The exhaust system is not just just the mufflers only-the catalytic converters bolt right onto the motor and the comptech system pipes directly off the cats with larger diameter tubing(about 30% larger than stock) running under the length of the car. There is some sort of baffle on the stock pipes just behind the motor that is not on the comptech system-maybe this lessens back-pressure. There is virtually no "drone" at highway speed-one really would only notice the diffference at high rpm or at start-up. It sounds really cool-and I like the fact the tips are noticeable-it looks mean...

Looks good. Personally, I am not a fan of the odd shaped outlets. On the other hand, if the odd shaped tips were flush like the ones on the concept TL, they would be HOT!

30% larger pipes ???!!! hmmm, larger pipes are usually not good as as oem replacement. larger tubes allow for the gases to expand, cool, and slow down, all the things you dont want happening in the exhaust system.

i would really like to see a dyno chart of before and after.

I love being able to post my opinion

You know what, I think that I agree with the others here in this forum. Great for the upgrades the comptech exhaust does, but man that really looks like a pile that I dropped in the bathroom. I guess if you are under 20 people might think that it is cool, but c'mon dude this definetly broke the rice barrier. You might as well install those crazy flame stickers and swap you rims out for 13" dayton's, drop some neon ground lights and install chrome trim along the wheel wells. I know that you don't want to hear this after all that hard work but man am I dissapointed

I was thinking the exact same thing. I love the way the ROH Fury's looked. Pierce, I know this is a little off-topic, but what are the specs (i.e. offset and width?) Thanks.

cut them off, weld on the oem square ones. IMHO, paint the end muffler and tips with black BBQ paint.

I'd like to see the dynos on those before I would consider this. I really like the OEM tips, the Coptechs are not to my tastes.

PoochakannINC-

The ROH wheels are 19x8 and have 245/35/19 MICHELIN Pilots. The offset is +40mm and they achieve the exact fit I was looking for. The pictures of that wheel don't do it justice as the wheel can look bright silver or dark charcoal depending on the angle-plus it picks up the grey accents on the ground effect.

I know comptech has Dyno'd the exhaust but has not posted the chart on their site yet-I asked for that info the other day and Adam never got back to me-they are in Cali so I will need to wait another hour to call and get the figures from him.

JUST RECIEVED COMPTECH DYNO GRAPHS FROM NATE @ COMPTECH...

Interesting that there is no rpm range where the horsepower/torque is below stock-all gain from idle to redline-here are the stats:

Max Hp increase @ 6200 rpm= +7.5 horsepower(at the wheels)
stock horsepower @ 6200 rpm= 224.7
with exhaust @6200 rpm= 232.2

Max torque increase @ 1200 rpm(?)= +10 ft/lbs(at the wheels)
stock torque @ 1200 rpm = 161 ft/lbs
with exhaust @ 1200 rpm = 171 ft/lbs

Torque increase @ 6200 rpm= +7 ft/lbs(at the wheels)
stock torque @ 6200 rpm= 190 ft/lbs
with exhaust @ 6200 rpm =197 ft/lbs

Flywheel horsepower is generally 12-13% higher than numbers at the wheels. Through most of the power band(3500-6000 rpm) the hp increase is in the 4-6 area and the torque is in the 6-8 area. Interesting note-Nate suspects that with an intake the gains would be pretty significant when paired with this exhaust.

My Injen CAI will be here in a week.

To me, the numbers seem higher than I expected. I would not have thought it would have netted more than 5 hp. I regarded this a basic sound mod.

If it increases torque by 10 ft/lb at 1200 rpms (if Comptech's dyno is correct), that is significant in my book.

These are really good numbers - better than I expected. Any chance you can post the charts? Comptech should be quicker to get them posted - especially when the numbers were good. I feel guilty for asking...you've posted so much good info for us already. Thanks again for finding and posting these numbers.

I have the Injen intake installed - I think you'll be happy with it. My car dyno'd at 236whp with it. You should be in the 240-250whp range with both intake and exhaust. That's nothing to sneeze at!

Although Pierce could confirm this, I believe that if a dealer installs Comptech equipment on your car, then the warranty is not affected.

I am not able to post the actual dyno chart as they faxed to me(not available to e-mail). They said the figures were hot off the press, so fax was the best they can do. As far as warranty issues with Comptech/Acura- I have been putting Comptech headers, exhaust, springs etc. on Acura's for about four years now and have never had an issue. It does not void your warranty if you use Comptech accessories. Good night all..

Pierce

Does this include Comptech accessories NOT installed by a dealer? Is it up to each Dealership or do they all stand by it.

PS it would be nice to get a sound clip from someone

With just a catback you should expect about 2 hp at top end...

Catback is just for look and sound not for power.... If you looking for any power from the exhaust system you will need to get headers and a downpipe..

so $1k for looks and sound? Doesn't make sense to me, especially since most people seem to prefer the shape/look of the stock tips with the TL. I was debating this purchase, but if there's any truth to the post above this, it's completely out of the question.

I'm not too crazy about the round tips either. I had a Comptech on my 2002 TLS, and I liked the round exhaust outlets, but the whole design of the '04TL just cries for the square exhaust outlets. What was Comptech thinking when they put round outlets in a square hole.....just doesn't make any design sense. I'll pass!! It's just not worth ruining the "square" look of the rear end design of the new TL just to get a few extra horsepower...and even that's up for debate. I didn't notice any power gain on my TL-S using the Comptech exhause...it sure looked good with NBP on the TLS, and sounded nice too...but the '04 styling clashes with the Comptech look...sorry..just my opinion.

That's not universally true. It depends on the application. Many cars respond well to exhaust system upgrades. If the numbers posted here pan out, the 04 TL may be one of them.
