I never said the air flow wasn't better. I was stating that the difference is very minimal. To waste $200-300 for a intake that gains only 2-4HP is stupid.

You don't know if he needs information regarding it. He made a thread, and I assumed he needs help regarding performance mods in general. I'd rather help a member out by telling him that he is wasting his money, than not tell him and waste his money.

Its not much but its something, and if you want to start off small its probably something to look into. After adding my ATLP Cat-Back system with J-Pipe and all the bells and whistles I gained about 16HP for a grand total of around 310 (give or take) via dyno. If you have some cash I suggest upgrading exhaust! The numbers don't lie!

you are at 310WHP ???

I have yet to see a fully bolted on TL passing 300WHP....

Andy and Juam have the TL-S 6MT fully bolted on and they are at 296WHP....not past 300....can you list your mods ???

unless the dyno is woefully miscalibrated...

And the numbers you suposedly have, is that at the crank???
There are type s setups that have jandr ecu, thermal spacer, TB spacer, exhaust, intake, weight reduction and every other n/a mod under the sun
barely making 300whp. So for you to sling out these high numbers at random is highly unlikely that there is fact to support them. My guess is , you're taking the oem stock estimated hp and adding the estimated gains from atlp and aem for a best case scenario hp rating...

Oh I am by no means saying these numbers are certain but the dyno I ran my Type S on has seen better days its at my tech school but I am fully bolted! Better guesses at around 295? Stock is 286 on a Type S and not all that is even BHP. I'm learning too

ok you said guess. Did you have a dyno done? where's the dynograph?

it's unheard of that a stock Type S gives 286 whp out the box. Thats what the estimated HP is athe crank... Therefore you (stock) were making around 270ish at the wheels, and now with mods are about 285ish. Not trying to beat you down, but it just doesn't happen

The motor makes power....this is called as BHP or often referred to as "at the crank".....the Type S makes around 286 at the crank.....so yes you are right over there....

but what happens is to spin the transmission, other accessories, all the way down to the rims and finally the tires and hence the car, the car looses some amount of power....this is in the order of 10-15% on a Manual Transmission and ~20% on a Automatic Transmission.....

So the Type S 6MT puts down (STOCK): 286 - 12% (average) = 286 - 42 = 244. I have seen Type S 6MT putting down ~250 stock....

And the Type S 5AT puts down (STOCK): 286 - 20% (lets say) = 286 - 56 = 230.

The 2 cars Juam and Andy's Type S 6MT dynoed at 296 WHP and both were fully bolted on....so if you have all the possible mods, yeah you will be around 296....

The same formula applies for the Base models....

Also people on this forum stress on dyno when you say, hey i have 400 horses.....we are keen to see the dyno and what all you have done to the car

Did you read what i said? i know thats what he said, just explaining it a little better, and so did you.

My Type S was making 269 whp Stock off the lot. I had it dyon'd about 3 weeks after i got it. Somehow I still doubt this guy has it up in the 290's i'd say 285ish, but who knows

Here is my "Best Bang for the Buck Intake" granted I did paid a little but wanted something a little more aftermarket looking

* 1 - 3.5 45* Polished Pipe $15
* 1 - 3 to 3.5 Coupler $7
* 1 K&N 3.5 Filter $50
* 1 Walmart black plastic trash can $5
* 2 feet vac hose $3
* 1 - K&N carb/decal $FREE

Total - $80 for a NEW shiney intake

I used card board for a stencil to make my heat shield than transfered over to the trash can to cut using the bottom portion. Once I was done cutting trash can I sliced the vac hose in 1/2 long way and glued it along the edges of the trash can as trim. I left all factory ducting in place and only removed air box. I need double sided tape to fasten instead of screw but it works for now. My 1st impression is wow it makes a mean sound under WOT and when V-Tec kicks in it sounds like the motor is trying to jump from the bay and leave the heavy ass body behind. Im not sure how much power it made but could tell a difference to say the least and Im happy and it looks good IMO

I bought my CAI for $40 shipped off ebay.

$40/3 hp = 13.3

Not bad.

you should extend the pipe a little more....where its sitting at its more of a Hot Air Intake....extend it like 10-12 inches and it should be better !!!

after a full year of tugging back and fourth to spend or not to spend on a CAI... I ended up taking the plunge a purchased a AEM CAI 2 days ago myself. Will I regret it?...Maybe. Maybe NOT. I purchased it not caring what the immediate results are and thinking of the proven results, small or noticable. Not to mention, It will just add to when I decide to to any mods to my exhaust, such as the RV6 set up shown above.

Note to OP... Buy what u want! Its your car! This site is awesome. At the same time, to each his own. Take in what u want and learn and weed out the fat of others mistakes and opinions. PERIOD

for the guys with short ram setups, you may want to look add adding some duct work to get more air over to that filter.

Head to home depot and find some Tfin Tubing and work it into your setup

I took out the U shape tubing from the stock resinater to the battery and I thought it sounded great plus car felt like it had a bit more pep to it. Now that I added the exhaust system I don't hear the intake anymore. All I hear is exhaust and the. Vtec so what is the point of spending over $200 for a CAI when it offers min gain??? Jpipe test pipe and xlr8 v2 exhaust system is the best way to go for gains.
