Murph, my guess is that the pearl in your paint helps hide some of the dust...but I agree...with the OEM pads...OMG...2 days and the aspecs were almost black with dust. The ceramics are a lot easier to maintain.

Inacurrate...wow, thank you very much...I consider you one of the forum pioneers and detail oriented gods, so coming from you...that's QUITE the compliment. I won't mention how heavy my wheels and sound system are in your presence Let's just say if your TL is on a diet, mine is a TL that's just left Burger King on a penny whopper day.

Forgive my shi**y iphone pics, but here they are as promised

I used the brush on kit from G2, that stuff is amazing. Its the Mustang Windveil Blue kit. I have full confidence in its durability after only a month. How do I do know? Theres still a few stains on my driveway cause the bag I tossed the cup of paint in leaked through, and it ain't going nowhere! On top of that, if I was to to do it again, I would definitely, DEFINITELY wear gloves. Took me over an hour of thinning, degreasing + scratching to just get most of the paint off my hands.

I instantly fell in love with the freshly painted calipers after I finished, I actually may have blushed a little

So far I been getting nothing but positive feedback. I gotta thank Rotora for creating this color theme..

JP i think this color combo is PERFECT for your car! It even matches perfect with the bluish hue of our side mirrors

Blue looks nice. Reminds me of the S2000 suzuka blue. But next time don't paint the rear pads.

For WDP, depends what you've got going on with wheels, etc. Personally, I'd only do Black or Red (if I wanted a "bold" contrasting color). White would be too much upkeep.

Powdercoating IMO. It's way stronger than paint and so strong you'd have to hit it with hammer to chip it.

Great ideas.... Will probably be doing something on this soon... Still thinking about which color combo will look good on a NBP with funeral specs. Leaning towards silver with black but not sure.

Well I am finally getting ready to do this now that we have good weather. I bet practically a third of my paint has bubbled off my brembos at this point. They look hideous.

I'm still unsure of what color I want to go with. Like I said 4 pages back, I like the brighter colors. And since I have NBP and silver wheels, I think it will look good. I also don't have a "secondary" color yet, so I have options.

I'm thinking I may try and color match the orange that's in the headlights. Or, since I have to redo my headlights once again, I may paint the silver ring like swoosh has done and match the caliper color to that. Decisions decisions decisions!

do we really need to remove the bolts/pins/pads blah blah blah...or can we just tape over and paint accordingly?

eg, thanks, brother.
Sharky, you know man...it's so much easier to pull the pads out, take a piece of newspaper and put it on the rotor and carefully rotate it through so it protects the rotor, then take off the nipple rubber and put a grocery bag over the rest of the rotor/hub to not do it right...so easy. Really. That extra step will save you much more time than it will take you to tape everything up and have to goof off overspray. Do it once, do it right.

I REALLY don't want to remove the pads. For several reasons.

1) I don't want any more grease or grime on anything
2) I'd have to rebleed, correct? Both my bleeder valves on the brembos seemed REALLY REALLY iffy when I put all my RB stuff on last year. BTW, fuck that super soft brembo aluminum.

Shit man sorry. I knew as I was writing that it didn't feel right. Lol

Your car looks like a CBP in this pic. Hotness!

Do you guys think if I paint matched that projector ring to the turn signal orange if it'd be "too much"?

It's hard to say, man...when I did the blue ring, I was worried it'd look a little ghetto. Turns out, the color worked pretty well with the theme. I'm wondering if a color matched ring would look pretty awesome though (say, WDP or something).

I WISH I had Carbon Bronze!

About pad removal, no siree bob...no bleeding of ANYTHING. You take out pads with the 2 pins, then to carefully put them back in you just use a screwdriver or anything with leverage and push the pistons back a bit, get one side in, then the other. Easy. No mess, no nothin...

Trust me, pad removal is the way to go. The rears are just as easy if not easier.

Hmmm. I'm going to to photochop a color matched ring into one of my pics. Of course that orange ring may look retarded with a 5k angel eye over top of it... So it may be a mute point anyways. Blue would def look hot though.

And I guess your right, it's just the pins. Well as long as I don't have to bleed it, I'll pull the pads. Definitely taking the rears apart as I think it'd be damn near impossible to paint all sides of those calipers with them on. Plus don't those calipers have like a texture to them? I wouldn't mind sanding/priming/sanding/priming those to be nice and smooth like the brembos are...

if you guys havent done this yet, will give Sharky and Maharajamd as piece of advice !!!

dont be lazy and take that shit off !!!

why you ask ? The reason I asked you to take it off coz over the years, the paint is gonna start hardening and cause problems with your brakes....how do I know you ask....i just was replacing a caliper and found some tiny amount of over spray here and there....

I usually agree and disagree with Jeremy, but i totally agree with him on this occasion.....it barely takes couple more minutes to pop off the pads and cover the remaining area....PRECAUTION is better than CURE !!!

Yay, we agree!
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Slam dunk...

PS, is that what actually ended making your caliper seize up?!?!

^^^ NO....it was my caliper piston....dude it was seized !!!

the piston would only go in to a point and wont go back anymore....had to replace my caliper today....and say the overspray was preventing couple bolts from turning and it was on the pads and just pissed me off on the piss poor job i did before....this time around everything came off and was sprayed properly and put back on !!!

hrmm..

what color combo would look good on a WDP-S?

i'm kind of leaning towards silver w/ black or red lettering... not too sure tho...
red might seem a bit too flashy..especially for my stock car

Decal Sizes

Upon further review and after seeing Sharks freshly painted calipers I wanted to make sure I order the right size brembo decals.

He linked me to a 5" decal which he used on his calipers. I felt after looking at it that 5" was too long. So I cut up some paper and did some mockups.
  • OEM Acura logo is around 3" long.
  • A standard Brembo decal is 3.25" long.
  • The perfect Brembo decal size for our calipers would be 4-4.25" long.
  • A big and bold Brembo decal would be 5" long. It fits just fine but slightly wraps around the non-flat area.
After looking at it and looking at it I've decided I'm going to go Sharks route and order 5 inchers. I think the big and bold is the look we are going for.

Just thought I'd share.

^i thought the same thing BUT the size of these decals is actually perfect. it lines up right before the crease on the calipers. you'll be happy with the ones i linked to you.

have fun! what color paint are you going with?

You know after looking around all morning I think I'm back to where I was, the Blue Anodized MetalCast color from Duplicolor.

http://www.duplicolor.com/success/stories/WcWQKuUZFo

I want to paint other things (engine) to match this color and I just can't justify $20 a can when I would be pretty happy with the $6 can metal cast. And it's also something I don't have to wait for, I can just go grab it off the shelf. Plus it's rated to 500* and being "anodized" it is really really blingy.

So that with white 5" decals.
