Are you really hard on the clutch? Is it the flywheel that is making noise or the clutch? I was planning on getting the same set up.

I doubt it. Well, the pressure plate maybe. The disc will be unique. I had a Spec stage 4 on my Camaro and it was unsprung 4 puck carbon/kevlar pads. It was a damn good clutch. I launched at 5500 rpm's with 456 rwhp.

Dang man, sorry to hear that! I remember messaging you about your thoughts on the clutch. I'm about ready for one soon...If I take off VSA and run hard, it slips throughout 3rd and 4th!

^^Come to think of it, I had a spec stage 3 on my turbo eclipse for a couple of years with no issues as well. Went through two trannies during that time though.

here's some more info

http://www.specclutch.com/cars/Acura/TL/2004/Single

fyi anyone who goes anything but stage 1 will surely require new motor mounts... also it is highly suggested to resurface or purchase a stock flywheel

by the way... I may have an integra now... but its not going to be a 4banger for long so I researched the clutch to go with

I just had the SPEC stage 2 installed on my car, still driving the loaner car from the dealer so cant comment on how good the new clutch is. All i can say is racinghart03 said it "grabs really good"

I think it was EXEDY that was an OEM/Painted setup.

I hear ya but at this point either you get a free replacement (which probably won't happen, or cut your losses and buy a Spec. You can still use the clutchmasters flywheel just might need to have it cut and have the hotspots removed.

wow man that sucks to hear. did you breakin properly? i have about 15k or so and hasnt slipped on me yet :knockonwood:

i actually bought a spec stage 3+ before my CM kit and i wasnt impressed with the looks of it one bit. the disk did look pretty good, but it was a sprung hub disc (not rigid) and wouldnt work well coupled with a dual mass FW. PP on the other hand was nothing more than a stock one painted blue.

one other guy on v 6 P had VERY bad luck with spec clutches. he first got the stage 2 and right after 500 miles bread in it slipped first launch

then he upgraded to a stage 3 i believe and after being on his car, the fingers broke off the spec PP and was spinning around with the assembly tearing up his expensive comptech LWFW. heres a post with pics of the carnage,

http:///forums/showpost.php?p=1345749&postcount=29
^^ not pretty to say the least.

trust me, SPEC IS GARBAGE!!!! at least for our applications.

and the spec clutches arent exactly cheap either. your looking about 850 for the stage 3+ kits. if your looking for a good clutch kit (minus FW) go for the CM stage 3. i think it cost around 700 or so.

EDIT: i forgot acurazine filters EVERYTHING from v 6 P how gay!! ill copy and post the pics right here later on.,

You may just have to replace a disc. You'll have to pull the clutch out though to find out.

You won't be able to put the SPEC on the Clutchmaster's setup since the SPEC is designed for the OE dual mass flywheel.

Would you need to upgrade tranny mounts when u upgrade your clutch too?

But as I read somewhere, something about our TL mounts are probably strong enough to handle another 100 hp or so. Does that relate to the tranny mount?

This what it looks like now... where did the fingers go?

the clutch disc

The flywheel got hammered from the broken pressure plate pieces.

this is why i say F spec..... painted blue OEM PP with a spec label FTL!

I used an XTD for a while on my old h22 accord lol that thing held up pretty good and it was a stage 3 haha. Anyway I am looking for a performance clutch. I think exedy makes one for the accord and I would assume that would fit on the TL setup but I could be wrong. They do make OE setups and I would recommend them...I will have to research it a bit.

Heres an Exedy OE replacement part number...HCK1007 I dunno if they make performance disks for our cars but that would be great. I would go with Exedy if anything. We had a few bolt on H22A's running Exedy Stage 1's and romping them down the track it held up well. I think Exedy reported it as 20-25% more clamping force than the OEM on the H22A...As for the TL I am not sure.

ok, i have heard soooooooo many different stories about this kit. It almost sounds like whoever installed the OP's kit messed up. everyone else has said it rocks. perhaps your kit was defective. Anyone else that has this kit needs to post their opinions pronto... especially cuz i'm about to buy one.

I would wait, I had the same exact problem with my kit. I should have a better update for you in a few days...my case went up to their GM and they're looking at the kit closer to determine its fate/future..

dude its not that he was hard on the clutch, he had disengagement issues from the start which eventually caused the disc to fail. The flywheel noise has to do with the starter on the flywheel bc the ringgear isn't the same spec as the stock ring gear. Just hold off a bit on purchasing this...i'll have more details on it soon.

Thats the way to do it...People with failed products should send it back and let them see WHAT failed. That way they can at least make the product better instead of constantly manufacturing an on and off product depending on usage.
