones I see around here. I have an 07 TL-S -- does it matter which one?

Anyone care to offer an opinion on what to expect? Right now I have AEM V2; XLR8 j-pipe; mid-muffler deleted, other than that stock. I'm pretty pleased with both the sound & power improvements from this set up. Its given me what I was wanting short of dropping $1k + on an exhaust. I still have the stock resonator in place & from what I've researched here opinions on jumping to a Dynomax unit seem to vary. Some say it was a waste of time/money & couldn't tell any difference at all. Some say it deepened the growl nicely. Despite my best attempts to tell myself "no more modding", well, y'all know what happens when that bug bites. I know there won't be any measurable power gains, but if I can get a bit nicer sound out the back for fifty bucks, ...hey,...what's there to argue about? Inputs?

thx

The dynomax 24215 and 24234 are both 12" long. The only difference is in the input and output tube sizing. The 24234 has 2.25" input and output pipe which is the same as your exhaust pipe in your car. The 24215 has 2.5" input and output pipe which is larger than your exhaust piping. This allows this muffler to slide over your existing pipe and then be welded or clamped. Both do the job but in my research I find that the 24215 is used more than the 24234. I just got my 24215 yesterday and will be installing it very soon.

Makes sense, thanks for the clarification. So essentially the 24215 should just make install a bit more simple. Cool.
Got any thoughts on whether or not it truly makes any noticeable difference in sound?

i just got the 24215 installed today at the local muffler shop but still have the mid muffler in. The sound is noticeably louder and deeper. I am very happy with the sound and cant wait to delete the mid muffler which will make it even louder.

Tell you what, brudda, dropping that mid-muffler turd is going to make you happier than a 6 year old on Christmas morning. That is the first mod I ever did to mine (& granted, I have the 3.5 so maybe it moves a slightly higher volume of air) and even with everything else completely off-the-showroom floor stock the difference was absolutely wonderful.

Thanks for this. Seeing as the 24215 can be had just about anywhere on the web for $50'ish, & I'm guessing my shop will slap it in for another $30 or $40...this one's and easy decision. sweet

24234 - 24215 = 19

The difference is 19.

You're welcome

One last question about install. If I understand correctly the stock resonator is 18 inches long the 24215 is 12 inches, thus leaving an unaccounted for 4 inch gap in the install? Does this add'l length require a separate weld of a 4-inch piece of straight pipe in order to make the move to the 24215? Is that how the install has to go?

Ah, perfect. This answers the question, thanks. Since the resonator is shorter a 4-inch piece of straight pipe does have to be welded into place in order to go with the 24215. Based on your testimony I'm going to pick on up. thx

You wont be disappointed. The sound is so nice and deep just make sure you get rid of the mid muffler it makes a huge difference. Enjoy and glad I was able to help.

Man o' man were you ever right. Had the 24215 put in on Wednesday (so 4 days ago as of this writing) and, wow. All I can say is this mod is going to DESTROY my miles-per-gallon. Cuz the temptation to do what ya gotta do in order to hear what ya wanna here is damned near impossible to resist.

Yeh, I have a manual so I tell it what rpm's I want not the other way around. I've even noticed that i can get just a little cackle on deceleration right around that 2800 - 3200 sweet spot. Now that its been in for half a week --and I dunno if i'm imagining things-- but it seems to have gotten a bit louder. I don't know if the ECU starts to figure some things out or if welded parts need a little extra time & heat for final fitment to take hold or what, but its rumble'n more today than it was on Wednesday. Sounding meaner than hell right now

Hi there,

after this mod, have you notice any drone at all inside the cabin?

I did a muffler delete only and kept all the rest stock, and between 2k-3k RPM the drone is very noticeable, but once the revs go high the roooarrrr kiks in.

Thanks

None. Absolutely zero. I don't know about differences between my 07 3.5 TL-S and your 09 TL-SH & others can certainly speak more to those specifics, but my setup has yielded no drone. By 'muffler delete' I assume you're talking about the 'mid-muffler'

Oh that's cool.
I guess it might be a small difference on how both cars will react indeed. My mid-muffler is still in place, I just removed the two big mufflers in the back and running strait pipes.

Is your cars raspy as hell without the two back mufflers?

Not really, I like how it sounds.
The only thing that is driving me nuts is the drone when the acceleration happens between 2k until it reaches 3k rpm.

Same exact mods as you on my Accord. Gave a buddy who has an Audi Q5 a ride. He asked what I'd done to my car. I told him and he asked if that would work on his Audi. I asked why and he said he loved how my car sounds when you get on it but at the same time so quiet at a steady speed. Kind of looked at him and said "you want your Audi to sound like an Accord"? He said "not any Accord, just yours".

Add a CAI and Jpipe and the sound is even better. My set up is AEM CAI, ATLP Jpipe, Stage 3 exhaust (dynomax 24215 / Mid muff delete) and it sounds great, even on idle. Thinking of swapping out the rear mufflers with some magnaflows now..
