Quick tip: use google for searching e.g. short ram intake acura tl. This will result in past discussions on this matter.

To answer you question; NO short ram intake. Your stock intake is much more efficient.

What are your goals; more noise? Yeah, you'll get that. You want more power? Sorry, no, the Honda engineers who designed your car did a pretty damn good job. Why screw it up?

What would you guys then suggest for budget performance mods?

Not much, maybe a J-Pipe. Beyond that, Honda did a pretty darn good job of eking about as much power from the engine as can be done shy of some very expensive mods (i.e. yanking the engine and stroking it to 3.5 or 3.6 liters or a forced induction mod).

You could go with a K&N drop in filter 33-2379 I believe Filtech is embossed on the airbox plastic. Whoever designed it was going for flow as the inside is smooth. If you look at other OEM airboxes they usually put a waffle grid in the bottom half to catch leaves and other debris.

K&N drop in filter

Would the drop in filter even improve anything or is that just because the OEM intake is well designed that I shouldn't replace it?

Pull off your stock intake resonator and throw in a K&N drop-in filter. Best bang for the buck, IMO!

Leave the intake alone, a stock intake is about as good as it gets; putting a K&N in there will do nothing but allow a bunch of dirt into the engine (K&Ns suck when it comes to filtration).
