AEM CAI Help?

Hello everyone,

I am a new 07 Type-S owner and new to the community. I previously owned a MK V GTI and loved my CAI. I'm looking at the AEM CAI for the Type-S but i've heard that it can be difficult to install. What are your thoughts? Is it worth it? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats and welcome!

My opinion: Sure it's worth it, nice growl... probably not as much HP as they claim tho.
Also installed myself and I'm no mechanic, no where close.

Thanks!

Yea, I'm not expecting too much HP, after all, it is just an intake. But I am happy to hear about the increased sound and the apparent easy install. Thanks again!

Install is fairly simple. That was my first time installing anything on any car and it only took me three hours to do. You have to get used to the whistle at low RPMs but when you get into the 5k range the growl sounds awesome. Look at the DIY videos....really easy to follow along.

FYI: If you are following the instructions that come with the CAI, they forget to tell you about one of three bolts holding on the resonator. It is very difficult to get off gracefully as it is tucked pretty far up, but is really the only difficult part of the process.

So you also know before purchasing, the AEM V2 will also fit, but it's not listed on the AEMpower website. Model # 24-6110C
I bought my CAI before I realized this...

I don't have an AEM but I do have a Fujita CAI. In my opinion they all do the same thing. The install is not hard but do yourself a favor and take off the bumper skin. It may sound like a lot of work but it really is not. It is held in with maybe 6 screws/bolts and about 10 plastic clips. Once all fasteners are removed you can pull the bumper cover off. Good luck. CAI are a little over priced and way over rated but I like mine.
