XM Radio Problem

I'm getting only a handful of channels. When I select a preset, the display says, "updating". I've driven the car over 3 hours with XM on, but it still says the same thing.

The problem started after my free trial was up, despite agreeing 3 weeks ahead of time to continue for three months.

I've tried to resend the signal twice, waiting 20 minutes with the radio on Channel 1. This hasn't worked or shown any sign of progress.

If there are any interruptions in that 20 minute span, does that mean you have to start over again?

Will the update take place only on Channel 1? I'd rather listen to something else for the 20 minutes. I have spoken to tech support and they offer to resend the signal and tell me to tune to Ch 1 and leave it there for 20 minutes.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

It should flip between channels 1, 247 and 0 if your subscription is up, it should not be saying updating. Take you car to acura, you may have a bad XM unit.

I just about started a new topic with the exact same symptoms. I get like 5 or 6 stations. It will only go from one "genre" I think it's called to the next. The problem started 3 days ago. I get the same "updating" info when hitting a preset. I got a 3 year subscription locked at $2.18 a month so I have 2 years left.

I sent another refresh online this morning and it didn't work. I didn't turn the XM on until I got to a big open area in a Home Depot parking lot. I waited 22 minutes before turning the channel dial, but there were no changes made.

Last night, I spoke to XM customer service and they said that someone will call me in 72 hours. I'll listen to what they have to say, but if they suggest another refresh, I may just take it to the dealer. It's weird how the presets continue to say "updating". According to the XM troubleshooting page, the "updating" message means:
XM is updating your XM radio with the latest encryption code. Wait until the update is complete. This message may also display when you are trying to tune to a channel that is unavailable or blocked.
Whatever it needed to do, should have taken place by now.

All is working now.

Never heard back from XM.

This morning, before I leave the house, I sent another refresh. When I turned on XM, I noticed a "loading" message before it started playing Ch 58. However, I was getting 58 previously, so I didn't think anything had changed.

After listening for about five minutes, I hit a different preset (that previously would display "updating" and wouldn't change the channel), and lo and behold the preset worked and all of the channels were available.

Glad it's working now, but I don't know why the other refresh attempts failed.

On my last call to customer service, I was assigned a ticket number, so it could be that something was done by tech support to remedy the situation.
