AEM CAI vs Velocity Stack CAI

I can't decide what to do, so I'll post here in hopes of some good feedback.

Velocity Stack CAI (This forum associates it with Comptech's Icebox)

Pros:
No threat of hydrolock
Proven performance and history in racing applications for theory of a "velocity stack"
Supposedly similar gains with our car to the traditional tube style CAI
Readily assessible parts
Near stock intake sound

Cons:
Since Comptech or any other company refuses to make one, I need to make it.
Not as much top end power as a traditional CAI can produce
No current dynos. Although many forums have claimed ~15 hp which is what people here have dyno'ed with the traditional CAI. <- My main hesitation to not go this route.

Traditional CAI e.g. AEM
Pros:
Bolt on out of the box. Prefabbed.
Proven performance increase with documentation via Dynos
Looks nice under the hood with polished/color tubing.

Cons:
Threat of hydrolock (especially in Chicago and where I work where 1 foot puddles are common after heavy rain as well as melting snow)
Intake scream (con for me)

Parts to create a Velocity Stack CAI (all from pepboys):
Spectre Velocity Stack : $13.00
60* bent adapter (black) : $9.35
K&N Filter : $49
Silicone connector : $3.09
Total: $74.44

AEM Cold Air Intake
Excellerate $235

My question is, are performance gains really similar to traditional CAI? Does anyone have documentation for the gains? What are your thoughts?

My install, if I go with the velocity stack, will be very similar to the member Minkl's with the exception that I will create a mounting bracket and screw it to the same location the AEM CAI uses. No zip ties. So stability is not an issue.

Thanks everyone

I'd say hop on over to ebay and click the submit an offer and offer them guys selling the fujita cai $125 shipped see if they accept... they prob counter offer 125 + shipping rather than spending $200+ on an aem or spending couple hours customizing the "icebox" type

did you look at the K&N intake for the TL considering you can change it to short ram for the times of incliment weather? dosent that give you the best of both worlds?

icebox (comptech style) = low end gain
cai = high end gain

depends on your driving style. mostly i drive in the city so i prefer lowend gain with improved throttle response.

IMO its very simple.. find a dyno sheet on here that someone dynoed there car with only a AEM CAI, and see what there gains were.

Then after installing your intake which is looks like you have... dyno yours... see if you get similar numbers. Worst case if you get a few less no biggie, if you dont gain at all just go buy a CAI, youve only spent 73 dollars thus far.

I agree you have a fast car.... but do you have any dyno charts showing this.. if so pm me I would like to see those for my future decision on an intake.
