Why DVD?

Why DVD?
Its wierd to me that people continue to put DVD players in their cars. I mean dont get me wrong i love mobile video(although most people lack the attention span i feel required to drive.) but why dvd? why not add in a media device with video capabilities instead?
you get to take it with you to continue what your watching.
you dont have to change discs to watch something else.
you get added music(if you dont already have aux)
if the device has 3g then you can web surf in your car (there are also devices to turn your car into a wifi hotspot)
not to mention a media device will take a lot less space then a dvd player
what i want to see is a custom 1080p set upmmmmm blu-rayyyyyy

Keep Right Except to Pass
I don't understand putting a DVD player in the dash. Any reasonable person wouldn't even consider attempting to watch it while driving, and in many states it's illegal to have a video source anywhere within the driver's field of vision. (Same goes for mobile Internet and the like.)
I understand that many parents with minivans put DVD players in the back to keep their kids quiet, and while I was long skeptical of the need for that I understand from friends who have children that the ever-more-draconian laws requiring immobilizer seats for kids make it that much harder to get them to behave back there, so perhaps I can see the point of rear-mounted DVD players if you have kids.

my double din radio w/ 7in screen allows me to play DVD's , use a USB stick or Smart media card.
I tend to load movies on the media card instead of shuffling dVD's.
Honestly, I think I just use the dvd player when i burn my music videos. Even then thats a waste since I can copy them to the media card.
But yea, the only functionality I see of having a TV /DVD player in your car would be to keep the kids quiet.
Other than that. It's just a distraction.

DVD player is great for passengers and DVD's are easily found in a hurry. Plus most of them have an AUX input and a simple cord will let you output video though the DVD player via an Ipod video or Smartphone (like Galaxy S, Iphone, etc)

I do the same, passengers benefit more from it than i do. Its nice for when you are parked waiting for someone or something like a TRAIN since Des Plaines is one of the cities with the most railroad crossings in the US.

i have the dom's tvnav2go thing in my car hooked up to a dvd player. i have never used it to watch a dvd but its cool to have and showoff, thats it. since it came with the car when i bought it, i see no reason to remove it.
