08 TL-S engine in a 04 TL BASE
Sorry if this question has been asked before but I'm a little frustrated and need the info asap.. Posting, let alone search forums using is a pain in the azz..
Long story short, I purchased an 06 TL motor from a local salvage yard, when replacing the water pump, the mechanic noticed tons of aluminum shavings and a piss poor attempt to fix the water pump housen! So the motor is going back... And the more days the car is at the shop the more I paid storage fees...
I found a 08 TL-S engine with 27k and I was wondering what issues will I run into if it goes into an 04 TL base? Will the 04 tranny work?
Also I bought a brand new water pump and timing belt for the 06 TL Base engine, will those work for the 08 TL-S?

Different tranny. Probably different ECU/engine management as well.
Water pump is the same: 19200-RDV-J01
Timing belt is the same: 14400-RCA-A01

Like already mentioned the water pump and timing belt are the same. The difference is the block, the trans bolt locations are different on the j35a8 block. You will need the Type S automatic trans, and if you were to put it in you would either need to reuse sensors off your old motor, or change the plugs out on your current engine harness, as some of the sensors use different plugs. ie: o2 sensors, iat, ect. probably a few more that i am forgetting.

Find an 06. Unless your one of those types that has lots of $$$, another car to drive and a hard head, it aint worth it. Just so you can say I have a "type s" engine.... More trouble than its worth IMO.
