the holy shift kit on your sti feels good.
i had a rotate full on build 05 sti and it shifted good.
i have to say my 05 evo mr shifts felt the best out of all the cars i've had (too many).
i test drove a tl and really was unhappy with the feeling of the manual, so i bought an auto. i bought an acura knowing i wouldn't get the mod bug.. so far i haven't -- so that's good. i sank a lot of money in my past evo and blown cobra
with an sti, i'm sure you know what i'm talking about -- i went through two motors!

Sorry you want to make the shifting harder for what benefit? The fact that Hondas and Acuras have a smooth and effortless shifter is what makes them one of the best you can get.

Also, don't you think this probably puts extra wear on the cables?

I guess I am failing to see where there is so much play in the system. Guess I need to try it.

But personally I like to stay just to one side of making my Acura like an STi or S2000. It is a NICE car. Making a shifter that feels like it should be in a racecar does not represent a big improvement for me. This is one of those things that could have annoying side effects in my experience.

so is there any way to make the steering on an Auto heavier or tighter. Not sure if this is related.

With a CT short shifter, corsport bushings, and maven knob the shifter in my car feels perfect. I can't see making it tighter. Sometimes I think you guys just change stuff for the sake of changing something.

I also have the Short Shifter (SS) and it improves the throw between the gears little more stiffer. Thanks for the info OP

A weighted knob provides more momentum through the shift throw. This makes the shift feel easier and smoother. Until, easy and smooth was regarded as a beneficial trail to have in a shifter. Apparently now a stiffer, more difficult throw is better. I am still trying to wrap my head around the benefit of this mod.

It doesn't make it more difficult to shift. Try it.

Its all relative to the driver. I agree with you but look at it from my perspective. I love my TL but in stock trim its just way too mild for my tastes. Now I absolutely BEAT the shit out of my TL, and thats a complete understatement. Seriously, you should see how I drive. I average 16-18mpg on a tank with mixed highway and city. No, my car runs just perfect, I recently got 30mpg on the highway driving to JFK to drop my parents off with 4 ppl in the car and the trunk stuffed with 3 suitcases. Drove 70 the whole way too.

The only annoying side effect one could maybe complain about is the clunking when you shift into gear, but its not very loud and I like it. Keep in mind I'm 23, and my favorite mod on my STi was the holy shift kit that made it feel like a rock, and as a side effect amplified the sound of first and second gears somewhat straight cut teeth lmao. Seriously try it. Worst case you don't like it then just cut the zip tie and go on your way. I'll right up a better DIY soon since the TL is getting garaged for the winter and I'm going to be doing some work on it.

OP, do you happen to know approximately what size washers you used for the shifter box bushings?
I don't feel like ordering the $25 RSX bushings from Corsport when I could just pick up a few washers at the hardware store. However I would like to have the washers in hand before I start disassembling my center console.

I drove to lowe's with one of the rubber bushings that hold it down in my hand haha. Just pull the console off take one bushing out and drive to a hardware store. Don't shift like a maniac and you'll be fine.

Almost a year and 25,000 miles worth of driving in -1 to 110 climate's and nothing. Don't see why there would ever be an issue, try it. If you don't like it then get some dikes cut the ziptie and move on lol.

Newsflash....

I just swapped out my Corsport shifter bushings with new Hybrid Racing ones and WOAH what a difference. The shifter is tight, solid, and EASY to move. Pops into gear with the flick of the wrist with much less free play than with the corsport bushings. Yes, there is supposed to be SOME play in the system.

Putting tension on the shifter cables is NOT a good idea. The cables slide inside the sheath and tugging on them causes increased pressure resulting in friction and eventually wear.

Check this out:

The Hybrid Racing parts we tested worked amazingly.

New Shifter Cable Bushings…Out With Solid Aluminum, In With Hybrid Racing! HeelToeAuto.com's Pit Board

Again, I would strongly recommend against putting any kind of load on shifter cables at all.

How do you figure? They have the same metal design as a bicycle brake cable. It will not get stretched, nor worned out or brake. You can't cut them with a razor sharp pair of dikes, trust me I tried my damnded on my Jetta when I did the 5spd swap the shifter cable is the same material as the auto shift linkage cable. A plastic strap is not going to damage them.

That spherical bushing is a pretty neat idea I must say...kind of tempted to try it out, but I'm pretty happy with the way mine work so I might just skip this.

My Evo IX 6spd was crap. Horrible feedback, mushy and trouble getting into 2nd and 5th. And that was with underhood and shifter base bushings. The 5spd is a superior gearbox. My G35c had the nicest gearbox I have ever driven. Short, crisp shift, only your wrist is needed to shift. The TL gearbox isn't too bad imo, aside from the 3rd gear issues.

Hate to bump this up from the grave, but I can't find pictures of this mod anywhere.

Can anyone post theirs or repost one for me?

I'll post one tomorrow. You literally just zip tie your cables over to the nearest engine harness loom. All it does is get rid of the side to side excess slop.

On standby, good sir! I only ask for a picture because I haven't been in there yet.

I'm planning on taking out the center console sometime this week for the mandatory shifter upgrades for a 6MT

So I ziptied the two cables together but there are multiple engine harness looms in the engine bay and none seem to reach the cables. Any pictures?
