2004 J37 swap questions

The current J32 in the 2004 TL with manual trans is getting a little tired and starting to smoke. It is getting to the end of its life cycle.

Looking to see if a J37A4 swap is possible. This is a racing application. Emissions are not even remotely an issue. We have to stick with NA. No boost, no NO2, pump gas only.

We are required to use "stock" components. A stock J37A4 seems to have the best bang for the buck. With a little work, it should be able to far eclipse what the J32 and maybe the J35 can do.

1) Will the J37A4 even fit and mount to the 6 speed?
2) Will a J35A8 harness and ECU run the J37 or is something else needed?

the j37a4 will work with the j35a8 trans. if you want to use the 04 trans, you will need to swap out the bell housing for the j35a8
you can us the 04 harness. just need to switch out the coilpack plugs with the j37 ones
i believe you will need to swap out the crank sensor from the j32 to the j37
the j35a8 ecu should run it, but you will get cels for certain sensors that can be shutoff with flashpro

I swapped the guts from a J37 into my J32 block for my 05 Tl.. Best thing I have ever done.. takes a good machine shop, but the motor is a beast.

Uses Stock J32ECM, HFCD, Down Pipe, J37 Injectors. Runs strong, pulls harder than any NA Tl, and is a blast to drive in 6th on the freeway, as it pulls great with out having to downshift.

Basically, I used the entire internal engine guts.
Crank, Rods, J37 Heads, cams, etc.

I bought new pistons, as I was boring the block, I wanted new pistons with no wear, and fresh cyl walls, for maximum long term life and running.

I bored the block, swapped over pistons, and began the process of building the short block. Initially I thought I was going to have some clearance issues, but ultimately found no problems anywhere. Built the lower end, freshened up the cylinder heads, and built the long block. All new seals, gaskets, etc. Installed with new clutch, belts, hoses, and I was ready to go.

Installed the HFPC, J Pipe Long version, and everything went together great.

I did finally use the J37 Injectors, and swapped the connectors for the proper ones to attach to the Fuel Inj., so that my fuel trim and driveability was better.
With the J32 Injector, it runs lean, or borderline lean.

Picked up 4 MPG on the Freeway, and cruises in 6th with great pull, no longer have to downshift to roll out.

Insanity!!!

Hey guys just saw this thread and I’ve been trying to do my homework while funds build up to begin these insane builds that I’m gonna start working on. I have two Integras DA9 models that i am gonna swap but not your conventional swap I’d like to put J37A4 with MT AWD I already know that I’m gonna have to do a whole lot of fabrication as well as possibly getting harnesses and ECUs revamped I am planing on boosting the thing is pretty much gonna end up frankensteining just to get everything squared out in the long run I was just wondering if there were any ideas and some advice out there to achieve the astonishing feat?

Look into the realtime racing TSX with the v6 option. They had custom "factory" cams developed by HPD with the 3.5L engine. You can also see how honda changed the head design on the newer J35's to produce a bunch more power low end.

Does anyone know if the Rv6 pcd for j37a4 will work on our gen? I'm planning to swap in the j37a4 into my 05 TL 6spd. I already have upgraded to Rv6 PCD and ATLP Jpipe on my J37a1. I know the J37a4 heads are different and would require a new PCD but not sure if the 4g PCD would have any fitment issue. Does someone have a answer?

I'm confused. If you plan to swap the J37A4 into your 05 then why are you concerned with the J37A4 PCDs fitting?
