Looks like an equation with two variables. You definitely can solve one of them: Which is the number that can hurt your wallet?

OP, maybe you should start by telling us what you have done to your car or just look around in the respective threads.

Chances are you are going to find there simply is no cheap way to gain HP. Sure 1 or 2 HP but I wouldn't consider intakes for your car very cheap for the gain it gets. Honestly, if you want to tune your car make it a hobby and understand you will be putting a lot of money into something others may find you crazy for doing. Otherwise if money is tight I wouldnt make tuning a hobby.

^LOL, you bought the wrong car for "cheap" hp gains. Search around, youll find the answers your looking for. If indeed you do have a 99TLP, you may want to search in the 2g forums.

Reaper didn't take our advise on searching around our vendors link or performance section.

You first need to figure out your goal. How much is not too much?

I have a 2g and a 3G, money isn't exactly tight it's just I'm in the process of trying to buy a motorcycle, I mean if I wanted to do a mod like cold intake or change of muffler what would u suggest as a permanent change I keeps hearing red dragon intake( if I'm correct) the only mods I have done are a fullscale sound system change my car still picks up and goes just would like a faster accel is probably what my main goal is atm I will overall change as much as I can I'm just not willing to dump thousands yet

Best bang for the buck is a j-pipe. Not cheap but $ per hp, it can't be beat.

Doing any part of the exhaust before the catback is bottlenecking the air flow but seeing as how you don't want to spend money go stage 2 or 3 with a j pipe

The stage mods don't do anything performance wise.

If you're goals are quicker acceleration. CAI and a muffler change are light years away. Jpipe,pcd/hfpc are the most rewarding for performance wise. But together there going to cost close to 1k. performance aint cheap.

PCD's are a good mod too, but if you factor in labor, it then becomes more expensive than the J-pipe and labor. That back precat looks like a mofo to get out! And here, while there isn't a visual inspection, they do check for engine codes. I know the PCD's have the O2 bung extended so you shouldn't get a CEL, not sure given the labor and product cost it's worth finding out I might end up with a CEL.

How much difference did you notice with the high flow precats? I know they cost more but if there is enough gain and I can stay emissions legal, it's something I'd definitely consider.

My labor is free. It is not emissions legal, but it passes the sniffer. Gains are noticable but nothing spectacular. Proll 15HP and thats about the threshold of perception.

Trolling you say? op asked for performance recommendations. You suggested a j-pipe AND exhaust stage modifications. I only noted that the stage mods wont help performance any, which is true.

This is the last post I make on this thread. He singled out the one thing on my post that everybody knows doesn't give gains. BUT I mentioned it because it compliments the j pipe well. But no instead you decide to single out that i said a stage mod like it's the only thing I said

Unfortunately, I don't have a lift, impact tools or long extensions so I'd probably have to pay someone. But thanks for the info on the gains!

You don't need any of those. You just need a jack, jack stands, typical sockets, and a flex head ratchet. I also have HFPCs and love them. Install is tough but definitely doable

Try some Injen and Comptech stickers, ~5hp each from those. I hear you can get like 10 hp out of those "illest" stickers

Cold air intake and new sparkplugs are some of the cheapest things you can get for a bit more performance...

Octane boosters to put in your gas tank bro. And nitrogen tire inflation.

But 4 serious, j-pipe and/or PCD/HFPC is the best bang for your buck man. Nothing's cheap 'round here.

After removing mine when doing the j-pipe, I can't imagine the 3rd cat is very restrictive. Looks like a pretty decent design for an OEM cat. And it was quite clean inside...and both of us having had Maximas, we know what a crap design with oil filled exhaust looks like.

This is my third cat.
