Question Cold Air Intake Worth It Or Not?

I was wondering if anybody can let me know if a cold air intake like INJEN does really make a difference in our Acura TLs? I've been pricing them and can get on installed for around $350. But I would like to get one only if it's worth it? Also are they noise?

if you do a search on this, you'll find that almost everyone who has installed a CAI (regardless of whether AEM or Injen) have all recommended it. It's the best bang for the buck. Hope that helps in your decision

dont have the pulley but the cai and the rsb are easy. rsb is much easier with access to a lift, the cai isnt hard if you dont mind taking off the bumper. there are some diy guides on the forum if you search

I recommend ordering one.

There are three options that i know of...INJEN, AEM, and Fujita F5.

You should look into the Fujita version.

You don't have to pull the bumper for the AEM CAI. I know I didn't.

yeah, i didnt either, its a lot faster to leave it on. i suggested doing that if you want to make it easy on yourself. the bumper is pretty self explanatory and does not take a long time to pull off.

Pull the bumper......as many have said....dont do it....not needed. And I would go with the AEM...have had Injen...AEM has an IAT sensor relocation option and is WAY cheaper than Injen.

Even if there is a small perf gain, the AEM is worth it. Throttle response is greatly improves, the the sound it gives out is highly addictive.

Ditto here, I don't even think it was on the instructions, also no need to drain the radiator....

JUST DO A SEARCH, there are lots of threads on install on these things....very simple to do and not a huge time waster. I think I installed the first one in two hours (with beers) and the AEM unit after in about 20 minutes - which required removing the entire Injen unit too....AEM mounts to different place than Injen. AEM is easier to work with fact is.

Me neither. I was like that's a hastle and on the old civic si's they told you to do it but it wasn't needed at all.

Removal of the resonator box was a pain!!!! It took me almost 3 hours to pry the damn thing open! I'm not a grease monkey either. Save yourself the $100 for the RSB.

What is the RSB? I tried the search function, but was informed the search information was too short.

Pry it open??? All you had to do is to drill out the pop-rivet and it came right apart (with a little tug)

I did drill the rivets, but the tubing was glued to the resonator pretty good. I had to use a flathead to pry it apart.

no. i only suggested that since it might be an easier install if you are not familiar with how everything comes apart. i just removed the driver side tire, undid the splash guards, and took off the bumper screw on to get at the intake...

its much quicker to leave the bumper on, although some might find it easier to take the bumper off. its whatever you feel comfortable with.

i made a few different exhausts for my TL...wound up keeping the most basic one. all that i did was replace the stock resonator with a 22" magnaflow one, remove the mid-muffler and replace it with regular exhaust pipe, and swap out the rear mufflers with magnaflow ones. for the tips i just cut the OEM tips off and welded them onto the magnaflows. Lokis and flov77 (cant remember spelling) have done the exact same thing, though both their cars look much better because they used the SS mufflers. cost should be between 400-600 depending on what exactly you get and where you live (labor costs).

Hey Tony, I do remember that. There was some type of adhesive in that tube connection too wasnt there. I think that was the part where I went in for a drink and smoke break and came back fresh afterwards. There was a bit of a hitch...err....break there wasnt there. I remember just saying screw it...and grabbing it and pulling hard....and hoping the instructions werent leading me wrong!

when you say ss mufflers...what is the difference? is magnaflow the preferred muffler? how loud did it make your car?

i ordered the shortest magnaflows i could get (case lenth was 11 inches)...they dont make the stainless steel that short although there is no problem going with the 14 inch case length. originally i thought it would be an issue so thats why i got the shortest.

i really liked the options i had with magnaflow because i had installed about 500 mufflers on other cars and knew what it would sound like. though each car is different, its like with a flowmaster, you can get an idea of the tone.

i think stainless steel is mostly for looks (looks good), though ive heard it possibly could move the exhaust faster (something with heat) but that might be only if the entire exhaust is stainless. i dont think it makes that much of a difference, but looks sharp.
