Alrighty....the shop said there would be no problem at all making the pipes. The only thing is they are trying to find the flanges that would fit the precats, but it shoudln't be a big deal.

So it is going to be 2.0" pipes from the precats, and collect into a 2.5" pipe. Also it would be equal length and stainless steel. Everyone okay with that?

Just want to be sure what you guys want. I think the majority like these three.

Tell me which one you want.

stillhere153 09-12-2007 08:26 PM

I think the best would be a combo between the first and the third.. :2cents:

ballinfizzle89 09-12-2007 08:35 PM

I'm not really good with the whole "which design would work better" but I'd rather have function over stucture:nod: and something both NA and FI TLs will gain some power from

Any idea on the pricing yet lookinco?

Right, but I thought it was equiped w/ the pro-cats. From what I've read, it's either the pro-cats or the j-pipe. With both they lost power.

ACTROS 09-13-2007 10:57 AM

Yeah I recall Nitro's car had the cats too and when they tried the j-pipe he lost torque, like 10lbs. But aren't you guys running the cats as well???

Don't get me wrong, I want you guys to gain, this is a great project, the stock j-pipe is a piece of shit as far as I'm concerned. It is stainless and double walled though for durability and quietness.

In NA form there just might be not enough of exhaust flowing from the engine, the exhaust gases will cool and slow down if the exhaust piping is too large and free flowing, that's when you lose power. You want the exhaust gas to stay very hot and move briskly out of the exhaust system!

lookinco 09-13-2007 06:15 PM

Hopfully the new j-pipe won't be too large compared with the stock j-pipe.

Here are some measurments between the two pipes.

Stock: J-pipe:
inlet inside diameter: 1-3/4"
outlet inside diameter 2-1/2"

Custom J-pipe:
inlet inside diameter 2.0"
outlet inside diameter 2-1/2"

As you can see the outlet of both pipe is the same while the inlet is slightly bigger. The main advantage here would be to get rid of the restrictive bend.

What seems interesting is that the stock J-pipe outlet is 2.5" but the inlet of the stock 3rd cat and E-shift procat is only 2-1/8". So retaining the 3rd cat might be a good thing for the NA TLs.

ACTROS 09-13-2007 07:35 PM

I like, that j-pipe along with a third cat should be fine for NA guys!

But the supercharged guys could use a larger diameter piping still, if possible, even w/o the third cat, since the blown engine provides a lot more exhaust. Remember, as you make the exhaust better flowing the boost drops w/o the power loss, and that's a good thing.

lookinco 09-14-2007 02:57 AM

I decided to go with a 2.5" J-pipe because all aftermarket catback system uses 2.5" pipe.
Would be pointless to go any bigger if the cat back is smaller than the J-pipe.

I think this will be a good setup. It should be a good comprise between daily drivability and power.

CleanCL 09-14-2007 08:39 AM

2.5 sounds a bit big to me...

stillhere153 09-14-2007 09:00 AM

I was hoping for somewhere in between 2" and 2.5", 60mm or 2.36 (after market catbacks are 60mm)

CleanCL 09-14-2007 12:53 PM

i would do 2.25" MAX, the comptech j-pipe for the J32A2 is only 2" diameter piping and it provides more than enough flow for guys to push 300+whp on blowers.

lookinco 09-14-2007 01:49 PM

Oh yeah....seems like 60mm is what most people uses. Just found that out when I was installing my Greddy catback.

So does everyone want to keep the 2.5" or change to 60mm?

lookinco 09-14-2007 05:46 PM

This pipe is now for sale:

Let me know if any of you are interested.

http://xdf.xanga.com/630c03f70723214...m108906194.jpg

$250shipped.

clborden 09-15-2007 01:27 AM

I'm hoping that 2.5 isn't too big. I'd vote for 2.25, but that's just me.

Whats the specs on it....I am supercharged....might be interested.

stillhere153 09-15-2007 01:28 PM

alrighty then 60mm it is ( I AM HAPPY NOW lol)

Eoanou 09-15-2007 01:47 PM

So a 2" inlet versus the stock 1 and 3/4" and the outlet will be a smaller 60mm outlet versus the stock 2.5" outlet?

N/A will run a 3rd cat to maintain some restrictiveness to keep gains, while S/C will remove the third cat for more gains?

Am I getting this right?

Eoanou 09-15-2007 01:49 PM

If we can pull off anything decent 10whp on an A/T TL with just the J-pipe, and no other mods, I'm sold.

I'd be willing to pay $500 maybe 700 since it's stainless steel, but honestly I just want my J-pipe to stand up to the winter.

Will be interested to see dyno for NA with stock cats. If the $$$/hp ratio is less then Eshift pro cats, I am definitely in.

lookinco- I checked the thread and didn't see anything about this anywhere, so it's time to get with astro about becoming an authorized vendor so the thread can stay open. Send him a PM and he can give you the details.

I'll leave your post with the price in to give you time to contact astro, but don't wait too long.

lookinco 09-15-2007 04:43 PM

I am not selling anything as of now. The pipe that's selling is a used one that I got from another member here. I shoudln't have posted it here i guess....should have posted that in the black market.

The post is gone.

Make sure you get with astro before you do anything, and especially before you post any pricing information here.

So we have made the first one. 2.0" runners, 2.5" collector, full stainless steel, mandrel bent, equal length. AND BEST OF ALL, retains 3rd cat, so this pipe WILL PASS EMISSION.

So who is ready to buy?

lookinco 09-20-2007 02:53 AM
