calling all CAI applicants!

As as you guys know, the filters on the cold air intakes don't exactly require a lot to let in dirt. Here's my problem: i haven't cleaned or changed out the filter for my f5 fujita cai intake in quite a while. i took it out today and BOY WAS IT DIRTY, and unfortunately some small dirt particles were SITTING INSIDE the filter (fine pieces of dirt as well). Should i be worried? I'm sure even with the factory filters, SOME dirt gets in..............think sea foam will do the trick???

thanks,
eric

APPRECIATE ANY INPUT!!! THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!

unfortunately... the cai filters... are said to require changing or cleaning now and again...

the filter replacements are fairly inexpensive, I'd change mine every 10k miles... but because I don't drive nearly that much, once a year is the way to go... I am changing my current filter at the start of the summer

You CAN'T prevent dirt particles from being imbedded into the filter element. I cleaned mine a while back, and it was reinstalled with these tiny dirt particles, and I don't have any problesms. So I agree with Al...clean the filter at least once per year. I clean mine every 6 months.

clean the cai tube with carb spray or TB cleaner- then spray the TB plate so the crud runs off of it- front and back of that plate and its edges!
Seafoam the engine oil too, to clean out the oil passages- this is good anyway-- but when you suspect contamination.....
Use a new oil filter and then run foam- then change oil and filter

Maybe you should clean it more often or try another filter. How would you apply Seafoam to clean a filter? I never thought to use that on a filter. I have an AEM with their Dryflow filter , no oiling!

LOL i meant sea foam for the motor; figured if all that dirt got into the motor via the throttle body and the cai, then maybe seafoam would clean out any dirt particles that got in?

Shortly after installing my AEM the filter slipped off the tube and I had a non-protected passage to my intake system. I freaked out and called on the masters and I wasn't the first it had happened to.

Long story to tell you very small particles just get burnt up in the chambers. don't worry about it but keep the filter cleaned on interval.

How do you change the filter? Do you have to replace it with a filter made by the same company that makes the intake? My intake will be a year old in about 2.5 - 3 months so I will want to change my filter.

Induction howl was super throaty and started hearing a 'thunk' when making turns. Not even a whole day of driving before I bent down and looked through the air dam vent and noticed it. Luckily, hadn't driven in rain or dirt roads or anything.

A few guys on the forum had removed theirs once or twice for shnitz and giggles and also remembered I had a friend in college that would take his headlight out and run his intake piping directly to the opening - no filter - for track runs.

all you need to do is see if fujita aem and injen make a filter with the same diameter.

one of my buddies has a K&N typhoon cai but has a fujita filter. just had to order the fujita filter with a 2.75'' diameter. hella cheesy move, but it works.
